Its OK to have plants out in Northern California now, if you are ready to harvest in May.

That's what I was thinking BackCountry, depending on when they were put out though. Remember the harvest moved up the coast last fall, it does that backwards in the Spring. I'm at 12 hours light already but wouldn't risk putting long season plants out yet. The re-vege is no problem but the way they are stunted by that action SUCKS! It's more productive to keep things under lights untill Mid May in my case probably Early May in Spaceman's case. Or at least lights at night, and sun during the day.

SpacemanSpliff, It's good to have goals but a pound to a pound and a half per plant takes some work. Good luck Bro! Make sure you dig Large holes and ammend properly.

Peace, SSSSpaceman SSSpliff

they FINALLY unlocked registration... jeeeesus. It's been locked since all of that hullabaloo. . . I had to delete my primary account, and I can't get ahold of mods to unlock the name yet, so this will be my new handle over here on icmag. well well, here's whats happenin over here...

The Great Outdoors... can't wait to get my 3rd season underway, I have already 13 sprouted seedlings at 3 weeks flouro, and another 15 ripe mother plants to take cuts from for a great selection. But I am planning on sticking with my seedlings, which are very special this year...

I recently traveled to a small pueblo (boat access only) south of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with my good friends. There we met some local growers who were kind enough to share their herb with us at no cost. Within the ounce we smoked through, I meticulously pulled out 150+ seeds from at least 2 different local strains of exquistie mexican marijuana.

The seeds were labeled and seperated by me on site, in my meticulous and festidious ways. The seed from the Bueno (AAA) was germinated when I returned. The Yelapa B Bueno as I will call it, was some of the most psychedelic marijuana I have ever smoked in my life... the first joint of this herb brought me and my friend to a hazey soaring plane, of extreme psychedelic qualities.... similar to a 1-2gram dose of mushrooms accompanied by a strange aura. We wandered in the moonlight for hours, laughed our asses off, and enjoyed the hell out of the evening! I will be focusing all my efforts on briniging this Landrace from Yelapa into a high quality cultivar that will remian with my friends and I...

Excellent to see many of us made it over here, backcountry, spaceman, woooo!!
Can't wait to see how people's season develops!

And for the record, no one in california is putting out plants right now, unless they are newbies. . . harvesting in may is a terrible loss of quality, and quanity.. Anyone who knows what they are doing will put out well vegged clones as early as april 20, continuing throughout may...

NOruas Nice to see you Brother! Glad things are going well. Sounds like a dream vacation, with the Happy Ending :) even.

Nothing wrong with a Spring Harvest as long as you know that's what is going to come of putting plants out this early. Only to follow them up with your regular season plants. And if your plants do flower and re-vege be sure to pull every single calyx off because when the plant flowers again those calyxs will rot and being closest to the stalk end up causing your new buds to rot from the inside out.

Peace, SSSSpaceman SSSpliff

The harvest will be a normal one, not a spring one. I've done it before, so I'm not worried about them flowering early. It's always worked out before. I'm not the only person I know that plants this early, and none of us have had problems. Hell, my dad's been doing it for 20 years now. Remember, they're seeds, not clones. I don't have the energy needed to run a growroom (solar).

And you're right, Spaceman, last year when I used clones, I planted May 1. They were just about the same size as my seed starts were at that point. I know 1.5 lbs isn't easy, but that was my average last year with the same soil and containers, so I figure that's realistic. This isn't a guerilla grow, so that makes it easier...

Yeah, you are right SpacemanSpliff. I remember one year I started seeds in a greenhouse in early March, and the plants kept on going to the normal harvest date.
The next year I used clones and put them out in early April, I had a horrible year, most of the plants mutated and they just couldn't pull out of it. Sorry, my bad :pointlaug

I solved the problem using clones by keeping my mother plants and clones on a 15/9 routine, to match the light cycle in late April/early May. Thats about as short a on cycle as I feel comfortable with.

Hey Neptune/Noruas! The outdoor forums are begining to feel more like home now.

I am eagerly awaiting some plot shots!!
Won't be long now...

Good to see you all, it's been months :)
I don't want to discourage anyone from working an early harvest, or even plating early and aiming for a normal october harvest... if you know what you are doing, go on ahead! I am merely saying that my own march planting from clone (24/0 light) ended up getting roughly 4-6 weeks flowering in before reveging, leaving me with about 2 ounces per plant of early harvest buds that lacked potency and flavor.. not to mention yields. The plants never fully reveged properly, and had to be abandonded..

Does anyone have experience with pure sativas from seed here? Should I induce flowering now to sex them, and then take clones of females? what would you do with some crazy mexican sativa seedlings on their 4th set of true leaves in 12oz kegger cups?

soon i will have to repot!

PS... why are there two spaceman spliffs????? ????

Neptune-I'd take several clones off of each, wait until they are rooted(or not if you are confident they will root), and then force flower the original plants. Use the clones from the females for your summer crop. Thats basicly what I do for my outdoor.

Here are the only seeds I will be starting this year, on the left are some seeds 3town got in California, supposed to be good, but strain unknown. On the right, C99. I am planting these only to produce seed, any smokables produced will only be a bonus. The plots will be selected only for security, the lighting may be poor, but all I need is a few dozen seeds each or so.

