Off the shelf retail store screw-in LED and CFL bulb comparisons

did you even read that shit?

The researchers crunched, leached and measured LED diodes large and small and found the larger the product the more toxins it contained. However, just the low intensity red-colored LEDs contained eight times the level of lead allowed under California state law. The bulbs also contain a small amount of copper — the extraction and refining process of copper is extremely destructive to streams, rivers and lakes around the world. The researchers noted that one exposure to a broken diode probably won’t cause cancer but could be a tipping point. They also noted that first responders arriving to scenes of broken LED traffic lights and car head lights on a regular basis should treat the chemicals as hazardous waste and wear proper protection. Though LEDs are difficult to break — it would be hard for you to fracture your new efficient holiday lighting — those included in vehicles and traffic lights could pose a greater risk of breaking due to the high speed accidents they can be involved in.

Ogunseitan and other UC-Irvine researchers tested several types of LEDs, including those used as Christmas lights, traffic lights, car headlights and brake lights. What did they find? Some of the worst offenders were low-intensity red LEDs, which were found to contain up to eight times the amount of lead, a known neurotoxin, allowed by California state law and which, according to researchers, “exhibit significant cancer and noncancer potentials due to the high content of arsenic and lead.” Meanwhile, white LEDs contain the least lead, but still harbor large amounts of nickel, another heavy metal that causes allergic reactions in as many as one in five of us upon exposure. And the copper found in some LEDs can pose an environmental threat if it accumulates in rivers and lakes where it can poison aquatic life.

oh shit, i better stop EATING those led's, ffs people use your brain! they even mention "socialist plot" ...murica

Every convenience humankind has ever used/developed, there is always a potential hazard. EVERYTHING WE DO has hazards. It's just that some are worse than others.

I think that the nickel content in euro coins are higher than in white led light.

Keep on growing :)

Bro I just said I wasn't worried about it. I did read it. It also said that a can of tuna is more toxic than a cfl. I work in a chemical plant with just about anything and everything you can think of. Nitro benzene, chromic acid, you name it. I just posted it cause I found it interesting.

Day 66 12/12 on the 108w screw-in LED tent:

Chop time.

What's with the weird crispy leaves? Is this an LED thing?

No idear, buds look amazing.

Good 10-14 day dry upcoming.

:)

The 108w LED tent is now dry.

Ended up with 84.2g dry.

Not bad considering it's basically the same yield I was getting with the 150w HPS which draws 162w.

Very happy with them. :)

A few nugs

That's really strain dependent. Some plants just won't produce a single cola.

Thank you so much for doing the real work on these bulbs.

Have you considered doing any after xxx hour tests?

I think this would be perfect for a little seed creation experiment.

Again, thank you

i got an order for a few cool whites at a local store so ill grab a few 6500 and see if its different in veg, i do prefer 6500k tubes to led for vegging, it does keep them a lot bushier so ask me in a few months

Just wanted to share where I am, based on deciding to go with LEDS as opposed to CFLS due to this thread.

My light setup is 6 5000k and 2 2700k. I think all 9w.

1st pic is plant #1 as of yesterday (approximately 20 days since showing through the soil).

2nd pic is this morning, after topping and mild training (you can see the bamboo skewers turning my off center plant).

Meant to add,... It would be easy to double my wattage if need be, but not sure that i need to. I have a dozen 2700k LEDS ready to go...
