Why are you recommending coir over peat now? I'm wondering the reason for change... I know you said you prefer peat.

Oh, in your opinion/exp how would this fare in coco coir?
That's why.

Burn1! thanks again for posting info relevent to my posts.
What about those that say that doli-lime isnt really good in coir? I believe Ive read this in the coir forum. If using tap of 7.5pH would the lime be as needed? In theory, could the low pH of sea food (emultion and seaweed) and the nutral pH of coir put the tap's pH down near a good level?

I've said this many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many times...
pH isn't a big factor in organic growing.
Follow the recipe EXACTLY and you'll have success.

Hey BURN1 my tap is from a well the ppm reads 435 and ph over 8 it takes 3 hours to do a 50/50 mix of tap and ro and the dam filters are expensive. i am only asking because i have read threads using dirty water is ok. i use pbp and lime in a lc style mix using ocean forest. can i use just plain tap?or stick with the 50/50.and if i do use the plain tap does the same rules for ph apply?

I'm sure it is fine right out of the tap. Why don't you try it and post your results in the forum?

Is it ok to reuse the dry mix that was used in the veg tea (if it was placed in a nylon stocking used as a tea bag)? And if it is ok to reuse the dry mix, how many times is it recommended to reuse before discarding and mixing a new batch of dry mix? Thanks

Make sure to compost everything instead of throwing it away. In fact, I will throw the mix around a plant and water it in with the tea, that way everything is being used and nothing is wasted.

how long is powdered dolomite lime supposed to suffice the plants? I've mixed 2tbs/gal with my ocean forest soil and perlite and they seem to be having Mg defs early. I'm using the "espoma garden lime" (says dolomitic on bag) that's pelletized but I grind it up.

B1 you da man!!

Should I be adding maxicrop to this recipe:

Flowering nute tea mix:
2/3 cup Peruvian Seabird Guano
2/3 cup Earth Worm Castings
2/3 cup High P Guano (Indonesian or Jamaican)
(That makes the "dry mix". You can make all you want and save it to use later.)
Mix with water @ 2 cups of dry mix into 5 gallons of water to make the tea.
To that 5 gallons of tea add:
5 tbs. Liquid Karma
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
Use it to water with EVERY watering.

I am using Roots Organics Potting Soil. Do I need to add any other calcium source? The Soil has Greensand in it.
Thanks.

Welcome to IC.
You are absolutely correct. How did I not see that. Yes, use Maxicrop or Neptune's Harvest seaweed.
I'm an idiot. :asskick:
Potting mixes are mostly plain old peat with a little perlite mixed in.
You'll need powdered dolomite lime, worm castings and more perlite. Try this...

6 parts Roots Organic Potting Soil
2 parts perlite
2 parts earthworm castings
Powdered (NOT PELLETIZED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
If you use a 3 qt. saucepan as “parts” in the amounts given above, it equals about 1 cu. ft. of soiless mix and you can just dump in a cup of powdered dolomite lime.
But, a "part" can be anything from a tablespoon to a five gallon bucket. Just use the same item for all of the "parts".

tea question

tea question

hey y'all! hope you're enjoying some of our good tree of life! i'm enjoying some nice home-organic-grown mandala hashberry right now. very mellowing. :joint: i am however looking at improving my skills!
so, i tried making the seedling tea...
Seedlings less than 1 month old nute tea mix-
Mix 1 cup earthworm castings into 5 gallons of water to make the tea.
Add 5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses.
Use it to water your seedlings with every 3rd watering.
and it never foamed. is it supposed to foam?
i use an aquarium pump and airstone to bubble the water. i put the ewc in a nylon sock. i poured the molasses in the water (was i supposed to pour it in the dry ingredients?).
first i tried with tap water. after 48 hours, nothing. i thought maybe it's the chloramine, although i expected there wasn't going to be enough chloramine to make a difference. in fact i thought it would be a great way to get rid of the chloramine.
so i started over with drinking water from the store (what i normally use to water my plants). after 48 hours, still no foam, no smell!
is this base tea supposed to foam? if so, why would mine not foam?
so i got a little homemade compost from the yard, sure to get some bacteria from that. and sure enough, 24 hours later, it was starting foaming. and there was slimy stuff at the surface. the smell wasn't pleasant like a good soil mix; but it was not foul either; so i have doubts as to whether that was the beneficial bacteria we try to breed. was my tea successful? is the smell an indication that something went wrong? maybe the compost wasn't fully composted.
thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick replies. I am already in my 4th week of flowering so i can't add dolomite lime to my soil. So should i add some dolomite lime to the tea or should i add a cacium supplement such as Cal-Mag plus or Plant Amp which is an OMRI listed 1% Cacium supplement from Cutting Edge solutions. Or should i add nothing? 1 more thing, can I use Nitrozyme instead of Maxicrop? Thanks again

Worm casting tea doesn't foam.

thatspoker422-
Dolomite is only good if it is mixed well into the soil. Use CalMagPlus as directed. Not sure about the Nitrozyme.
