o shit i just fried the ac cord connection please help

if i rewire this into this new gfi it would be identical to the one it came with right?
Well that dude earlier was saying that what was on there before was not a GFCI but in fact a LCDI. I incorrectly assumed that they were GFCI's. So it won't be identical but it will still work. You can run it that way for now but you should probably get a replacement cord from the manufacturer and swap the whole thing out at your earliest convenience.

how hard can it be to cut a wire and rewire it right ak?
Not hard at all.

we'll no matter what im using an extension cord. even if i gotta go buy another ac im still using a cord. i disagree with you guys that its dangerous you just have to buy a big gage one thats not gonna get hot

as far as cutting the wire and all that i would listen to you guys. if i rewire this into this new gfi it would be identical to the one it came with right?

that's not entirely true. there is limits on what an extension cord can handle safely, especially over distances. i think it's drop off or something i can't remember right now. i know it's not safe.

if it's just a gfci, no.

i don't remember who posted it but with my a/c it is fitted with the type of cord they described with the test function.

i also agree with ak-51. you probably shouldn't be doing this.

i tried doing the same thing you did until the cord for my ballast melted. i finished my grow, and moved (from an old house to an apt.). it scared me knowing i could die during a fire, and risking jail if i didn't burn up. there was no reasonable way to do what i wanted to do where i lived. now i have a better place with an electrical box i could work with, and built something i could take with me when the time came. point being, if you can't do what you want, where you want safely, find somewhere that you can.

if you have a 220v dryer outlet in the apt. you can use that safely to run your room, but if not, you're not doing this safely or responsibly. i vote ya shut it down until you can work out how to get it done the right way. it's worth your life.

edit: since i know you're going to do it anyway, the black wire goes to the gold terminal, white to silver, and green to green.

It's probably part of what was the LCDI. There is nowhere for it to go on the GFCI. Disregard it.

I am not liable if this turns into a catastrophe. I think you're going to do this anyway so I'm just trying to give you the best advice I can.

In my op I just cut off the cord that was going to the dryer recepticle, spliced it (inside a junction box) onto romex 10-3 and ran that all the way around the room, putting Nema 6-15 outlets at 3 points along the way.

I suggest going to the hardware store and buying the largest manual on wiring that they have. Don't get the one that's like a magazine, get the one that's a big book with color pictures throughout. A ton of what you need to know about wiring is in there, they make it very easy to read and understand with plenty of illustrations and it's just a good thing to have on hand.

I think so. If it were me I would probably try to keep the A/C on a separate circuit though.

in the grow room theres a 15 amp outlet the only thing is if i buy a 110v 16,000 btu ac and it trips than i cant switch it to be powered at 220 v. do they sell ac's where you can plug them in at 110 and 220v?

you'll be building a sub panel that's attached to the 220v outlet. read, read, read, and read some more and be sure you can handle it before you do it.

you'd have 4 15a breakers in the sub panel, and the 15 already wired to your outlets in the room. so yes, you can do it with what you already have wired in if you build a sub panel for the lights. you still won't be able to add additional lights without running new lines tho. we're trying to stay away from extension cords. everyone is safer that way.

i have trouble learning from reading books im better at hands on stuff so im hoping youl show me what i need to buy to do this. a friend of mine already did something like this and he said its real easy to do. he said you just have to run some huge thick wire thats 220v compatible and you run that from the dryer room behind the walls then you put in some type of outlet in the room that allows you to plug in a bunch of things at 220v. he said the wire is like $250. the only thing is he lives a few hours away so i dont see him that often so he cant really show me in person or do it for me

electricity is not really a trial and error kind of activity

from what i have read so far you are in over your head already, maybe you should talk your friend into making the drive now to help you out, instead of later to "see you off"

IMHO you might lack the skills to do this job brother. as much as i would like to help, it is not in the Dr. Kavorkian kind of way.

I honestly cant wait for your next thread asking if anyone has a good lawyer!
I just hope you dont hurt someone else is all
