This looks very simple to setup thanks for sharing the info. I got a couple questions...

How do you guys hold the air stone at the bottom?

Is it ok to take a cutting and leave the stem in the water as long as there's air bubbles?

Would it be ok to mix in some rooting hormone powder into the water to encourage rooting? Is that even necessary?

Do I really need an air stone? Couldn't I just drop the hose in the bucket?

riviera... if it's cheap, readily available nutes you want, try your own urine . it works . there is a thread or two about it somewhere here, try finding it with the search button . i dont know exactly how you would use it in hydro because i am a soil grower (for now). in soil, you water the piss down 10:1 or thereabouts.

this is a pic of my current grow, about one month into flower. it has been fed only what was in the soil to start with, along with urine and the occasional pinch of epsom salts and a dash of molasses.

not intending to hijack this thread, folks, just thought i would answer the question about nutes . this thread is actually on my list of subscriptions because i intend to try hydro in the future . the quick growth that you hydro guys seem to get is very impressive !

got to try this out i,ve got three little runts that wont realy grow much so i made a bubble bucket stuck all three in it and i keen to see what happens over the next week useing a 10gallon bucket heres to hoping

I used to do this method years ago, I would use 5 gallon buckets with lids. The main problem I ran into was not enough air pressure so I bought a Commercial style air Pump. It would blow enough air to keep 22 buckets boiling. Great way to do hydro. Just reading this thread makes me want to go back and do it that way again. Have fun

quick question about this setup,
i plan on using a rubbermaid container and 6 netpots in the top. How often do you have to switch out the nutrients? does the plant suck a lot of it up, or do you have to flush it and refill it every month?
Whats the deal with that? thanks!

Famous: Depends on how much they drink. I did one DWC-grow, came out great, at least the indoor-strain in it, I topped the res once in a while when the waterlevel was too low, didnt flush, only at bloom nute-change of cause. But I could imagine that it would be good for the taste to flush a little. Unless you do organics.. But still... The thing is, if you want to flush, install a valve, runoff or what its called, it makes it easier to do it.

0p0rat0r: Glue it to bottom or use strips. Or get a round heavy one to just lay still at the bottom. I did that. I would get a o2-pump, its for the best :) And they are cheap, so..
And let the stem be above water if its a unrooted clone 20-30 cm above waterlevel. Just a couple of centimeter or 1-2 inches of the roots above water if its a rooted clone,

would I "overbubble" my plants if I'd put 400l/h air pump in single 15l bucket?

thanx

re emergency nutes try finding a urine thread yup pee in full of nitrogen you got to dilute it a lot 10-20 part water to 1 pee part wood ashes give potassium bones give phosphorus not sure how they make bone meal for ferts but you could take bones fromm food ie chicken roast them in oven to kill bacteria sterilize and scrape clean and crush them up and boil them the water would draw out some of the soluble phospherous have used these in making soil mix but haven't tried them in hydro /// try finding "jerry Bakers everyday garden secrets or one of his other books lots of receipes for ferts etc using common household or supermarket products... well diluted amonia also in full of nitrogen

Nevermind hydroton. While they are a nice even size for the most part, they are just lava rock covered in clay. You can get a bag for $3.95 at home depot. And its a big bag, about as big as a $50 bag of hydroton (40L)

The red lava rock is in the outdoor section usually, by the marble chips and paving stones and such. Just give it a good rinse, and you are set

ahh yes i rember the good old days when i used to grow with bubble buckets back when i used to post as dankenstine on overgrow.com keep up the good work bubble buckets are the perfect way for beginers to get introduced to hydroponic growing, just take a fish tank air pump a bucket and some rockwool throwem all together and watch em grow just add water and nutrients

Yea.. I was thinking of doing soil.. But now i'm definitely doing a mini PC hydro grow haha.. I've done some research at walmart with container sizes.. and i think i can pull this off :p

Is there any ideal water temp range that I need to keep the water at? Cuz my temps inside the case might be around 80F+

This should work fine if I use lava rocks instead of balls right?

Lil mo towards the Bio-Bucket DWC kinda thing?

I got the air pump, 2 big assed stones and 4, 4-in net pots. Thanks to your most excellent prodding - I have succum to the dark side of indoor growing.

My mate grew 2 massive PPP clones with one of these systems, the 2 sisters that I took out to Spain and stuck in COCO did not do so spectacularly well ..... A good simple system that I am going to experiment with in 2008, maybe using a solar pump not a air bubbler [essentially to do the same job] and maybe using some COCO in with the balls...... it is the best medium for the hard water here......

hey....thanks for the thread(and the many others around the place)...ive read it a couple of times and will probly read again...got 3 20 liter buckets and soon will get the rest of what i need....one thing i dont want to get wrong is the air pump...

have i understood correct that i would need aprrox 150 ltr(if not i'll blame no sleep) an hour pump per 20 ltr bucket?....and its possible i may go to 4 buckets later?(so i will turn it down for now for 3 bkts)....so what ltr size pump do i need would you say? i'd rather just go one pump rather than sigle ones(KISS).......seen the question asked a few times...but still a touch unclear.......i may be back with more Q's ....have been wanting to try this for awhile.thanks.HH. =]-~
