hey....thanks for the thread(and the many others around the place)...ive read it a couple of times and will probly read again...got 3 20 liter buckets and soon will get the rest of what i need....one thing i dont want to get wrong is the air pump...

have i understood correct that i would need aprrox 150 ltr(if not i'll blame no sleep) an hour pump per 20 ltr bucket?....and its possible i may go to 4 buckets later?(so i will turn it down for now for 3 bkts)....so what ltr size pump do i need would you say? i'd rather just go one pump rather than sigle ones(KISS).......seen the question asked a few times...but still a touch unclear.......i may be back with more Q's ....have been wanting to try this for awhile.thanks.HH. =]-~

can anyone answer happyherbs question?..i too need to know...i have read the whole thread but it hasnt answered this question..yet!!

i am planning on four 20L buckets with a 1900L/hr airpump which has four outlets. This would give me 475L/hr per bucket...is that enough? (i havent done DWC before)

also does anyone know what size water pump would be needed to pump my nutes around this system if i use a 60-80L control bucket and four 20L bubbler buckets(total of 160L fpr the system excluding the plain water reservoir)

is there a number of changes per hour reccomended for your water pump?(like with air exchanges per min/hour with your exhaust fan)
thanks for answering my questions if you know!!

btw...an awesome thread!!!..and kudos to all whom have contributed..i have learned heaps!!

Hey dudes and dudettes this hydro is cheap and very affordable I built this system got it from overgrow , could'nt be happier.I got me a stealth system going in my double door BR closet, grow box ,2 sides 1 for veg and 1 for flower,50" tall 20 depth, and 18" wide each side got a duct booster fan sucking air out to my attic with passive air intakes. Take it easy later.

Must agreeee with you guys. These buckets do the trick. As a newbiew first time grower I used 4l buckets like Pipedream uses under a 150w hps and yielded nearly 3oz.
I was amazed an am enjoying the harvest as we speak. These things really work!!

hi dr.d i like your cheap version of the oxi pot that sells for a pretty penny in the hydro shops near me. i am setting up a closet grow and would like to link 9 pots some way so i can pour nutes into one pot and it will disperse through to all the other buckets. is this practical and if so how should i do it? cool thread could save me a small fortune

Had To do it

Well this thread caught my eye in a big way. first time trying hydro and this seems pretty easy. I've set one bucket up and running. using floranova ,3 pumps with lost of air.lights are 2 x 70w hps 4 x 13w cfl.2 out take fans. pretty ghetto but it seems to work so far. right now is a test run of some midi bagseed. if all work's well I ordered pappaya seeds online and can't wait to start them. I'll be adding another bucket during the week in hopes to have 6 plants at at time.

A little peek at what I've started I'll keep progress posted. Btw it's two levels one bucket on top one on bottom(when finished)

This is definently a good thread and so so easy to make. I started with a emilys garden which held 6 pots in a 2 gallon resi...then realizing it wasnt a very good setup, built two dwc 5 gallon buckets and will never look back. They grew much quicker and healthier in the dwc buckets. My only problem is one of my plants has some root rot but it looks beyond healthy, i have to figure out if i cut it out or what. anyhow heres a pic of 5 days of root growth when i transplanted to 5 gallon buckets.
this was a few days after i put them in from the emilys garden.

and 5 days being in the bucket

Well hell I think I'm going to have to give that bubbler a try! I have always plants grow in dirt not water. But that seems so darn easy I gotta give it a try. I have some C99 and Sweet Tooth and Trainwreck waiting to pop open so this will be a good time to try and compare.

In Dr. D's system is he using a res at all or swapping the old water for new water manually? I'm on a tight budget at the moment so this setup is perfect for me but I was wondering if there is anyway possible for me to avoid buying all the expensive meters for testing PH/TDS/CF etc by using a fresh batch of nute rich water every so often. I also have an R.O. setup if that helps at all.

300$ budget and I still have to buy a light so things are tight around here =[

Damn you Bush!
