Hi canna.ballistic,

What an orgy!! :D Glad to see you are still growing our old Green Haze Thai release :)
Very happy to see older limited editions still being grown and used in reproductions and breeding projects

Your female is very heavily seeded, 4 weeks is too little time in my opnion to let the plant mature such quantity of seeds, better wait at least 6 weeks since you removed the males and then check the seed maturation in different branches ... i doubt you will have much bud to smoke after the heavy pollination as the plant will use most of its energies to mature all the seeds rather than produce more new flowers.

Dubi, sorry for the delayed response but I have been away for the past month. Thanks ... I took your advice and left the plant to do its thing whilst I was away. Plant has now been harvested ... lots of ripe seeds and not much bud for such a big girl, as you predicted !!

I had to go away for a month, so my Green Haze x Thai girl had to make it on her own without any watering (other than about 20mm of rain) or feeding. I came back to her looking pretty bedraggled ... all the secondary fans leaves along the buds had been consumed for food, and then browned off to reduce water uptake.

However, the plant had successfully ripened her heavy seed load during this period, although obviously at the expense of bud formation which is very airy. Plant was chopped yesterday after almost 16 weeks in flower. There were still some clear trichomes, although most were cloudy with some amber starting to form. If she wasn't so heavily seeded, it looks like she could have gone another two or three weeks.

Aromas are very delicate and subtle ... a sweet woody pine smell that gently wafts through the air ... can't wait to sample after a long cure (okay, maybe a little taste after a short cure !!)

Straggly looking after a month of doing it tough on her own

has anyone who has experience growing these ever get any that finished really early?? i currently have one thats been flowering for a few days over 11 weeks, and most pistils have turned orange, no new pistil development, and most trichomes seem cloudy with a few clear, no amber ones yet as far as i can see. plant is grown using a t-5 and in a blend of light warrior with ocean forest mix. I feel like the light cylce i had it on could have possibly sped things up on it (14/10 to veg and 10/14 to flower). any thoughts and opinions appreciated.. figure maybe she has 2-3 more weeks in her??

thanks, and this one is not seeded except for one branch of the plant( got hit with some fruity pebbles og pollen). the third pic down is actually a clone from the big one that got mixed in and that is fully seeded. i grew 7 plants got 5 ladies and 2 studs.. grew everything out took a set of clones and got rid of all the seed plants except for the one pictured( it all wont fit under the t5 lol) the 5 ladies got totally hit with the male pollen so i can preserve this variety to grow in the future. all the plants look mostly done putting out new pistils, some of the seeds dont look quite ready though.. i polinated them 7 weeks ago and figure I'd give them another 3 weeks as dubi suggested. here is another pic or two..

Of courseit has. The less hours of light you give during the flowering cycle, the less time the plants take to finish.

kind regards,

If you're going for seeds. Wait until the calyxes start splitting and they look like they are drying.
In your last pic, the calyxes are nice and green. Wait until they turn brown to golden. To get the
maximum amount of good seeds you have to sacrifice the weed.

For my seed plants, I let the plants go until they look like they are dying basically.

Once you've done it. You'll know what I'm talking about. :)

Troutman (you seed whore !!) ... once again providing great advice on managing canna seeds ... thanks :tiphat:

Hope you don't mind me adding a couple of additional comments :

- The pistils on the youngbuck1986 plants have only just turned brown, which to me indicates immature seed. The pistils will fall off as the seeds mature in the calyxes.

- I believe your comment on letting all the calyxes turn brown is more applicable to indoor grows where climate and plant conditions can be better controlled. Because I grow outdoors, I prefer to chop a bit earlier (say 5 to 10% of calyxes turning brown), as the brown calyxes are very susceptible to sooty mold which can impact on both the overall plant health, as well as the seed condition.

- When 5 to 10% of calyxes have turned brown, I find at least 90% of the green calyxes contain mature seed (i.e. less than 10% immature seeds overall). Letting more than 5 to 10% of calyxes turn brown (with an outdoor grow) results in extra seed loses from sooty mold, calyxes exploding and dropping seed (especially when harvesting and transporting plants).

- By cutting plants with only 5 to 10% brown calyxes, I still get a sufficient harvest of smokeable material

I have a 5-pack of OTH regs on the way. I plan to breed for purple.

