PNW Growers- Redux

BackCountry, Yep I am totally excited to begin working forward on a new greenhouse. I kind of lost motivation for a while, got a little side tracked with other ventures. Breaking ground was a HUGE step, now that I have invested time and back pain I better finish or it was all for nothing. Lot's of work to do and lot's of expences are expected but if I take them one step at a time then it should eventually all come together. First step is to clear the space and dig a 13' circle down about 6" and line with landscaping cloth and fill with sand. Of course I will have to dig the pond first before lineing and filling. Heating will come later. Then I can buy and cut my 2 X 4's and hubs. After the 2 X 4's are cut I will coat them in fiberglass resin to protect and strengthen the wood. From watching Me2 build his Cannadome, assembly seems to be the easy part, which will be the next step. After that comes the glass and framing it in, I'm thinking of hinging each peice so all windows could be opened for ventelation. I would also like to line each hub with a reflective material so they can be used like those light tubes used in place of skylights.

Peace, SSSSpaceman SSSpliff

Hey PNW! Nice developements to all, hopeing for a good season to all my pals!
Backcountry, very curious to see how your outdoor reservoirs work out for you this year, very interesting...!! I am heavily considering laying out some 55 gallon drums in the bushes this year. We have had a record rain year in california, I wish I had been on the ball with that!

Spaceman, you live in the good part of the state up there, I'd be stoked to have that kind of winderness available to me. I have to go with the urban guerilla style, it's a pain!! My outdoor caring capacity is about 4 plants. 2 trips per week, each trip i can carry 2.5 gallons... 4 plants means 1.3 gallons per plant per week, what a pain!!!

So here is this year's selection, These are all the famed Yelapan Sativas from mexico, probably some lowland Oaxaca or Acupulco Gold hybrids or landraces, but I will never really know. All I know is the smoke in mexico was some of the best I've had! I salaved 100 seeds from that trip, and these are the 13 out of 15 that sprouted. Excellent germination rates, if I do say so!

Ladies and Gentlemen in this mix, sexing as soon as I can take clones. Some of them are ready to sex already, but I will wait until they are all clonable before I put the moms into flower. 240w of shoplight flourescent tubes up to this point... they have all been "pinched" (topped) about 3 days ago, to help produce more shoots for cloning.

Going to be exciting :woohoo:

I finally got my first 4 holes dug at my 2nd Auto-grow plot, I need to also get out and get a 8 more dug at my other 2 Auto-grows.

I put 2 gallons of Llama shit in each hole, along with Water crystals, Kelp meal, Earthworm castings, and Azomite(insted of Dolomite). The PH of the native soil is approx. 6.0, and very loose well draining type of soil you find in the hills here. The valleys here have a heavy clay texture to them, like in my vegtable garden, LOL! So I am pretty happy with it, should be some nice plants!

I have also started many seeds, and am planting them in bulk. I plan to pack a dozen or two in my pack(bare root like Haxixie), along with some Dolomite and some time release nutes(forgive me). I'm going to hike into several isolated mountain valleys in my area, find good spots with obvious year round moisture, plant them, mark the spot with my GPS. I'll return when blooming starts to pull the males, and see if they are even alive, heheh. Just for the fun of it I guess. If I like this style of growing, I may switch to that in the future.

Howdy peeps

Hey Spaceman you building a GREENHOUSE :woohoo:

Whats this about a pond are you going to be doing an aquaculture grow?
I certainly will enjoy any pics you post on the construction of your dome.

Still have mine and use it year round. Here is a pic of the greenhouse and a Romulan that was vegged inside and flowered in the greenhouse for 9 weeks. It did really well with only winter sunshine and a double layer of 6 mill plastic for the GH.

