Presh filter for 4x4x6 tent.. stinkiest $hit

I've run a Can 33 and a Phresh 6"x16" in a similar space with no odor issues whatsoever.

And it's true you can never go overkill on your filter, just what I could afford at the time, and they worked out great.

Theres no need to go overkill. Seriously you waste money. My ex ran a can 150 in a 1 square meter bathroom grow. It was retarded. All she was doing was filling it with dust it was a complete waste of money.

Rather than mindlessly going overkill people should read the filter amd fan directions it tells you what size space they are for. Overkill is for people who like throwing money away, bigger filters dont last longer, they just collect dust and are toast in the same time as the proper size filter. Get the proper size filter for the cubic feet you are using. Overkill with feeding is bad right? Overkill with light is bad right? Overkill is overkill and its usually bad either in loss of efficiency, or waste of money, detriment to plants, man it dosent make sense.

Sorry i disagree with you and everyone else recommending the op goes the overkill route. Op its up to you what you do but its very simple to figure out what size fan and filter you will need. Its your money, if you feel like burning some go ahead but id rather see you have the extra bucks to sink into plant food or bulbs. Man the hobby is not cheap, be wise with your dough. Im not saying be a cheap ass, cause im not i just dropped almost 5 grand on a 4 square meter grow setup still in boxes, my tent grow nd my veg tent. I buy nice stuff but never do i do overkill. I give my plants what they need, not a overabundance. I see folks pouring in 2.0+ ec (1000 ppm) and i cant help but laugh. I work between 0.8 and 1.5 with great results. Ive never gone over 1.5 ec, no need. Too me thats heavy feeding. Its up to you how you grow but i dont see any justification for overkill. A couple of my buddies are overkill growers. Im not big on the weed they grow. They swear by their method... Its just not for me. They cant flush their stuff to save their lives yet mine is almost as clean as my organic stuff when i was doing that.

^^ great post !

my biggest sensi star is starting to stink and is 3 weeks old, Iam getting closer to the deadline to get all this gear.

Cocosativas, for a smaller tent, lets say 3x3x5, what CFM filter would you recommend?

I would still use my setup, my can 33, sp 4 inch (its at 137 cfm) or similar. On a 2x2 i keep the same fan and opt for a smaller filter. If i went to a 5x5 id keep my can 33 and put a 6" flange and attach my max fan too it, and check the settings and probably put it to max what the filters rated for, 200 cfm.

Let me tell you about my adventures in overkill. I used to use a 1k to cover a 4x4. Guess what i got light burns and got a worse yield using a cheap mag ballast and sylvannia bulb. Now i light a 4x4 with 600s, i power hortilux bulbs with gavita digistars. Guess what i get a better yield with, my buds are healthier and no light burns. Temps are easier to control. Overkill is a waste o power, money, food and time. Also being a cheap ass cost me money, cause cheap shit sucks, and i had to buy good stuff in the end for the proformance i needed. Buy te right stuff you need, and make sure you get good value. Theres no sense buying stuff just because its expensive, do research and get exactly what fits your space, your individual needs.

Heres a atory about can 50s. I had my basement full of some skunk big bud crosses (ghsc superbud) and some other stuff that really stunk. This was back in my indica days, i used 1 can 50 and a 6" vortex and thats all i used in a whole basement. I never smelled dope upstairs, and that filter was half the size recommended for the room.

Something id like to note is, i grow pleasent smelling sativas. Some smell so woody and spicy you can get away with way underrated filters. Ive seen guys use the tiny can filters (i think its called can 9000 lol they are cute almost how small they are and run with a axial fan) when keeping things totally sativa dom. Mine are too smelly to go way underkill but theres stuff out there people dont even recognize as the smell of weed. I grew a blueberry haze cross once that i could have skipped filters with those because they were so exotic. Didnt though because i had a filter. Its better safe than sorry but overkill isint that mentality its just waste. Im a contractor, i dont put 30 nails wher 3 or 4 will do.

Im not at all advocating not using filters, just that honestly my belief is in the opposite to overkill, and sometimes if you are lucky you can sneak by without even needing a filter. 99% of the time you need them, and its always safer to choose one, but theres no need blowing hundreds of dollars more than you need. My exes can 150 and 8 inch vortex was 600 for the combo. I paid 250 for mine, was the overkill worth it? That filter is as big as she is she needs a dolly to move it. I could afford another ballast, bulb and shade for the extra money shes wasting, plus some ducting if i chose a ac hood, or i could buy a quarter oz off my buddy if i didnt want ducting. Lol and i buy the most expensive bulb and ballast combo available in 600 watt, imagine if i was a cheapo what 400 dollars could go to, at least 2 light systems, more if i bought used mag ballasts... Some cats throw their whole grow together for less than that 400. Look at pipedreams 150 watt dwc, its a sticky in the hydro section. Im not saying be that cheap, but im saying dont waste money theres so much you can do with it. I have lots of money, and can afford to blow alot and id be fine. I choose not to so i can get more stuff i actually need, save for upgrades like plasma or led lights to play with...

