well i dont use a cool tube as of yet but when i get ready i will get me a bakearound tube and make my own cool tube

It depends on what type of socket your bulb needs. My bulb uses a mogul based socket. Some use medium. Then you need to find something that can go around your bulb to force all the air to pass across the bulb in order to cool it. Do some searches, I know that this has been researched many a time and i've found several good things. I just made an octogonal reflector and put a hole in one side with ducting to my exhaust fan. That took the temperature down by about 10-12°F. Search all threads for cool tube or something to that effect. Lots of people have lots of ideas here.

Yeah that was one I found once. See the research has been done. User Name is very good at what he does. I'm sure that cool tube diy would take care of you if you're just running one bulb. Pretty clever design really.

Does someone have a link for diy air cooled hood, cause if I get a bake-a-round or hurricane glass on e-bay it ends up costing me as much as regular cool tube because of postage costs.

not off hand i dont but i made mine out of alum. they use for soffits found a 4 foot roll on the job site it was easy to make and i got a pc fan bulit in the side for air cooling and soon i will hook up my dryer vent to it to better cool the box mine cost me 0 dollars

Hmm, today I've seen a great piece of junk that could be used for a air cooled hood - a piece of industrial air conditionig tunnel, basicaly rectangular tube made out of thin aluminum. I just have to steal that thing and make some modifications. Damn, this just might work!

Hey, Steve, do you have some pics of your hood from different angles?

no but i can try and draw ya a pic of it but its just two triangles for the ends with the top part folded down to mack the ends and i screw it toughter and on the end i cut a small hole tom place the pc fan blowing on the bulb and the other end is my metal gang box to wich i got my base atached to real smiple but i dont use it with this box any more becuse i lossed to much growing space so i am back to my light on a stick with a alum truky pan reflector with a pc fan on the end to cool the bulb check out my gallery for more pics of my lights

Well, I got my air duct, now I just have to carve out a window in it and bend some aluminum for better reflection. The best thing is that the duct is perfect size for 120 mm fan.

Cool. You should also get some glass to cover the window if you can. I heard you can get panes cut at home depot. If you did that and left one end of the duct open, you would have a KILLER air cooled tube. Good luck.

DP, I planned on using a glass cover from the start, I think glass from a picture frame would do the trick. Also, being maniac that I am, I'm probably going to put one intake fan on the hood too.

i am all so thinking of swiching to a flood and drain but cant seem to see how i can do it with out losing head room could be done but would have to re dizen the box make the box higher make a nother compartment under the flowing room to place the biger rez could work but at the same time i cant make it to big or it would look out of place

Yeah it's a sticky situation stever. Maybe you could make a vertical reserveroir that hangs or something. Lol that doesnt' make sense. Just try to think out of the box. Almost anything is possible.

Vlad - I would probably suggest you don't get crazy with the fans. You want a negative air pressure so you ensure that all the air is moving at the same time. At least if your copying this design. Post some pics if you can, we've all screwed up many a time and can help you avoid some future potential issues. I am just using one vortex exhaust fan in my setup which is 175cfm's and it keeps the temp's just perfect. The way it's setup is that it pulls the air from outside the box to both the mother and flower chamber's simultaneously. Then all the air is forced across the bulb in the reflector and sent to the utility room and then out the back wall of the utility room.

I decided to ventilate veg and flower rooms separately, all done wih PC fans (65 cfm for flower, 32 for veg). I'll post some pics as soon as I get my hands on something better than my webcam.

my negative air pressure is so bad i have to pry open the flowing room door lol all i got to do is a ad a hose and i go a vacum cleaner now thats stealth

Lol. Way to be. My vortex fan is almost unnoticible if I don't have any other equipment running. If you have want to change hit up the link in my signature. The price is nearly TOO good. Massive air movement and as quiet as can be for the power it provides.