Happy building bro

I love spring

Hey all. My beans are all currently soaking wating to be planted as soon as I get home. Im jsut experimenting so I'm doing some in distilled water, some in paper towels and some straight into soil just to see the diferences personally. I have 10 seeds of outdoor mix, 10 freebies which I can never remember the name, maybe Romulan? and a bunch of Bag seed I got from a buddy. They'll be going outside today in south western Canada, I got a couple quick questions. Is it a good idea to put saran wrap over top of the cups to make a greenhouse temporarily? How much gap between soil and cover shoul I make?

And another question, How far along will I be able to tell sex for my plants? Is there any way outdoors to to trick the plant to show sex earlier?

Thanks all, Jason

i got my first outdoor grow a going, im no expert at outdoor growing but im guessing once the plant is mature it'll start to show sex. there would be no way of forcing flower outdoors since your pretty much at mother natures mercy

Hey guys! Welcome to the PacNW thread!

jasonk-If you are starting them straight out this early then I would say yes use what ever you can to keep them warm.
Or better yet, start them indoors for 2-4 weeks, or maybe wit until it is warmer to start them straight out.

The only ways to trick your plants into showing sex involves covering and uncovering a test branch every day(witha foil bag for example, to shorten day length) until a sex organ pops up. If you are growing anywhere but your backyard, this is going to be a pain in the ass.

Of course, most strains will show good pre-flowers at maturity, especially positive ones for most of the females usually. Males can be a bitch to ID this way, and some plants won't show positive ID until well into the bloom season. Get used to reading these.

My advice to folks growing from seeds is to plant twice as many plants as the number of females you want to harvest, if not more.

Wow, thread hit the fourth page so I thought Id bring it back. I planted about half my seeds last week and must have messed up somewhere, as none have sprouted yet. Its all experimental at this point so I'm not really worrying. Ive narrowed it down to a few things which I would see to be a problem, maybe I could get some advice to narrow it down more.
First, weather and security issues wouldnt allow me to get them in soil the day I expected so they soaked an extra day, totalling probably about 50 hours.
Secondly, Temperatures probably hit about 5 deg. C coldest, but now is much much warmer (supposed to be 22 or something out today)
Thirdly, I am uding HP mix soil and watered initially fairly well and covered with saran wrap. Soil remained damp the whole week, never dried up, so next time I wont be covering them, and will put some lava rock on bottom and cut larger holes for drainage. Good ideas?
Fourthly, the cups got shaken up a bit on the way to my site in my backpack, so seed depth might have changed immensly, but this was only to a couple so I assume its not a main cause.
Ill end up buying some clones this year too, but just want to know where I went wrong...
Thanks, Jason

I just had seeds sprout in the water and stay there for 24-36 hours and they are doing fine.

Its more then likely the cold temps that hae stalled the seeds. Give it another week. Hopefully the weather will finally break (although the last 5 days have been nice) soon and temps will rise.

The way its goiing its going to go from cold and rainy to damn hot and dry in week when it does.

Yes, it is beautiful! I forgot what it is like to climb into a parked car with the windows rolled up, LOL!

I am going to start planting the first of my plants late this week, and will continue through mid-June as spring climbs into the mountains.

Yeah, I'm feeling good about this season, of course I always feel great to get under way. The water year has been great for the PNW, and I think it will be that much better for outdoor growers here. More ground water means more ground moisture for plants further into Summer, it also means there will be more better cover plants around to use, and they will stay greener into late summer.

Yep, I feel great, its going to be a beautiful wed-thurs, and I think I will be getting the frist of my plants out maybe.

Take it easy guys, and get out and enjoy this great sun!!

Thanks Medjool! I have been pretty depressed lately so I discussed it with Mrs Spliff and we decided to say screw it and hang out any way. I feal better already, and that's what is important! I'm more productive when I am happy and looking at this forum is no different than looking at any other forum in my opinion. I missed helping people so much it made me feal unworthy of the information I posess and I in turn let my garden suffer. Out of 12 plants I have 3 left and 3 others I'm trying to rejuvinate. So as a message to all out there DONT LET THEM WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love, SSSSpaceman SSSpliff