Here are the clones I have taken so far for this summers outdoor, I will need a few more yet.

I have changed the lid on my cloner, and have switched from 1/2" tubes, to 1/4" tubes. The old one had gotten kinda beat up and dirty, and now I can fit alot more clones in it.

Backcountry,

do you have any problems getting clones in and out of the 1/4" holes? My cloner is the same design, but I use 1/2" vinyl tubng.. the clones do like to fall in pretty far, until their first set of leaves catches them..but my lid is big enough, i can hold 110 cuts.

Also, what kind of solution do you run in the cloner? I had only 1 run with mine, but it was a mostly failed run. Plain tap water? Distilled water? Any PH down? any tricks?

Hey all. Ive been browsing for a while here after finally finding a new home. Havent been aloud to post until now though. I'm from southern B.C, and this will be my second grow.
Last season I started from clones, but thsi year I decided to go seeds and I picked up 10 outdoor mix from Sensi seeds, which came with 10 free.... I forget the strain. My buddy also provided me with a bunch of seeds he had laying around, so I'll have quite a variety if everything works out this year. Still not confident on the best way to germinate these though. Ive heard pros and cons, and im still undecided between paper towel, shot glasses, straight into soil, straight into peat pods. It sounds like I'll probably be going from shot glass straight into small cups of soil.
Ill be growing some straight in the ground, some in pots on the ground, a couple ni the top of stumps and I hope to give Backcountrys idea with the milk cartons a try this year, but probably with a pulley system to lower them and water.
Cant wait to see all the babys starting up down south.
Happy growing, Jason

Neptune-My clones are usually pretty small, about 1"-1.5" long, and I don't wait for too much root to show before I transplant them. So the 1/4" tubes should be OK for me I guess. Has your cloner been working for you?

Jasonk-Many people have asked me why I don't make it easier and use pulleys? The problem for me is this means tying off the end of the rope somewhere lower on the tree, where peole can walk by and see it. This is why I went to the trouble with the rings and hooks, so I can keep it all high in the tree, out of site hopefully.

Maybe you have a safer location to do this than I do, I'm forced to grow on Public land usually.

I use paper towels to germinate, I keep the towel sopping wet in a bowl, and in a warm place.

Well hello Northwest.. back again, glad to see the locals are accumulating a bit! Welcome back to the parts Neptune [Naruas], glad to have your wisdom around. And welcome aboard Jasonk, glad you've joined us. Hope you get comfortable and stay a while.

BACKCOUNTRY: WOW thats a load you have ready for the season! So what exaaactly are you planning on doing with ALL those beans and clones? Haha..

I think that I am going to start germinating my beans for BOTH my outdoor opp. and my next indoor grow tonight. I have a huuuge collection to pick from, dunno exactly which beans will go to which yet..Ganna just start a bunch I think and go from there! I'll update later with all the selections.. I have Godbud, Stargazer [Sensi Star x Some unknown potent strain], Heavenly Diesel [Dieselgum X Diesel], Rooi B., PNG [Pure Sativa], Neville's Haze and a bunch of dank bag seed [dank bag seed..]. I have some thinking to do - but definately will consider any insight from you guys especially if you have any experience, or know about how these strains do outside LEMME KNOW!

Anyway, here's an update on my indoor care if anyone cares..

Sweetlight:

POS #2 [The DANK pheno..]:

My Special Bean:

The Bag Seed:

And last but certainly not least.. mah Bubblegum:

Thanks for lookin, any questions or comments are much appreciated.. again, this is my first fully independent, start to finish, indoor grow, and I'm stoked on how it's turned out. My next run should be epic compared to this though.. I can't waiiit to get those seeds popped! Take it easy PNW!

I've got a comment, how about using thumbnails? It took my dial-up(the only internet available here) nearly 10 minutes to load this page, LOL! And it still timed out and didn't load the last few, your buds must have too many crystals ;)
They are very nice though!

I use way more C99 seeds than I have to cuz I have hundreds in storage, after 4 years I need to make a fresh supply.

Mmm... been waiting to do a c99 run, but I have been working with clones since last year... quite happy with my White widow, The Hog, AK47, Sensi Star cuts! Also added one from seed, Reeferman's Airborng13xBurmese -- my pheno is a g13 pheno, it kicks major ass :)

I am rotating out everything except The Hog, nothing really stands up to it right now, so I will have some room to germinate my seed stock.. thinking c99(GN f2 03) or bogglegum, maybe LUI.. hmmm!!!! I bought a lot of seeds when they were actually affordable on seedbay uctions, I scopped up most of my packs for around 30 bucks, auctions that didn't get bids, or only had 1 bid which I was able to win at the last 5 minutes... lui for 35, bog strains for 30, c99 for 30... lots of good wins. :)

Hello all,

I had a question that has come up in my endless research into the growing the budz.

I use a pre-mixed organic potting soil that has amoung other things composted forest products" which translate into redwood mulch.

I have read that some feel that redwood mulch is not conducive to growing good buds.

Now, who else would have any thoughts on this except those that grow in or near the redwoods (N.cal/S.OR and maybe into Washington I don't know).

Does redwood humus hinder MJ growth?

Your ideas please.

PS: the soil is Kellogg's patio plus