Honestly Erliqin, the best thing to do with filters is take a pen and paper, figure out your cubic feet in various tents and spaces you are likely to grow in, then check can filter and phresh filters site, find out what they recommend for sizes. If you believe me mine works (which it must i dont smell anything in the room the tents in and i grow in a appartment building i wouldnt be typing right now to you if it wasnt working) you can stick to that setup or similar in 3x3s, 4x4s, and if you go bigger or smaller just change the fan or filter.

Yeah if you are at week 3 get on that filter. Right away as you mentioned the ss stinks...

Im a pretty outspoken critic of overkill. Its been proven time and time again overkill in any capacity is at the very least a waste. Theres so many unseen problems like i say my ex dollies around the damn filter, you are inviting endless hassles. I only speak up because i care and if people dont lots of times they are mislead by others haphazard advice. Lol my favorite example of overkill detriment is overfeeding. We all know pouring in too much hydro food causes burn yet people still keep pouring in insane ec levels that make me cringe. Im talking to one guy here who works with a 2.0+ ec, but hes been adding things slowly for 10 years from the looks of things and hes careful. He also is feeding some high demand indys and flushes for a lot longer than i do. Ive seen his pics the plabts look happy.

Hvac is confusing, feel free to ask away but stuff about cfm and specifications you need to look up, so you learn for future. Ill keep watching though, oh and you have pms soon. You can message me, or visitor message and ill get back to you

Oh I wasn't saying to go overkill, just stating that a bigger filter isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's a waste of money, that's all.

Good post. :tiphat:

A bigger filter, within reason, is not a waste of money because it will last longer. I'm talking about calculating what you need and going one size up. With same cfm fan on larger filter, filter will have a longer life and help with really stinky strains. Good luck. -granger

can 33 gotta be exelent filters, definetly a conoseur's choice over here.
now debating if can or presh lol this never ends.
Cocosativas, I have a question maybe offtopic but, what nice sativa would you recommend, as a grower of great sativas? thx 4 all the info ! Iam almost done getting the things.

Bigger filters have the same service duration as a small one. They recommend the same service term on the Side of the box. Bigger dosent last longer just because you pump out less stink. Man filter size depends on how much air you are exhausting, and that depends on the size of the room. Why put a can 150 in a 1 square meter grow? It wont last longer than my can 33, and both will effectivly remove the odour except the can 150 is a waste of money and huge to hang and move around. Then theres always the issue of size and weight in tents. Notice how much space my can 33 takes up? A the can 50 wont fit and b its to heavy i dont own a gorilla tent. Can 50 is the next size up from can 33. Oh nd for those who say mount it outside well thats not how those filters are designed to work. You draw air through the filter with a fan and exhaust it. Doing it the other way is not how they are intended to work so no point arguing that.

Stick to the proper size filters. Unless you want to pay to fill them with dust in which case buy overkill and collect dust its up to you. Yeah the can 150 cuts the smell but requires a big expensive and loud fan that draws more power. Even the ducting is more expensive. Its alot of work to hang. Same thing with the can 50, why would i use this in my tent? Neither are suited to the task, due to size, cfm and lots of issues. My priority is being steath and keeping it quiet in my home. Also i dont see value in overkill. But i know the fact just because its got more carbo dosent mean it lasts longer, it means it has more space to trap dust. Go buy a hepa instead...

Can filters are excellent. So are phresh filters, they are made in Australia and i like aussie stuff. Adjust a wings are the coolest reflector going if you can use open hoods. But if you are interested in those ask and ill explain that obsession. I own a bunch of parabolics but plan on grabbing some adjust a wings later for my 4 square thats still in boxes.

Anyway can 33 s are perfect in a 4x4 its a good size and weight. Like i say its a vestitile filter good for lots of tent sizes. Also they take 4 or 6 inch fans depending on your needs. As you can see im not the only one using one in my size tent. The guys at the shop recommend that one too, they sell shiploads of that combo. Oh and you can buy a max fan thats quiet too, i just got the s&p cause its cheaper, quieter and meets my needs for cfm. I like can filters they are very goos quality.

Oh and its pricey buy i buy the insulated ducting called can duct. Why buy cheap duct the heat disapates through your duct, it defeats the point of trying to move the air.

Ah, you did ask the right guy about sativas. Right now im running super lemon haze thats a easy choice. Same with kali mist. I like dutch hazes. Those are both pretty easy to grow, yield well and grow and smoke great. Slh is pretty interesting, lots of great phenos. Ive seen most of them, my current one is a resin mosnter, beautiful buds, awesome sweet lemon baking smell. Very potent high. Greenhouse sells tons of great sativas, reeferman, holy smokes too.

