then u should definetly make "thais-sticks" (if you havent before) - its fun and not that messy :D i use a sushi rolling mat - and just start off with humid bud, place it out even, and then put a bamboo stick in the midle, roll it tight, and then just wrap it with thin string - after that if u want u can allways give em a dip in BHO etc :D

hang dry in a spot out of direct sunlight, but with airflow.

my tutorial with pics got lost with OG i think.. :(

peace! :D

WOW - thanks to everyone for this thread.
As a newbie grower who was sick of paying big bucks for unknown, seedy weed this is an absolute God send!

I've just grown and cut my 1st Sativa - Nigeria from Amsterdam Seedbank and was TOTALLY blown away by the uplifting, energetic high she produces, far superior to Indica couch-lock IMHO.

I've started to build a Sativa Seed Collection of my own and its humble beginnings are:
Nigeria - Amsterdam Seedbank
Durban Poison - Nirvana Seeds
Haze - Sativa Seedbank via Seedbay
Jock Horror - Nirvana Seeds
Sativa Mexicana - Sativa Seedbank via Seedbay
Travelling Thai - Nirvana Seeds
Tropical Timewarp - Refferman Seeds via Seedbay

I was also eyeing off an auction for Luang Prabang Lao Sativa on Seedbay, but passed until next time around (grow cabinets are expensive to set up!)

What other Strains should I be looking at for that energizing up high?
I grow indoors and have a 250w, 400w & 600w HPS at my disposal as well as a well-ventilated growing area which I supplement with CO2.

Currently, I have Sweet Tooth x 3, Hash Plant x 3 & Nigeria x 2 on the grow, but am already thinking about my next grow...

Any input/recommendations from the Sativa experts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! :jump:

Thank you for sharing those Moon and welcome to the UST  Im glad to see that "new" sativa lovers found this thread and share their goodies!!!

I did just understand the fact, that this thread aint sticky :jawdrop: This thread should be the sticky´s elite if you ask me, with all this great wisdom of sativa strains & hybrids. This is simply my favorite thread among ICmag.

I cannot understand why some new member did give me negative rep. of those Neville buds, just before wrapping them. I jsut cannot understand how it offend somebody... However, maybe he hit it accidentally while giving the rep, dont know.. I dont care so much about the whole reputation, but it´s always nice to see that somebody likes your plants/stories.. I cannot share my hobby too much outside the internet, so I love to show my workings once in a time.

Damn B-carver, I would love see that tutorial and those sticks. If you still do them, please share couple pic´s with us, ok?

You aint the only one BH that is interested about these traditional methods. I think these techniques change the potencyprofile (not all) & flavor & color, so they are very interesting!

Couple of shots for sativa lovers. Sorry about the picture quality. First pic is Panama Red at about 11 weeks, probably about seven left to go.

Next up is Panama Red x (Strawberry Diesel x Doubledog). She is at about five weeks, I think that she'll go about 11-12 weeks.

Dried nug shot of the PR x (SD x DD)

Hi rude and moon, great to see some more sativa lovers joining in, 116 pages and not only still going, getting biger every day in terms of the numbers of folks contributing and reading, maybe it is time to ask dutchgrown if we can have a sativa sub-forum as this thread is getting ridiculously long for new folks to read through. Maybe someone will start a 'best of the UST" thread to compile all the best bits of info and pics?

I'm very interested in Panama Red, been wanting to try that one for a long time, maybe I will pick up a pack of ACE's Panama.

Many thanks for showign that pic of BSH moon, as I have posted before, BSH is an old heirloom Mexican IBL called Zacatecas Purple, the strain was grown by indigenous indian folks high in the Zacatecas mountains apparently and was sadly eradicated in a DEA sponsored programme in the 80s. The BSH is simply ZP grown and acclimated in California for several decades. There is another story that BSH is ZP crossed to an Afghan or Kush indica by a buddhist monk called Perry living in Big Sur in the 60s. Looks like it doesn't have any indica in it from moon's pic though. Can you give any more info on BSH such as height, stretch in flower and flowering time?

havent done any thai-sticks for a long while - not having suitable buds really.. need something not too chunky, so it easier to shape it. best obviously is fluffy sativa buds :D

maybe - just maybe ill do it with the oaxacan i got flowering now.. itd be just to make the pics :D

hm.. its a good idea - im actually saving up a huge amount of trim for a BHO session also.. could be fun for one of the coming weekends after the harvest.

peace :D

Lovely pics moon & Rudedude!

Welcome Baphomet! Glad your head was turned by the nigerian, got some going myself. That Luang Prabang Lao Sativa caught my eye too, but I've just got too much to get to 1st!

@Bone: Thanx! :bandit:

Mad Scientist: Those buds look denser than mine. Which breeder offer it is?

I got the cuttings by mail from a friend of mine who in his turn got them from someone else. They finished after 12 weeks of flowering and I think they're from Female Seeds (dot nl). The buds really were rock-hard, very compact and had huge swollen calyxes. I have been racking my brain over whether this may have been due to the NL or if it was another plant mixed in after all. Thing is this crop totally smelled of Haze and so was it's taste, but at the same time I noticed the heavy smoke expanded in my lungs like a typical indica would. The effects were also mixed, both noticeable in the head and couch-locking as well. Very long-lasting too, so despite the fact that this wasn't the ultimate sativa I still liked it very much and I feel it's a pity the moms were finished and I didn't keep any cuttings either. Should have been a keeper this one...

