Congratulations! Careful now... Nobody likes a lecturing ex-drinker. I quit and still had a full 30 pack of beer in the fridge. I handed them out to visiting friends until they were gone.

Strange, about the same time as the beer ran out... the friends were also gone.

Day 4 for me. I have stopped cannabis for a that time too. I have been drinking nightly for many years, between 4-7 drinks, mostly beer, some vodka. Not as bad as some, but nevertheless I can feel the harm it's doing. I haven't found it too hard yet but haven't been tested in a social situation.

Good luck. If you are pissed off or scared enough of being drunk, you can overcome the carbions. 4-7 beers just made me more thirsty.

It turns out I drink a lot, even water. No wonder I got so drunk by the end of the day.

NCAAF Conference championship game is my 1 year point. I do not miss beer (or any booze) one iota now. There is homemade wine around the house, and some everclear, but so what? I go to the local beer bar, and drink water.

My weight is not changed (had 15 pandemic pounds come and go), but despite only piddling around the place, I have lost a lot of fat. And this is with about 10 sugar coated snickerdoodle cookies a day.

8 years and going here...I was daydreaming about an ice cold Foster's beer but not going to do it

I can only dream of 8 years,,
5 months 3 days and I nearly cracked yesterday, so so close,
Alcoholism versus willpower, it's a hard fight.
Going through loads of cannabis at moment :)

Mr. Fontazy, I sometimes think about a cold beer too. Delicious, frosty bottle with condensation on the outside, ice crystals inside. Not how much I want booze in my system, but how that frosty cold beer feels in my hand. I ain't breaking, gimme a water.

The nice thing about pot is it's good for you, especially if you aren't coating the inside of your lungs with oils. The terp stripping technique I am using since spring really has made my lungs feel great - clean and open despite working in dust conditions all day this summer and still in fall.

All that water I drink is a mystery. I sweat like a hog in the summer heat and humidity, but now in fall not so much. I am not pissing out nearly as much as I am drinking (12-15 pint bottles a day). I am also losing internal fat in my midsection. That 1/2" layer under the skin may need some exercise.

This is the best I have felt in a very long time.

My backhoe has a radio that only tunes into the local country station. What a bunch of drinking and smoking propaganda country music is.

...hang tough brother and NEVER forget, you don't have to quit for forever
, or even 8 years, you just need to commit to not drinking TODAY! ...one day at a time adds up faster than you think.

...plus, thinking about forever, or 8 years is very dangerous, ANYONE can stop for 1 day but 8 phucking years us just too big a bite to think about, especially for a newcomer.

...life without booze is actual life, life WITH booze is a walking death.

...i put the jug down for good in April of '98 and i'm here to tell you that if you just don't drink today and you go to meetings you will be ok, even if things are shitty, they would be worlds worse if you add booze.

peace, bozo

All that is good, but fuck meetings. ICmag support team is strong.

I have never been to one in my life, but once thought it might be a good way to find horny women who don't hang around bars anymore.

I sometimes listen to country music. Man, what a bunch of drinking propaganda that is. Nashville is probably where all the DUI lawyers are made. Guy has troubles, so he is gonna need to get drunk to make them wash away. Yeah, right.

AA meetings aren't that bad, I've been to a couple over the years. Usually pretty goofy/funny and there's always crazy stories. So glad I don't drink anymore. Marijuana is awesome! :dance013:

...yeah, anyone truly struggling to live without a drink has to become willing to do whatever it takes to not drink, and that includes going to meetings.

...i don't know, maybe you guys are all some kind of polite, gentile tosspot's or some shit but me, i was a phucking drunk and so in the beginning it was a real white knuckle struggle to not drink and so hanging around with other drunks that were also struggling was WAY better than trying to fight my urges alone, every time i did that i ended up drunk.

...rule number 1, you don't drink, no matter what and if you can't do that then get to a phucking meeting!

...before AA, if you were a drunk, you died drunk, today AA provides a pathway to a better life and it has saved millions already.

...i'd be happy to share more about AA and how the program saved my life but i am no crusader, if you don't think AA is for you then you are free to go your own way and if you are one of the lucky few who are able to stay sober without AA then God bless you brother, but if you keep quitting drinking and going for some length of time and then picking up again and this has happened more than a few times then you need to humble yourself and get to a meeting and find someone to help you!

peace, bozo

btw, back in the day i was a beer pig so when i was flush i drank 3 cases of Beck's a day and when i was broke i drank a 5th to a 5th and a half of Seagrams, or some off brand vodka, at the end i was panhandling to get enough cash for a gallon of fruit punch and a 5th of Everclear, and that was a daily excercise for more than a decade so i know a little bit about being a drunk, and i know a little bit about being sober too.

Anyone worried about liver damage, milk thistle really works. I was drinking 8 to 15 ice beers a night, every night, and doctor said my liver number were 50% over maximum normal numbers. Quit drinking for a month and took them everyday, and numbers were back in normal range. Doctor was shocked.

Being a regular toker also helps mitigate the damage to your liver...

Abstract

Background

Abusive alcohol use has well?established health risks including causing liver disease (ALD) characterized by alcoholic steatosis (AS), steatohepatitis (AH), fibrosis, cirrhosis (AC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Strikingly, a significant number of individuals who abuse alcohol also use Cannabis, which has seen increased legalization globally. While cannabis has demonstrated anti?inflammatory properties, its combined use with alcohol and the development of liver disease remain unclear.
Aim

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of cannabis use on the incidence of liver disease in individuals who abuse alcohol.
Methods

We analysed the 2014 Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project?Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) discharge records of patients 18 years and older, who had a past or current history of abusive alcohol use (n = 319 514). Using the International Classification of Disease, Ninth Edition codes, we studied the four distinct phases of progressive ALD with respect to three cannabis exposure groups: non?cannabis users (90.39%), non?dependent cannabis users (8.26%) and dependent cannabis users (1.36%). We accounted for the complex survey sampling methodology and estimated the adjusted odds ratio (AOR) for developing AS, AH, AC and HCC with respect to cannabis use (SAS 9.4).
Results

Our study revealed that among alcohol users, individuals who additionally use cannabis (dependent and non?dependent cannabis use) showed significantly lower odds of developing AS, AH, AC and HCC (AOR: 0.55 [0.48?0.64], 0.57 [0.53?0.61], 0.45 [0.43?0.48] and 0.62 [0.51?0.76]). Furthermore, dependent users had significantly lower odds than non?dependent users for developing liver disease.
Conclusions

Our findings suggest that cannabis use is associated with a reduced incidence of liver disease in alcoholics.