What are you looking for in a sativa? Like do you have a max flower time or height or are you looking to just try something new? Are you looking for potent, mild, trippy, psychedelic. Creative? Lol mandala satori is great but not for beginner sativa fiends. Can be scary stuff. Lots of sativas can be if you do a goos job.

Oh and jack herrer. Thats good weed. So many good sativas. You tell me what you are looking for and ill think what i recomend to you.

Oh and i grow in coco, Erliqin what method you plan in your tent? Sativas love hydro, and really dig coco coir. Thats why im CoCoSativas i grow sativas i coco. If you are into the idea of coco maybe we can chat about that too...

Nice Coco! Don't know bout him, but I too grow in coco. My cut of Connoisseur Genetics SSSDH sativa lady is one to look into for sure. Let's talk sometime

And a Can 33 is the way to go in a 4 x 4 x 6.5 tent. They are a little pricey, but worth it. I never hung mine at first, but kept running out of room in the tent-and I my buddy hung his-so that's what I did a couple years ago

CocoSativas,
OK, so your ex-girlfriend used a Can 150 in a bathroom, but that doesn't mean you need to go OCD on the rest of us about "overkill." You should re-read my post. I haven't been talking about Can Filters. I have never used them. I've been talking about Phresh. Nobody's trying to get you to use a Can 150 in a 1 sq meter grow. Jeeze. Or anything else for that matter.

And the side of the box don't mean shit. It's just a guestimate. The filter's life is determined by how much dust gets sucked into it. Your grow set up is not the only configuration there is. In my lung room, I'm using a 6" Vortex for one of my filters to scrub room air. I could put it on top of a Phresh 6x16 [400 cfm] or a 6x24 [530 cfm]. Either will do the job, and either will fit in most tents, but the 6x24 will do it for longer [$19 more for 25-30% more carbon]. More carbon, same amount of dust, etc. being sucked in, =longer life. And it'll do a better job in peak stank times, like with really smelly strains. And BTW, removing dust, mold spores, etc. from your room air is a good thing. Just relax. -granger

yes chat would be nice, where can we have a chat?

I want a sativa because I grow mostly medicinal indicas, those fast frosty coated.

Just germinated 2 Jacky White's and a Wappa, to grow along the sensi stars.

I grow in a mix of lots of perlite and an organic soil that I buy locally. It has lots of nutrients and is light, so I can just mix it with perlite for a lightweight mix that won't hold moisture and let roots get lots of oxigen. I dunno if is the best but works with great yields and great flavour.

I use BioCanna Vega, Flores, and Boost.

This last one will make the plants stink for real.

I like creative sativas, the ones that will make you explore and do things at open air, at nature. thats the most I luv, anyway any skunk will make you happy at open nature :)

Its been a cold winter over here in the southen hemisphere, over here you can grow all year under the sun, but now its been cold and cloudy, the plants aren't that fast but they are ok.

I think I will get the can 33 because of better price, but dunno wich fan, because the max CFM is 200.
6" fans do like 150 CFM with the fan controller right?

what combo would you recommend me to get from Growershouse.com?

fan, ducting, accesories like clamps?

Some people grow in straight coco and get great results. Others grow in coco/perlite and get great results.

Another really good sativa that's creative, energetic, but not speedy is Barney's Farm Acapulco Gold, 11-12 weeks. It's a fan favorite in my circle. I call it something else because it's an attempt to duplicate AG from the '70s, but AG has long since been hybridized into oblivion. Another is CH9 Jack. Big yields, 8 weeks. Good luck. -granger

Could you explain what you mean by a large filter collects more dust than a small one?

I agree with you here but see this as an advantage. This means I have to clean my prefilter less, which means I keep my fan running more efficiently(less pressure drop).

My setup is very stealth, I attribute this to my oversized filter. It lets me run my fan at a lower speed due to a reduced pressure drop across the filter.

Could you explain why you believe that a carbon filter will have the same service life regardless of cfm/time?

Larger filter, more surface area, which means more molecules of gas being adsorbed.

There are some disadvantages to a large filter, for me it's the amount of space it takes up but otherwise I only see advantages.

What im saying is if you buy a oversize filter you are just paying to fill it with dust. Its a waste of money.

You argue more surface are to collect the smell. Whats the point when there isint more smeell, a can 33 worth of the carbon caught the smell now the rest of the thing is sucking air pointlessly drawing in dust. You are paying more money for nothing, strait up. Besides like i say you dont have room in tents for overkill.

No matter how you spin it overkill is not to the ops benefit. Folks are encouraging him to waste his money and space. If thats what people want to do go ahead bur are you really coming i ajead putting a can 150 in a space i put a can 33? Tomorrow morning ill post the specs about those two and tell me which you would choosw for our size class of tent.

.

Read the side of the box. They all have the same service duration from cn filter... Dosent really require much explanation, i just read boxes, directions, cfm recommendations.

Ok. But that service life is based on the 'recommended' cfm. If you put less cfm through the filter, it will last longer.