Here's a shot of the plant in late flower: (200W CFL experiment)

Don't bother about someone giving you bad rep Herbalistic. I was told I should be tought how to grow... There's people who don't really read what you're saying, they just take a swift look at the pics and then have their conclusions at the ready without knowing who you are. You may have done 30-light grows but if you don't post the pics some people may still take you for a kook... As long as you know who you are yourself, don't feel offended by these kind of things, just feel sorry for the person that's posting them.

I'm starting to repeat myself again here, but please know I'm very sincere when I say all of your pics are top-notch! Keep up the good work!

well I have to admit I only smoked the sage a few times but I didn't find it to be all that mexican. I did hear it had zacatecas purple in it but I think it was only one of several sativas and an indica. ( many do flower within 70-80 days so it got indica in it somewhere.) it was pretty good weed though. I know alot of people like it.

I could be wrong though I don't know all that much about the lineage. but I have always heard it was zacatecas, I just never heard it was only zacatecas.

It's not quite gone though. back at the old UST at OG there was a guy from scotland had grew original zacatecas purple, yellow canary, and two or three other basically extinct mexicans and a few other africans or indians or something I don't remember. They were very pretty plants but he didn't post that many pics or talk too much.

he had gotten the seeds from someone floating around the thread but I don't know who. whoever it is has a silent collection of alot of really rare sativas.

---

thanks for the support on the thread guys I'm glad you all like it. It definitely is getting bigger and better. the funny thing is its not even close to being done. I'm just lazy. The original UST had under every region a set of links to threads about strains or grows from that area. I haven't even begun to do that yet. or an afican section, se asia section, or indian section! lol. but with that much work who can blame me. They aren't going to be so big though because I already wrote what I know. I don't know alot about sativas from the other regions so they're going to be pretty short. I grew up around mexican, jamaican, and american weed so I know a decent amount about it.

about a month before OG crashed I started up a UST grow guide. a guide to growing sativas efficiently indoors and out. I'd like to do that here again one day. make it easy for newbs to learn and eliminate some myths for older indoor indica growers.

but all in good time. glad you guys like the thread.

@herbalistic. don't worry about the -k. thats why I turn mine off I take it too personally. lol. Its funny if someone sends me a -k saying "you're an asshole and everyone hates you; blah blah." I really could not give a shit less. But if someone sends me a -k that says something like "you need to capitalize after periods in sentences." that will make steam come out of my ears. lol.

Óla Scientist, I think femaleseeds did cross Neville with Jack Herer..

And about the negrep: I dont bother about that much, I just are amazed what was in that post that offended somebody??? There was some pictures of Neville buds after the chop and info how I did this experiment, so I cannot understand...

However, I dont loose my sleeps for that, if you know what im sayin!

How´s your Ecuadorians btw?

After closer look of those Nev pics of yours I can see similarities in leafshape with Jock Horror, im quite sure there is Jack Herer in the mix + the femaleseeds description!!!

man people are weird. he probably sent you -k because he saw you drying weed in the sun and thought that was a crime against weed. I'll never understand why people are like that.

I used to talk to a guy who grew really airy sativas. as we all know airy sativa can turn into a wildfire in your bowl from being so loose. so he'd press a quarter sack a week (what he was smoking) into a flat denser nug that would burn better in a smaller bowl and people used to rag him out over it.

Hey everyone, just thought I’d share some pics of my Malawi now that she’s fattening up a bit after the last pics I posted.
I just Recently trimmed off some of the lower useless bud sites and she responded really well.
Main Cola:

In her pot, as you can see she's very little:

Ola BH,

It is speculation about the Mexican used, but for sure it is a Indica / Sativa hybrid and was created by perry, according to Danbo, holder of the lines.

It was one of the very first Indica / Sativa hybrids of the 60's

We just finished a accession of the line.

Peace, hhf

Damn Motaco, you really did give me a laugh with

Yeah, I hear you with that one. If people try to beat you down on a cannaforum, because of typing errors, they should ask them selfs why they hang out here. This guy didnt wrote anything, just negrep. I have received negrep two times before and both times there were wroted compliments, so im very sure they did give -K accidentally. Hell, I have been close to do it myself accidentally, when trying to give good K for someone and wrote some message to the person and have noticed right before hitting the button, that the mark is in "I do not approriate with the post", but I have always noticed it before hittin the button..

Yeah, this thread is one of the finest, that´s why it should be at least sticky. You can find lot´s of useful info about different strains & hybrids here, thats why it´s so hard to believe it isnt sticky!!!

How´s the N.O these days, I tryed to ask before, but I think you missed the post.

Just planted one Marijuanamat´s Original Haze x Malawi Gold and one breeders choice NL x pure Haze!!

I heard Perry made the cross in 64, so that is pretty early in terms of n american cannabis breeding. I would think they used very different breeding practices back in those days and he might just have grown a field full of indica alongside a field full of Zacatecas and for the next few years grown out the resulting seed, each year choosing only to plant the seed from the finest dried tops. Selection on that scale is a whole different kettle of fish to the modern methods of taking one male and pollinating a single female.

"Modern methods" means single parents??
Well fuck "modern methods" then I guess, haha

I thought that was bad due to lack of genetic diversity and was considered "closet breeding".

I was under the impression using as many parents as possible was best, but to just select the offspring with the traits you were looking for.

Maybe even taking it a step further by selecting each trait into an individual line then crossing together at the end
