Oldtimer's Haze

A question for those who have been in this position before ...

How do I manage this female plant from here ?? Usually I try to set pollen about 4 weeks before harvest, but in this case that wasn't possible.

She is now just over 8 weeks into flower, and the seeds should be ready by week 12 ... however, will she continue flowering into Week 16 or so ??

Do I take some branches down at Week 12 to collect seed, and then let her keep growing for another month and then harvest for smoking ?? Or will she go into senescence after Week 12 when the seeds are ready ??

Responses are much appreciate ... thanks !!

Thanks Troutman

Do you know if the plant will start losing seeds (i.e. falling on the ground) if they are mature at 10 to 12 weeks, and she keeps on growing to 16-18 weeks (i.e. the estimated flowering time) ... or will the plant just start dying at 12 weeks when the seeds are matured ??

Troutman ... thank-you for your advice ... due to the extended flowering nature of the hazes, I was uncertain about the best approach to manage seeds which had been set so early in the flowering cycle.

Much appreciated :thank you:

oldtimers haze, green phenotype
harvested @ 19wks of 11/13
8wk cure
the high has gained cleanliness and clarity since harvest.
less "hazy dazy". a mild energy level has begun to turn on.
i think it needs another 4-6wks to get right...

Hi LowFalutin,

That's a lovely old school pure sativa bud :yummy:
I also like to give a long cure to the Hazes, after 6 months of curing process i usually get the best uplifting effects and terpenes from the Green Hazes. Enjoy her! ;)

Hi canna.ballistic,

What an orgy!! :D Glad to see you are still growing our old Green Haze Thai release :)
Very happy to see older limited editions still being grown and used in reproductions and breeding projects

Your female is very heavily seeded, 4 weeks is too little time in my opnion to let the plant mature such quantity of seeds, better wait at least 6 weeks since you removed the males and then check the seed maturation in different branches ... i doubt you will have much bud to smoke after the heavy pollination as the plant will use most of its energies to mature all the seeds rather than produce more new flowers.

I have been growing some Green Haze / Thai this season. Seeds were germinated between start and mid Dec ... a late start to try and keep the size manageable !! These look like they could get huge with an early germination (say, end of Sept) and long veg period. Transplanted into ground mid to end Jan (i.e. 6 to 8 weeks old), with flowering starting during 2nd week of March (i.e. after 12 to 14 weeks veg).

These photos are from about three week ago (at about six weeks into flower). There is one elegant girl, surrounded by three males, doing their manly duty and creating future GHT seeds. Some side branches were also taken off the males, so as to collect pollen to seed a Chimera Hawaiian Spice and Lemon Cello (i.e. Sweet Skunk).

thanks for the curing guidance, dubi.
that would be around sept. with these harvested hazes here,
around the time flowering would kick off on the next run (all indoors).

i've got a nice little set of double jam seedlings now, and will be looking
for blue mountain-leaning males for pollinating my keeper OT hazes
(i.e., after that 6mo selection).
also in the midst of germinating some of cbg's durban for the same purpose.
green OT haze reveg. will soon take clones...

Hi LowFalutin,

I think the Double Jams would be a very interesting addition to your sativa breeding projects. I had the chance to smoke some heavily seeded Double Jam buds and the little flowers left after take out the seeds provided a very electric all in the head effect, alert thought provoking ... found it a bit paranoia inducing, but overall delivers a very interesting extreme tropical sativa jamaican experience, i found similarities in the terpenes and effect between Double Jam and Oldtimer's Haze so i think both would combine well if you are looking for enhance the electric qualities of both sativas .... probably crossed with Green Haze would be my best choice, although it can be interesting to cross her also with Purple Haze, you never know which one will be the best until test the offspring.

Good luck with your sativa endeavours! ;)

Hi there!
I've got four OTH going, looking almost the same except for the branching which is not there with the smaller ones...wonder whether this is pheno or sex related...someone help this poor old sod out... :)

As a generalisation narrow leaf strains are all stem from seed until they reach a height set in the genes, i assume this is for competition against local flora in the wild.

Hi orfeas friend :)

Lovely outdoor hazes! To grow pure haze indoors is a pain in the ass, but ... aren't they super sexy outdoors ? :D
Glad you decided to grow some extreme tropical sativas this season, ready for a Xmas harvest time ?

As Illuminate correctly pointed out, plants from seed usually start to branch stronger after reaching sexual maturity and Oldtimer's Haze is a slow one, but even being the line so heavily inbred, Oldtimer's Haze is very vigorous outdoors with hot temps and strong sun, you can top them to improve their branching.

Best wishes!

Thanks heaps for the response, boys!
I understand the generalisation but no competition against local flora here ( ignore the location pics were taken at)...the plantlets are all peers having come to life on April 21st...

As for Xmas harvest time, amigo, I have no such aspirations whatsoever for the sun gets too low in December and the temps may go below... the drive to grow this nevafinish strain was induced by sheer curiosity to see that legend flower around my neck of woods... :)

Now I'm growing some SSH. I put one into a 100l container yesterday that was like 3 weeks old with just it's true leaf & no other growth yet. I'll see if they do the Beanstalk thing B4 showing any branching.

I have a 5-pack of OTH regs on the way. I plan to breed for purple.

good luck man, but remember the oldtimers haze has a 60% female rate... the majority of your plants are likely to be females....

Hope you find a male! I got one out of my 7 freebie seeds, the rest were female....

great strain! hope you enjoy!
