Midsummer- The other OE plant I recently harvested was only a couple weeks ahead. However, rolandomota pointed out that it may be vietnam dominated pheno that needs a much longer time to mature.(let's hope) the light sched is 12/12.

Stinkhorn123- I have only been giving straight water for last 2 weeks thinking to flush her. what is NEN?

Hey all, I just received a smoke report from a tester. Tester was given a couple ounces of Orient Express. Vegitated outside and flowered inside. A vaporizer was used for the test. The sample was dried and cured in mason jars for 5 months. Grown at 56 degrees north.

orient express is wonderful. i feel completely relaxed and no anxiety. It lasts a good amount of time probably 1 hour and then lighter effects for up to 3? Onset is pretty quick, within 15 mins id say. It gives a warm and fuzzy feel. i couldn't quite pin the taste or smell. i feel like the smell is almost like a mug of orange spice black tea. couldnt quite get the taste at first but it is sweet with maybe a sour herbal. i enjoy this one alot. i totally underestimated it, though the buds are small but dense with thick long orange hairs, it looked scrawny at first glance lol..in the grinder it becomes quite sticky and a perfect consistency. overall i really enjoy it

Thanks to dubi and everyone at Ace. These ladies were a pleasure to grow. I'm working on getting a greenhouse for this season of growing. With so many genetics to run. I haven't decided which strains I will run this summer for friends. Peace

Sorry i didn't update this thread earlier, i'm having some very busy weeks of work for the last months and i'm having trouble to reply all your doubts in this room and keep all the threads updated, yet adding new info about we are working at lately.

Thanks Farmerlion for the great and positive Orient Express smoke report :huggg: Yes, it is to understimate Orient Express as some of their phenos don't produce a finished product with the bag appeal that most modern kush strains have, but as you have experienced Orient Express offers a high quality uplifting, positive, social and anti anxious sativa effect and a real different terpene profile compared with most afghani and skunk strains.

Your report and contributions are always appreciated friend :tiphat:

Hi Dubi,

I have been flowering half a pack of OE. I got one male that I am saving for seeds, and three females. They are growing alongside three Kali Mist females.

Today, about one month into flowering, I noticed that two of them have full blown male flowers—not just nanners. the third seems stable. Is this a known train in OE? I was hoping to make this a staple of my perpetual grow, but really don't want to pollinate my other girls. In my years of growing, I only have had one other hermie experience, and that was from a feminized seed from Dutch Passion.

I was hoping to use cuttings of these, but I don't know if this is wise...

Here are some pics (the two hermie plants have male flowers all over the place, but these were the easiest to photograph with my phone).
In the group shot, the two hermie girls are on the sides, and the stable one is in the middle. I apologize for the rotated picture, I have't been able to find a way to correct it on IC.

Hi Hatter

These are from regular seed, and I agree, the appearance of testicles  is surprising. The fact that this hasn't come up in the threads before if is why I addressed my post to Dubi himself, thinking he might know a little more about this.

Factors that could have come into play: I am using LEDs in this grow. The Kali Mist are seeming to love it, but maybe the OE react differently. Also, perhaps the lights have come on and then gone off without my knowing it during a storm. Temps have been pretty stable, so that is probably not it. I just don't know.

Dubi has been awesome in the past when I have communciated with him, and I am enthusiastic about ACE gear. This is not at all an attempt to disrespect ACE. I have long-term plans for running ACE gear, I just was caught off guard by this and am REALLY glad I found these before they seeded my Kali Mist crop!

Thanks for your informative post, Hatter.

Hi vajra,

I'm sorry to hear about the hermie problem in 2 of your Orient Express, i think we talked privately about it and offered you a replacement for the inconvenience.

To be honest, there have been some hermie problems in some concrete OE lines that came from some concrete OE parental plants and their offspring, these lines and parental plants have been discarded for future breeding and this problematic stock has been removed from the OE stock we are currently selling.

It was not easy to breed a quite sexually firm Vietnam Black P1 x China Yunnan P1 hybrid as both lines originally already had quite hermie tendencies in their first P1 generations although the hermie rates in China Yunnan (especially in current fem P3 release) are almost null nowadays.

Some hermies still did appear in newer OE generations but i think now the problem is fixed and we will only release OE stock coming from lesser parental plants that are more sexually firm and that so far we haven't had any reclaim about hermie problems from them.

