I have to do some addition with your figures, @Bababooey . . . turns out I am 72 as of 3:40AM today.
Bonnie and I watch the weather radar to time our pooping. She does not mind a light rain but heavy lightning and thunder are "No Go Times". She goes to pee in the front yard and I stand on the porch to encourage her to "Go pee, Bonnie" as she sniffs and explores the scent trails of critters in her yard.
That good news came across from the local meteorologist about 3:30P on Thursday. That moved us to the west of the dreaded Cone of Uncertainty. There was another wiggle to the east just before landfall that added another 25 miles away from the eye. The big winds and gusts began to build about 10P Thursday. I fell asleep before we lost power. I woke up at 1:30A and sat in the living room with the portable AM/FM radio listening to weather reports. I stepped out onto the front porch in the wind and rain for a short time. The pecan branches were swinging and swaying, and I could not see much beyond the flashlight beam.
It is a beautiful bright sunny morning here with a comfortable 67.5F trmp cooling my bare toes. Thanks, @pop_rocks .
No I do not. Gasoline lasts longer than battery power. When all communication and electricity go down we are in 'camping mode' with a noisy machine outside. I expected to be in the dark for much longer after Helene passed. Michael took 7 days. The generator can run the well and 6 circuits in the house, but not at the same time. The well house is about 100' away from the outside closet where the transfer switch for the house is installed next to the breaker panel. Lugging the gen from Point A to Point B is hard work for my old back, but a hot shower is worth every grunt and strain.

We lost power sometime around 11P Thu. The transfer switch separates the house circuits from the electric grid. It prevents the generator from back feeding the grid and the possibility of injury or death to a lineman. I have surge protectors on all of the electronics and TVs for the just in case moments. Have not had any problems to date with power restoration.
All good here, @shithawks. Thanks for thinking of me while you are in a bad situation. The ringing you may be hearing is probably a wake up call. You have more life to live and we are rooting for your speedy recovery.
I have no idea of the wind speeds here. The sound difference between plywood vs shutters is great. The shutters deaden wind and rain sounds. The wind speeds that are recorded and reported are not based at ground level or on gusts. The readings are taken above treetop level and they record sustained wind speed. The gusty wind bursts coupled with recorded wind speed bring down trees.
The houses that were floating were caused by storm surge along the coast. A hurricane can push a dome of seawater ahead of it. The Big Bend of Florida is sparsely populated and very low level. The curve of the coastline and the direction of Helene combined to make a wall of water that was estimated at 16', perhaps higher in some spots. Many homes are old wood frame construction, but a wall of water can sweep away most homes near the coast. New construction requires elevating the house along with strapping reinforcement between roof and top plate of walls and impact resistant windows.
Hey @Boo I used to live in Indian Rocks Beach and then Fort Myers before moving north. This one had me worried especially the tracks showing up on Thursday morning. A wobble to the east a couple of times spared us the worst.
