Home Depot carries a 2.2 cuft compressed bale of ProMix HP for $25...I get my BX at OC Farm--3.8 cuft compressed bale for $34. Yep, days of $22 were nice--but gone forever.

The True Value store where I buy it charges $27 for a 3.8 cu. ft. bale.

Grow stores in my area charge as much as $50.

It's readily available in my area. Not sure what the grow stores are thinking.

Would hate to pay the shipping on a bale of Pro Mix.

Was really excited to find 50L bags of B'Cuzz coco at PLHydro for $19 ea.

Then I was slapped in the face with shipping charges!

Shipping was $25 for 1 bag $61 for 3 bags. Really raises the price per bag..

I'll stick to Pro Mix for now.

Promix is awesome I have been using the bx for many years without any issues and I love it. Lately I have been expirementing with mixing it 50/50 coco blocks and promix. So far the mix is awesome I don't have to ph anything like a straight coco grow and my plants grow awesome.

LOL...I hear you about shipping--but sometimes you gotta go for it. The price for 50# bag of Sea90 (sea minerals) is just under $50...shipping is $40, LOL. So I rationalize it by saying, "I pay less than $2 a pound" for a very unique amendment that I can not get locally.

Like mentioned above this is not soil but is a great base for making your own soil or going the soiless route. Its light and fluffy and not as heavy as some of the traditional potting soils you see being used. I would suggest adding additional dolomite lime around 1/2-1 cup per cubic foot. I have noticed in the past the ph is lower then what we want for our plants. This is a common medium in large scale nurseries, etc. and those plants Ph needs are different and often times lower then what we want. I have done runoff tests of fresh promix and found the ph to be under 6 from the start.

Good luck up there buddy, stay warm!!

I grew in perlite then perlite/vermiculite for a long time, until perlite became expensive and only sold in little bags, so I've grown exclusively in promix for the last few years. If perlite was cheaper I'd go back to that with vermiculite. Promix isn't really any better for me except for disposal in my yard, and it attracts fungus gnats if you reuse it much.

I came to my own conclusion that the much more expensive BX wasn't worth it, and that both it and the regular needs at least 10% extra perlite, and extra calcium carbonate if you don't water with hard alkaline tap water - which GH recommends also. Other growers here also find that it's too soggy and recommend more perlite. Especially, if you're growing in a larger container, and your plants aren't sucking up tons of water.

If you live near Anchorage, there are multiple hydro shops around. Alaska Mill and Feed has a good quality worm casting, and you can get your bales of pro-mix too. If you are in the valley, hydro shops shouldn't be too hard to find. Where are you near?
Good luck!

Been using pro mix for years. No you won't find it on google Eclipse great job! This is probably 1 on the best threads I've read on here, excellent collaboration of experience & knowledge with the original posters best interest in mind. Bravo guys Bravo

I do have a question though..
I don't know how to spell mycorrazhia...
But I read somewhere that if you do not use Organic nutrients.. that the others will kill the Mycorrazhia...
I am running Canna A and B...and a few other nutrients.. as far as I know these are NOT organic.. so am I ruining my promix? Thanks for anyone who knows anything for sure about this question.

I use promix bx also. I only use it for a seed starter mix for the first couple weeks with sum added vermiculite, coco coir & worm castings.. I then repot into a more heavier mix of peat, coco, perlite, vermiculite & hydroton.. Its works for me. Ive noticed sum ppl say that they dnt have to add any perlite or vermiculite, maybe its different strokes for different folks bkuz the promix bx i usually have seems to lil to none of it in there.. So i give it a jump

As far as mychorrizae, organic is the way. I have read that synthetics dont actually kill all the microbes of living soil and that u can actually use both carefully and receive good results but i havent tested it. I do kno synthetic will decrease soil microbes bkuz of the salts . Unless ur tryin to conduct an experiment for sum sure results, i suggest u go fully organic or fully synthetic.. Jus my 2cents. Im not an expert so hopefully some will give a better answer me. Thats a question for @microbeman

No, you are not ruining your pro-mix.

I feed GH Flora with Cal-Mag and Floralicious plus, in Pro Mix.

I would not call these DSD plants ruined in any way.