Welcome O.D. Green :)

As rexamus correctly pointed out Oldtimer's Haze has a very high female ratio so don't think you will find many males to choose from from a 5 seed pack, better to start with bigger populations if you really want to make an improvement and stabilization towards a specific pheno. Anyway, hopefully you will find interesting things ;)

Please, keep us updated! Good luck!

Hi canna.ballistic,

Glad your outdoor Green Haze x Thai managed to ripen all her seeds despite she was heavily seeded and not watered for weeks.
If the seed production was the main goal then the grow is a success without any doubt, and i think you can still get a nice product doing extractions or hash with the leftovers.

Wish you find interesting offspring! :)

Hi youngbuck1986 :)

Thanks for sharing your experience with Oldtimer's Haze, looks like you found a really interesting dense resinous and fast! flowering Purple Haze pheno. Rarely Oldtimer's Haze takes lesser than 14 weeks to ripen, usually her flowering times are over 16 weeks, especially when flowered directly from seed ... flowered from clones it usually ripens 2-3 weeks faster.

Although the longer is the flowerign time of an extreme tropical sativa, the more it can vary its flowering time depending on flowering variables. I usually like to provide a couple of weeks at 12/12 when switch them to flower indoors, then switch to 11/13 for 3-4 weeks (depending on the stretching) to finally lower down to final 10/14 photoperiod. Maybe your decision to flower them directly with a 10/14 photoperiod did help to speed up the flowering process, other variables to take in consideration are temps, size of the pot, feeding, kind of lamps and also the specific pheno.

Hope you are happy with what you have found in this line so far!

I had an oth experience last nite.... I haven't smoked much lately, and as such my tolerance is way down...

I had a small toke of my tiny racehorse joint, as I waited for my pizza... That gave me a lovely manageable high, which would still allow me to interact with the public... Nice calm feeling, senses enhanced, feeling of well-being....

As I sat at my girlfriends place, with her and her mother watching TV, I went for a toke back in my car as I grabbed some sketchbooks and pens so I could do some drawing...

Again, the feeling of well-being, comfortable with being in the company of my non smoking girlfriend and her straight-as-f mother... Hahaha.... I enjoy having conversations with them whilst high.... And showing them my sketches for graffiti pieces....

The Time came for me to go out painting, and I drove to my favourite overpass, having another couple tokes....

By the time I parked and got out of the car, I realised I was much higher than I'd been all nite, and I was far too high to manage the highway, the cars, and painting....

I stood there at the car, feeling higher as every minute went past.... Semi trailers and b-doubles whizzing past sounded like freight trains.... The engines making a sound that I thought sounded like their horns blaring.... But after some time, I realised that I was just incredibly high.... Far from feeling comfortable with completing my task.

I sat back in my car and waited for the high to subside abit to be able to manage my task... the feeling of well-being, became euphoria, as I sat dreaming up ideas in my head for the painting...

Everything seemed awesome, the sounds, the feeling, the thoughts in my head.... The shapes of the trees, the stars and constellations....

It took about 2 - 3 hours for me to come back to reality.... Overall, a nice experience, despite being more high than I wanted/expected.... :D

:tiphat:

Thanks dubi!

Thanks to you rexamus :huggg: sounds like you had an epic psychedelic experience with your Oldtimer's Haze ;)

Oldtimer's Haze is highly inbred but the amazing quality of the Haze effect is still there, the effects get even much stronger and psychedelic in Haze x sativa hybrids like Panama Haze.

hey guys, i just wanted to say thanks again for all the fast replys. today at the 14 week mark i decided to retire my little seeded clones and the bigger plant i had from seed. today marked the 10 week mark from pollination and i have been picking some healthy seeds out of the buds but i have also been picking a bunch of seeds that look mature but crack under a little pressure between the fingers. i feel like regardless of how much longer i let them go i feel like due to their size, pot size, and the insufficent lighting from the t5 that the plants didnt have enough energy to make every seed a winner and im ok with this. i have about 40 seeds or so collectively that i have been picking out but won't know the final count until i let everything properly dry and sift through the plant material, but on that note I'd like to share some more photos( forgive, they arent the best) and experiences ive had with these plants. I also want to thank dubi because this is a truly special variety to have in the collection and the amount of patience, and love it goes into growing and making seeds from these plants is a true test of ones discipline, and the fact they are available in pure form and at such a reasonable price is a true sign as to how much of a stand out guy dubi and the ace crew really are. so once again thanks so much for giving me the chance to go on this odyssey because thats certainly what it felt like lol.