We have experienced that modern boosters (especially the ones with hormones) and erratic/incorrect photoperiods can induce higher hermaphroditism rates in this strain so please take this in consideration when growing this strain.

Sorry again for any inconvenience.

This is my sole OE at just about week 9. I will let her go one more week maybe less and I'll chop. 80% of the trichomes are cloudy white so I could take her now as she is really putting out some strong odors. She did pretty good in my led environment and was a voracious feeder...probably could have fed her past week 7 and still wouldn't be enough. She was very low maintenance so long as she had enough food...very easy plant to grow.

Finally got around to writing a small report on the OE. I only had one OE this time around…had several plants but a couple died as seedlings during a drought…had to leave my garden for a few days on short notice and lost many plants. Anyhow, the lone OE turned out fantastic. The smell is very pronounced and difficult to pin down…smells like sweet compost with floral hints but it is a deep rich aroma and smell up the room quickly. The taste is a complex with hints of floral, incense, hash notes that is not subtle and reminds me more of a hash plant type of smoke. Very smooth and inviting smoke to be sure. The effect is quit unique as well. This particular plant is very heady and while it has some body (very little) it super clear and mentally engaging. Once buzz starts, there is warming sensation that makes everything feel mellow and relaxed. This gives the effect an openness and calming sensation which at first feels like it would be conflicting with the sativa effect but it does not. It allows me to function during the day mentally alert but calm with zero anxiety. The effect is powerful and lasts about 2.5-3 hours with about a gram/joint. The fade is clean but I’ve noticed if I smoke this all day or too much in one sitting I feel somewhat tired at the end...probably the Yunnan side coming through. I would not recommend this late at night as it is mentally active high; even though it has a calming effect there is no couch lock. Because of the sharp contrast of effect this is very unique cannabis and excellent for those seeking the equatorial effects without any of the anxiety that sometimes accompanies such plants. I have already put this in for a second run and will try it both early and late flowering to see where she takes me. This plant went 9.5 weeks and was ready at 9 weeks. I am a fan…

Hi Jahaze :)

I think we already commented about the great OE you have grown in other thread, but it's a pleasure to review her again.

Yours is a very nice Vietnam Black dominant pheno: good yielding, with excellent flower/leaf ratio, reasonable and moderate flowering time, great indoor adaptability, nice resins, the aromas must be quite organic, like wet soil in the forest after the rain with even rotten organic aromas. And it should have quite a good and strong sativa effect, as these desirable VB phenos usually have.

I'm glad to see you running again the same OE mother ;) That's a good sign, and your are right, OE overall likes very heavy feeding (especially in flowering) but not so much the modern boosters.

Thanks a lot for sharing your great results with Orient Express

Well it's been about 6 weeks? I haven't got the exact flower time, nor can I exactly pinpoint some of these smells... sweet & sour fruit? There was minimal time in veg, couple weeks. She has indica single cola squat structure, but when you look at the cylax formation there is stacking and looks sativa formation, very cool. (Not the best pic showing it).

Took her at about 9 weeks, she really didnt want to go much longer. Good yield considering low veg time, she fills in nice. Smells earthy and like rotten fruit, haha:woohoo:

Hi Ncali,

Congrats on your first OE harvest! ;)

Yours is the classic Orient Express China Yunnan indica pheno (like the one Syd Barrett is posting), as you have experienced it grows very columnar with a short size and short flowering time, yet producing very well.
This pheno is very suitable for fast flowering SOG indoor grows that lack of height.

The earthy rotten aromas are the 'flagship' aromas in Orient Express strain.

Kali China has been also bred towards the China Yunnan indica phenos but towards totally different terpenes profiles.
Kali China is creamy, incensey, fruity while OE smells and tastes organic, herbal and organic/rotten, it's curious how starting from same China Yunnan genepool i end up with such different breds comparing OE China Yunnan indica pheno and Kali China.

Thanks for sharing your experience, please let us know your opinion about the effect and taste of your OE after the curing!

Hi Lester! The effect is very different than the dutch or american hybrids I have tried. The hit is very unique and very consistent on all phenos, can't really describe the feeling. It is very clear, energetic ,no racy at all, while potent at the same time.At bigger doses can lock your body while your mind is floating in space. Can range between phenos, some are more potent ,I 've had one more narcotic but I let it overripe(about 50% amber). All of them gave me very positive vibes. For me it can be the first,as well as the last joint of the day.Hope this helps!:)

Thanks for the positive feedback on Orient Express effects Syd ;)

you defined perfectly OE effects, the indica phenos you grew lately have a more narcotic effect, but overall all the phenos provide that clear, energetic, positive, not racy and pleasant effect that many sativa lovers appreciate and are looking for.

