Hey guys this thread moves along nicely!

Just dreaming about next year :D

But im gonna try and convert my 24litre pots into some kind of bastardised PPK when i move back indoors... and it will be running 100% organic, like all my grows these days. :ying:

Spent a solid 10 hours in the rooms today, ran out of 3/8 poly tube for the res. need another 30 or 40'. We have used nearly 400'. Did not get the top feed dialed but it has been ran and I have started playing with the cylce timer.

Got some of the ballasts hung and started working on various electrical.
I forgot to rinse the rice hulls and floor dri so I will have to elevate the buckets on bricks and attach a hose to the pump to pull out all of the murky water.

The evolution ro is awesome. I got a deal from the local store at 20% off of retail.

Got a heavy workload so I will be sidetracked with work for a week. If I have the time and energy I will be coming to the warehouse after work. We will see.

Some root talk.

Regarding going from a 5 gallon container to smaller ones...

I'm trying to find the URL to the article, but basically I've seen a study which found that less roots can actually produced higher yield in several plants. The theory was that the plants only needs a certain amount of roots and excessive roots produce diminishing returns.

The roots of my hand watered 5 gallon PPKs filled more than the entire container, but there was less roots in the middle of the container like aforementioned. Will have to veg longer next time =]

? for d9 on current watering schedule. Are you just watering once now every 90 minutes to overfill? Or what is your current schedule?

yes, once per 90 minutes. when i first installed the black box i started with a pulse every 30 minutes. i got some symptoms of too much water and started dialing it back.

about the same time i finally found a universal answer to volume. so with the set volume in mind i began dialing back from 30 minutes again until i didn't see much in the way of symptoms.

i have thirteen different strains in ppk's now so i still have a plant that actually should run a little drier but it could be a weak specimen. most strains look good and grow fast at the 90 min setting.

considering that i'm on a perpetual schedule with plants at every stage of growth, this is not too bad.

I really like how some cannabis smells so nice and tastes good. Around here potency is so far up on the scale that you would never sit around savoring the wonderfull taste as if it were a fine pipe tobacco because you would get stoned too hard to function fast that way. Even so the smoke coming from my setup is not outrageously rough tasting though the expansion factor is way up there.

hey, bill! what strains are those that get you so high that you can't taste the weed? i've got some fairly potent strains going and nothing gets me that high. all my smoke is really smooth and easy on the throat and lungs. all you taste is the plant itself. there are absolutely no other flavors from nutes or anything else. perhaps it's because of the 600 ppm feed and the fact that nutes don't build up in the medium in this system.

i have 3 strains of dr. greenthumbs stuff that he gives a 4.75 out of 5 for potency. the "dope", the "bubba og", which is a pre 98 bubba x og kush, and the "good dog", which is from jim ortega and is a cross of queso negro x pakistani. i haven't finished any of them yet. so we'll see.

i have recently cut an iranian x g13 which was extremely potent but i could still taste the flavors. real narcotic type of high, long lasting.

and an isis from dutch passion which is very potent. i think it tested at 15. something % thc. it has an unusual flavor. spicy, like freshly cracked pepper on apricots (wifes description)

i just whacked a chemdawg 4 x g13 that i will be trying in a few days for the first time. can't wait.

in process are og nukush, purple nukush, and kish x juicy fruit, all from cash crop ken at vancouver seed bank. i have tried both the nukush plants and they are excellent, waiting on the kjf.

also have growing a "matanuska thunderfuck", a sour diesel x g13, a plant called jazz, an ohzone, an "arcata trainwreck" and a original pineapple cut of cinderella99, all from dr greenthumb but still to be tried.

a jar full of seeds of great white shark x grandaddy purps and another of east coast sour diesel. from humboldt.

now i haven't tried a lot of these yet but most have good reps for potency. these all supposed to be high quality strains with good potency but nothing hits me so hard that i can't taste it.

btw, i have also recently tried about 30 strains from northern cali, both indoor and out, and none of them were that potent. most were harsh, low to medium potency, even though they had the good strain names on them.

over the years i have had pot from everywhere that you can think of, thailand, vietnam, cambodia, michoacan, guerrero, acapulco, columbian, jamaica and all the other islands of the caribbean. hash from everywhere that makes it. yet nothing got me to the point where i couldn't taste it.

so, please tell me what these strains are and where i can get them.

thank you, d9

do you happen to have any experience drilling out rubbermaid roughtotes? Do the tire valves seat w/out leaking as they do in the buckets and steri-lite foot locker?

I use the 3 gallon roughneck totes and they valve seats great. I actually like them better than some other containers as the plastic is softer/stretchier. I have never broken one pulling a valve thru and never had any leaks.

I am not saying that you can't taste the weed but more that your not smoking that long. There is a lot of brick weed that you sit around savoring the taste allright but it is mostly because you have to smoke a lot of it for the desired effect. Then there is the smoke that you take a couple light hits you are more concerned with other things than the flavor. I tend to notice the smell of the cured weed much more than what is hanging in the air after the lighter gets to work. The after smoke odors can be pretty large too. As for strains there has been a lot of work in the area using various strains from Subcool along with plenty of pollen tossing. However their has been a long run of different skunk strains brought into the area too. Important to me also is knowing what I am smoking is in no way benefiting any drug cartel in Mexico. For me to say I am especially more concerned with the flavor instead of effect would be a stretch also. If the effect is agreeable then the flavor is a far secondary concideration.

well, i guess my smoke is on the polar opposite end of the spectrum from brickweed. some are both very flavorful and powerful but they don't hit me personally like that. but we do see neophytes or people who are not heavy hitters get absolutely dumbstruck by just a couple of hits. they would probably say that they didn't taste much either.

how people react is very subjective. i can do big hash hits all day while i work building shit but i am totally ruined beyond all hope.

what i'm seeing in my neck of the woods is people getting sophisticated real fast and expecting both flavor and potency. well grown high grade bud. they know they difference and are willing to pay for it.

mediocre won't do. as i work my way through these strains i'm looking for what mrs. d terms the "wow" factor. if there isn't something about it that is absolutely spectacular i'm not growing it.

Those are the totes I am going to be using in a new setup. They are a bit cheaper though from walmart especially if you need 12. They ship site to store free.

D9, would you use 2 tailpieces on those rectangular totes?

Can you clarify your top pulse volume every 90 minutes now? Was that 2.5 gallons per plant pulse fed every 90 minutes?

Here are some pics. The first pic is a messy shot of the room. On the back wall you can see the split ac. The ac guy had to move some stuff around to get in there and work.

The second shot is the black box with out the marine battery box and float valve.

The third shot shows the ballasts mounted on a wall. There will be be 9 next gens i just need to make some more hangers. 3 rows of 3.

The last shot is the 2 ton ac in the other room.
