Hey BJ,

A home brewing system just requires a bucket and airstone and a few simple ingredients.
When you get all your ingredients and your ready to mix just post what you have and how much you'd like to make and the OFC gang will tailor your mix.

Making your own compost tea sounds like it would work great but unless your growing on a large scale why not just get some Liquid Karma or does your own tea work better?

^^^^That is not true. You do not need to grow on a large scale to reap the benefits of compost teas.

Have you studied up on the benefits of compost teas? Compost teas can be made to fit specific needs of the plant.

Most commercial teas contain very little living micro-organism.

This link is a FAQ on compost teas.

http://www.anr.state.vt.us/dec/wastediv/compost/pubs/Homeuse3col.pdf

This article is very basic, there are links at the bottom to lead you further into the benefits of compost teas.

After reading that.....would you ask the same question?

V

thx for enlightening me on the subject vonforne and no I wouldn't ask the same question again cuz you answered it. But I do think LK would be more suited to my need's I don't like foaming bucket's jk. Peace and Pot

If you do not like foaming buckets you could make your tea in the passive way and just shake it up every now and them. No foam at all. After a couple of days just strain it out and water in. I didn't think you would ask the same Q again. It was just a figure of speech. :)

I have used LK and had very good luck with it. Make sure you keep it in a cool place out of the light or it will go bad.

awsome, just gotta get the stuff, hopefully within a week, its getting pretty late almost june.
A few questions tho. How long do the micro organisms live after after being oxygenated and then into a jug? should i add some fertile dirt in the tea to activate the "micro colony"?

Will they reproduce and/or live for about 3.5-4 months in my holes, if so at what rate?

this is what i was drawn to conclude myself, can u help me if i'm wrong vvv

worm castings are for instant and long term nutrient uptake since it is already "composted"?

alfalfa-kelp-and other meals and emulsions are food for the micros and also release nutrients and trace minerals over time while the micros digest it and that also releases nutrients into the soil?

molasses is just an optional additive and sugar for tastier, healthier, happier, smellier, buds/plants and can also cause a greater yeild?

is this a good, alright, or wrong way to look at it.

-sorry about so many questions, its just that there is so many posts on this thread that i dont have time to search for the answers. i'm just lookin for a simple, quick, and concise overview of what these ingredients do.
thanks Soob and all other visitors that have help me so far.

Super glad to have ya!! Sounds like your on the right path.

To use organics, you first need to look at your setup and see what works best. I.E. are you doing a SOG or Scrog, can you veg longer, can you compost your dirt afterwords? All things to think about.

Hey BC glad you could make it back to our little nest here lol.
It sounds like your organic based and just so we are clear properly grown chemmy plants with a good flushing at the end can be tottally safe and healthy and some pretty good smoke so fear not for your health or that of other med patients.
I chose organics because on some level I personnly do believe it to be healthier both for myself and mother nature...hence again for myself.
There are alot of good things about this world but MOST of them are mysteries and to me Mother Nature holds they keys to most of them.

So welcome and ask ?'s and share your mix, it will be cool :D

Pumpkin, Jaykush, and Suby thanks for the wellcome in the OFC well.. to answer
sum Q's i'm working with a 4x8 hydrohut with 2 aircooled 1000w's i usualy use 5 gal homedepot buckets i do have a 100 gal res where i can mix all my addatives i am only working with alittle hieght as the huts are only 8' high so 1-2 weeks depending on the strain is all the veg time i'm working with.
i would like to throw sum add's plus feed with teas as well. so fare i got myself 1 bale pro mix hp, E.B. stone soil booster: Fir bark, chicken manure, mushroomcomposet,EWC,volcanic pumice stone, bat guano, kelp meal, feather meal. Thats whuts in the soil booster, i also got sum alfalfa meal,
dolimite lime ,down to earth bone meal, bloodmeal, and sea bird guano, and i also have indo bat, mexican bat, puruvian bat, jamacian bat guano. after reading almost everyones post and researching threads i decided on my first soil mix,

1 bale promix hp
4c e.b. stone soil booster
4c alfalfa meal
21/2c high p guano
1tbls per gal dolimite lime
1bag e.b.
stone ewc
5gal perlite

And after reading i am going to innoculat with a tea
1tbls per gal molasses
1tbls per gal alfalfa meal
1tbls per gal ewc
1tbls per gal kelp meal

Now, any sugestions and advice about the mix's would help oh yeah.. do i have to let the soil set for 2 weeks befor a used it? Thanks everyone

I'm with you on that. I've been using AN and GH for a while now, and was once convinced that mixing nine different nutes was the way to go. However, after smoking many excellent grown og nugs, and seeing how interesting and relatively cheap, fun and easy it looks, that's my future path.

I've already got a new bale of promix, blackstrap, castings, high p guano, and more and am ready to do this. Just fed my girls who went into flower their first dose of tea.

for now it's a basic mix of 1tbsp each of Castings, LK, high P guano, and a dash of hygrozyme. I'll be reading up on it more in depth and getting more things to add like alfalfa, etc, etc. Also been giving them foliar feedings of floralicous bloom, LK, and Cannazyme.

I really think the yield, potency, and flavor are mostly dictated by the strain you use, and not by adding ten supplements and nutes. So I'm working with a less is more approach.

imo all those react with each strain. so its best to grow the same thing a few times to get what it likes the best. then youll have all three of those at the best they can be. sometimes less is more though. as some old friends would say "keep it simples stupid"

That mix sounds fine but you have not K in the mix, you'll need kelp meal in there or you'll need to feed it kelp teas or Maxicrop often, plus it contains alot of micros.

Compost it properly for minimum 3 weeks, the animal manure in it will produce a good heat phase so it will be essential.

Peace

Thanks suby, so more kelp in the mix? will do... Quik Q, you think if i throw the mix together inuculate the soil, let it cook for 1 week probably 1 1/2 . i do have sum ak-47's in 1 gallon grow bags veged up for almost 2 weeks, now.. would it be safe to transplant the ak's in my 5 gallon homedepot bucket filled about 50% with my newly mixed organic soil, andt have the top filled with sum regular top soil? how long do the roots grow a day, will my newly mixed soil be ready by the time my roots get there?