This is a shot of a bud at the end of flower but this time there are very few trichomes. Will they develop later or something to be done?

Hi NENugger,

Sorry for the delay in the reply.
And congrats on your first OE harvest :)

This second indoor OE you have posted looks like still needs 4-6 weeks to finish since the moment you took the pic.

It's a pheno that shows the wilder and less tamed side of Vietnam Black and the more sativa side from the China Yunnan. She is showing in the picture overfeeding signs like burn in the leaf tips.
I would recommend you to flush her a bit and feed her more moderately in upcoming feedings until you find out what EC works best for her at this moment.

The outdoor OE looks like she is enjoying ;) I'm not sure about your latitude, but if you let me know i can estimate when this sativa pheno could start to flower.

Best regards! :tiphat:

Hi KalidoscopeMind,

As stated in the official Orient Express strain description at our website:

https://www.aceseeds.org/en/orientexpressfem.html

Orient Express can be grown from 0º up to 45º latitude.
If in your location you don't have frosts in October then you will be able to mature properly this strain.

Orient Express fem version is slightly more indica influenced and therefore finishes faster, while Orient Express standard/regular version is more sativa influenced and takes a bit more of time to mature, but it's more mold resistant than the fem version.

Hope it helps.

So this bud flys out of my jar. This is the goto smoke out, social weed. It has a nice strong buzz that eases into a very social, up, giddy high, a little body at the end. The only down side, for me and with people's initial impression: t erps. It's so earthy and whatnot people are skeptical. After the effect kicks in, it's good.

Nice OE bud!

The only downside for me is that it makes my mouth drier than the desert

I found some evidence showing the sativa high with low anxiety of orient express is likely due to its high levels of alpha‐ pinene. One of the scientific articles below suggests alpha‐ pinene may have a anti anxiety effect without a sedative effect, something that dose not happen when high CBD is the primary anti anxiety factor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha-Pinene

This is the wikipedia article that says alpha‐ pinene −)-α-pinene is a positive modulator of GABAA receptors. It acts at the benzodiazepine binding site.[12] α-Pinene forms the biosynthetic base for CB2 ligands, such as HU-308.[

benzodiazepines are anxiolytic drugs like Valium and Xanax

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25340185

This is a link to the study titled "Daily inhalation of α-pinene in mice: effects on behavior and organ accumulation" the abstract says "
There was significant anxiolytic-like activity, which remained constant for the 5 days’ inhalation of α-pinene."

The blow article suggests
alpha‐ pinene may reduce anxiety without sedation

Evaluation of antianxiety and sedative effects of essential oil of Ducrosia anethifolia in mice

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2972602/

Below is the alpha‐ pinene content of Ducrosia anethifolia

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2972602/table/t1-cln_65p1037/

The study is quoted as saying " Unlike diazepam, ducrosia anethifolia essential oil could not suppress spontaneous motor activity and did not alter ketamine‐induced sleep parameters. These results are indicative of antianxiety effect of Ducrosia anethifolia essential oil without sedative effect."

Hi NCali,

You are right, Orient Express has earthy, hashy, 'wet soil after the rain' kind of terpenes, sometimes a bit creamy or spicy. It's not the typical fruity, diesel, skunk or kush kind of terpenes that most of the people is used to nowadays, maybe Orient Express terpenes are not for everyone, but some people really enjoy it, i'm one of them ;)

Hi Bumbatar,

Thanks for sharing your insight about the low anxiety effects that pinene can produce, although i don't think Orient Express clean, social and low anxiety effects are due only to pinene terpenes. Indeed, other rich pinene strains we have analized like Honduras, Ethiopian, Mauritius or Bangi Haze have very exciting, even nervous effects.

It's important to learn the medicinal properties that a single terpene can produce, but to make statements about the effects of a strain by just considering one terpene is to miss the point to be able to understand the whole synergy between all the terpenes + chemotype that a strain can produce.

Cannabis community is just in its infancy to be able to understand this whole synergy, i consider we are just in the initial collecting data stage, and not in a stage where we can find yet objective answers, it will take years, probably decades, before we can reach a scientifical consensus about this theme.
