This is my first time flowering with them. I am about20" in veg. I vegged this plant kinda big, but I wanted to see how deep these penetrate the canopy. The plant's tops got with in 6-8" from the bulb ( I removed the glass from the sun system lec fixture), with no burn or stress. The plant stretched to+/- 4.5' and produced dense buds pretty much all the way down.

I'm really impressed with these lights in bloom. I am going to be adding a few more to this room and am now considering adding a couple to the gavita flex room under construction as I have an hps on the far end of this room and the frost is even more intense where anot her plant is getting both lights. The plants pictured are only lit by the cmh and are still very frosty...more than previous runs. I was not expecting a 315 to penetrate as deep or produce the mass it did. I will add that this rooms environment is head and shoulders above the hps room I have to compare with right now.

Mind if ask what strain that is? Looks beautiful! Your results make me want to hurry up and get my little 315 tester tent crackin...

Also EZ Rider did you take yours down yet? We need more flower pics in this thread!

Strain is strawberry diesel kush. I all but neglected this room completely for most of the run. I was testing the lights as well as testing to see if the pests that previously devestated this room would resurface. I was going to let this plant go not bc it was bad, i just had so many moms and it was just average compared to some others. I'm second guessing culling her now. Im also second guessing the way I'm lighting my rooms after the results I had here. I haven't fired the gavitas up yet, but I'm interested to see how the end results compare. It will be a while before the plants are dried abd bagged, but the yield looks like it will be nice.

I've been reading through the thread and thought I'd mention Grobal. Bryon Long sent me a complete kit, 3100 phillips cmh bulb, 23 inch x 23 inch shallow reflector and purpose-built low frequency digital ballast for US $320. It's running side by side with a Ushio 400 watt super metal halide in a small predator reflector. Just judging by what I can see, the light output is much greater from the cmh. I'm waiting on another 315, the nanolux, but wish I had gotten two from Grobal, by the way, they named their unit, On-Par. It's only 7 inches tall, spreads the light beautifully and is horizontally positioned. The Nanolux is vertical.Grobal Distributors is located in Denver, Colorado.

debating running the Phillips 860w with og vert hood and mag ballast or just going with Gavita 750/600 flex. Can't decide.
tough decision, but neither one is what this thread is about
personally i would go with DE HPS over an 860w vert CMH (not that there is anything wrong with the CMH 860, it does have to be hung vertically i'd put it in a parabolic hood over OG vert, personally; just remember, that aint what this threads about, either)

any reason you aren't considering 315w CMH, bongjonsilvers?

In my very limited experience flowering with them (1grow), I think they would cover it. Make sure the walls are tight and covered in your reflective material of choice. I have 2 covering an area+/- 3.5'x7' in a room that, although covered completely in reflectix, is much too big for the am of light. It did really well.

Just use 3 315 for every 1k light.. I will swap the flower room at some point. I need 5 more units to do that. I'm going with 10-12 to replace the 3k in the flower room.

Hi Hammerhead …

After reading this thread a few times … I think you have tried the most different cmh lighting systems and for a fair bit of time. I'm just wondering which cmh system you would recommend to a newbie cmh grower with a grow space of around 3'x6' or 4'x8'.

Thanks :)

I only use them in veg. None are noticeably better then another. I will have most converted to Phantom hoods by the time I'm ready to change the flower room. I will have 1 LEC 630 I will use in the center of the room. I need to remove the step down to use on 240v.

More is always better. Ea 315 will cover a 3x3 space..

Tossed around the idea of using the 315 and running 4 of them but not sure how well they would cover my 3'x15' bed.

As otis mentioned, keeping your reflective walls tight are important to running these lights. Thats easier said than done, depending on ones current space, or if your not lighting the entire room. I've found Wide pull down blinds/shades mounted to the ceiling covered in your choice of reflective material handy. A quick tug and you will have easy access to every square ft of your beds, while maintaining maximum wall reflectability insuring every watt from the 315's are utilized! You can always add another bulb later if you feel needed to cover your 3 x 15 beds. I would do 5 from the jump!

Are you using the air-cooled vent system with the Phantoms? Also, did you find any problems using a power converter with any of the lights? Sorry … last one … do you notice any heat issues with running any of the lights on 120v ballasts compared to 240v with a transformer?

I am trying to decide on getting a 240v ballast and using a step power convertor or buying ballast's with 120v.

i wish i had mine in 240's. There is no way to convert the sun systems from 120 to 240 is there?

It may be. They claim to use genuine Philips ballasts, which are all 200-277v. That means they'd have to use a step up transformer for 120v operation. It's a simple matter to open up the unit & wire around the transformer if there is one.

I'd change the power cord as well to get a 240v plug-

Hey guys got a simple question. Just got a 630 and am loving it. Thinking about switching out my gavita De 750 out for all cmh. What would you all reccomend to cover a 4.5/4.5 space. Some say 3 315s but how would you stagger the lights for spread if that's the optimal amount?

I just had a 20 min conversation with the owner of advancedtechlighting.com. long story short, they will be getting all of my future orders, as well as anyone else that asks for my advice. He may have had some issues in the past with late shipments, but he has gone above and beyond to correct them. My order was placed on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week and arrived today. This is a solid company trying to provide a quality product at a fair price.

Fuck Sunlight supply's LEC. Fuck hyrdofarms phantom. He broke down their designs to me. Garbage in the long haul. Buy the Philips ballast, a step up transformer, and a quality air cooled hood.
