i want to bubble my domestic water before using it (like nameless said) AND i want to add my liquid fermentations to the water before giving it to my plants...

first i used a 1500 gph sump, it was old and i left it running and it burnt up and it was SUPER slow on the soaker hose and came out inconsistent - dyr in some spots wet in others... i assumed from not enough pressure
ordered a super el-cheapo that's like 900 gph - also very slow... slower even
so i tried a 2000 gph sump with auto cut off float valve, that one seems like it backs off the pressure when the hose fills, it pumps good pressure but doesnt' push water thru the weeper hose

You really need a pressure pump w/ accumulator to run soaker hoses. It's a different kind of pump like a shallow well pump for a house or cabin-

https://www.waterpumpsdirect.com/FloTec-FP401215H-11-Water-Pump/p72387.html

Sustainable Village sells pricey small pumps, parts & kits for blumats-

https://www.sustainablevillage.com/blumat/pressure

You might hook up the soaker hose to domestic water with a pressure regulator. I use soaker hose in the garden & these help to not overpressure the stuff-

Apply liquid nutrients by hand...

It's definitely worth it to loop the soaker hose or drip tubing. Only way to make the whole line as consistent as possible. Without looping the end of the line will often get the least amount of water, elevation changes make it worse. The first ten feet will always get the most water.
Avi, that pump you have might work if you added a line coming off your looped soaker hose line. might take a four way or multiple Y's or a gated T but if you had a gate/ball valve you could open it into a container until the pump was happy with the flow rate to function. Sounds like it neeeds a minimum flow rate.

As far as the mulch/ irrigation orientation, it seems like there are positives for both ways.
Mostly I like the hose on top of mulch because you can see it working, and it keeps the mulch wet top to bottom decaying it faster it would seem. Water is dispersed through mulch, but it will wick out sideways once it hits the soil anyway, in a teardrop shape.

That being said I leave the mulch on top of the hose mostly because I add straw and plant debris as mulch often enough that it's not high on the list to uncover it. Plus it keeps the drip tubing from expanding from sunshine.

thanks y'all!
jhhn- that hose pressure regulator is so that i don't over power the soakers?

i think we just realized why people use drip lines not soaker hoses, why blumats are so popular....
these soaker hoses are a biiiiitch - feel like i'm going to get them working "perfectly" and they will last one run or less....
200-300 for a pressure pump? yikes

lites are on so i'm about to take this doobie and these hose Y's into the garden and see what i can figure out....

a big reason why i say put hose on top of mulch in the beds is because i noticed when i pull the hay back it drips so slow the water goes straight down into the dirt. it hasnt been wetting the top layer of soil well at all. im sure a lot of this is just because the thing hasnt been dripping good enough... but i top dress so i need the top layer of dirt to be active. thats half the reason i started mulching anyway. ugh. this hose business is irritating. i promise it was working great before my hoses started messing up... i still have the one hose that works perfect... but i need two that work and work the same.

Yes. I didn't know about using them until recently, always had problems with blowouts in the garden from our 85psi water pressure. The soakers work just as well at 25psi, even on long runs. I'm looking for a better system for next year because they're still kind of a pita.

There are gravity fed irrigation systems out there you might want to consider down the road. I have no experience with any of them but a quick Google will show you what's out there. Like this-

so you are using soaker hoses currently on your domestic spigot that comes out at 95 psi and you use a reducer/regulator to hold at 25 psi?
what brand/type of soaker hose are you using?

i cant spend that much on a pump myself, blus its huge and would probably be louder than my fans lol. i just want something to worrrrrkkkk

only a 1/2 hp pump
not that loud
not that big
but yes pricey
im ok with burning a cheapo (50 or less) pump up once or 2x a year IF IT WORKS
same way i might could be ok with buying a NICE pump for 200$ - if it works well for 2 years im spending the same to get the same
that is
if it works

those prefab drip lines are looking better and better, maybe next run

i've been contemplating setting up another 4x4 breeding tent soon - it needs to happen
got a couple males to pick from - this IBL bubba kush is real tempting to dust EVERYTHING with, i'm a big fan of strong dopey bubba's and a pal of mine has a couple clones of his KILLER pre-98 bubba kush cut for me, one of which i would throw into the breeding tent along with a slew of other females.

That's how I use the pressure regulator. It's a cheapo. Pump systems use a better kind that's adjustable. The pump cycles against the accumulator at a higher pressure than what comes out of the regulator for constant delivery & pressure in domestic water systems.

The newest soaker hose is the 3/8" miracle grow stuff from Home Despot. Some of the older stuff is 1/2" or so, basically the same thing.

I thought Avi and nameless both had pressure regulators now, but that was backflow regulators from a few pages back.
Check out Rainbird's website for faucet connection kit. It has a backflow preventer, pressure regulator, and 150 screen filter along with an easy way to hook up both ends of the hose.

It's 20$, pretty basic stuff designed for homeowner setup of irrigation. Really, really, reccomend using a filter, even in soaker hoses, to extend life. Depot and others carry inexpensive filters.

Actually have a dozen or more of the faucet connection kits left over from a customers hose order that were not needed. If Avi or nameless could use one, I'd be happy to send to an address for both of you guys

i don't have a pressure regulator and i also don't have the backflow preventer or the vacuum breaker yet....
i like the sound of that setup, not sure if i will need it, got my female to female hose fitting that will make me able to loop the dripline into a Y return....
i'll let yall know - im either banging my head on the wall or on the verge of making this soaker hose setup work

got my seed packaging all together;

Love that packaging Avi.
What's the initial cost per unit?
I would like something like that for the stuff I give away, if it affordable.

Label from drip line I used this summer.

sweet packs!!!!

laser would it really be necessary to use something like that on a pump? its an 800 gph, i dunno how much pressure that is. will it raise the pressure? i know the filter would be helpful... i really need to keep the top on my rez. i guess a backflow that didnt cause me to lose pressure when pumping would be a slight improvement... but i already poked the hole in my hose.. i dunno. im curious though i did look them up

that dripline stuff seems like the right idea. ive got the new hose coming tomorrow to try, if that dosent work then ill have to try something else

mjp did you use that dripline on a pump or domestic spigot, or wht?

packaging is cheap, probably less than 1$ per including packaging that seals and 2 stickers

nameless, you might not need a pressure regulator, but it might help with making the pump run correctly. I've never had the issues with the pump and hose not working right.

When I've hooked a pump to emitter hose it only has a filter on it, not worried about a backflow or pressure regulator, because it's coming out of a tank that is emptied every time.

Where I'm using it there is 300 ft of hose, so pump is unrestricted. There would probably be a minimum flow on some pump before they shut down. My guess is you and Avi aren't moving enough water tomake the pump work as designed. If you had a second hose to add that might make the pump work.
The pressure regulator will only prevent pressure from going over a set point.

These are the lines I gravity fed.

300ft of this drip line will empty a 500gal tank (3.5-4ft elevated above the ground) over the course of a day & a half to two days.
