Yeah, it was a bloodbath of injuries yesterday. Saquon probably tore his acl, so did nick bosa. I think there’s an easy sideline test to diagnose a torn acl where they move your lower leg around, the MRI just confirms it. McCaffrey also hurt his knee but it’s not season ending, thankfully. The tyrod chest injury thing was weird, supposedly he had to go to the hospital when he had chest pains. Either way, the Herbert era started early and good thing, they almost beat the defending champs. Herbert was getting rave reviews for his accuracy during hard knocks and it’s probably better for all their skill guys if he keeps the starting job. Tyrod is a good locker room guy but man, when he gets on that field he’s not even good anymore; he was alright with the bills and browns but he basically sucks now.

I saw the akers run where he hurt his ribs, hopefully it’s not a multi-week thing but as a RB he’s going to keep getting crunched by multiple defenders so maybe he should sit out for a while. Malcolm brown hurt his finger so Darrell Henderson took over late and looked alright, so far mcvay is running more than passing, goff has looked good with a more balanced offense and Higbee caught 3 td’s so the team is looking back on track. The niners won but losing bosa for the year, and mostert and garappolo for multiple weeks (knee and ankle respectively) maybe puts a damper on their hopes to repeat as division champs. Zona and seahawks are also 2-0 though so we’ll see how the division shakes out.

Masa is a versatile powder but ur right, it’s like bread, it does take some work to make things from scratch, and if you get the percentages off it wont work right.

I think the bears are more lucky than good, they played two pretty bad teams and are lucky to be 2-0. I dont think trubisky is going to be the starter for much longer imo.

they say m.brown has a broken pinkie finger and will be ready for the weekend
akers might be out at least this week but i think brown and henderson can handle the workload
rams go up against a red hot bills team so it should be a great game!
the bears are lucky right now but i think every team can use some luck every now and then
so whats the word around town re: trubs? are people calling for him to sit?
i think as long as they are posting W's then he should be ok
we will see if the chargers start herbert this weekend against the cats
i agree that t.taylors best years are probably behind him but he might be just the guy to mentor a young qb
masa is like biscuit dough in some ways; too wet and it comes out heavy, you want it kind of light and crumbly but still firm enough to hold its shape once its cooked
man, now i want to grab a ball of masa and make some tamales
hope you are having a great week my friend!

so wheres subrob?!?
last night was a huge win for raider nation and carr looked like he had things rolling
i checked out some power rankings and for a team that just knocked off the saints they really arent getting much credit

Darrell Henderson got a decent amount of work last game and is showing why they drafted him last year. So far mcvay is basically going with a committee at RB and it’s working. Ur right though the bills game next week is going to be rough, we’ll see if they’re able to score against them. Also surprisingly josh allen has been one of the best QBs the first 2 weeks so the rams D is going to have to shut him down.

I think most bears fans except the most delusional are over mitch at this point, he’s not going to be the franchise QB so it’s back to the draft or free agency again; foles might be a serviceable starter for a few years, have to see how he does once he gets a chance to play. Mitch is hanging onto that job though, and ur right, so long as the team keeps winning there’s little incentive to switch QBs.

Masa is so versatile but store bought tortillas are so cheap to buy. Making ur own tamales is one good use but even those are readily available pre-made. Im not sure if you have these in socal but they got these cheap ass frozen tamales in the Chicago area, they’re filled with this ground beef mixture that has this off-putting smell to me. A lot of mom and pop fast food shops around here, if they sell tamales, will sell this type of tamale and needless to say, im not a fan. But the handmade ones filled with chicken or cheese or pork, those are great.

Subrob should be happy that his raiders are 2-0, and carr outplayed brees on MNF, but like the bears it might be a mirage. Although it is promising that Carr has played well last year and this year so far, maybe Mariota wont take over his job.

Sounded like tyrod almost had some heart issues before the game, which is definitely weird for someone young and in good shape, but I think lynn has already said Herbert is going to start week 3. He was the 3rd QB drafted after burrow and tua, and he’s on a better team than those guys, and showed some athleticism running for a TD last week. He’s bigger and stronger than those guys too, he could have been a top pick if he left college early so he’s got all the measurables. Even if he ends up getting beat up early in his career he'll probably endure it better than tua and burrow.

yeah, when i heard it was a heart thing i was kind of surprised; like you said, t.tlyr is a young guy in amazing shape, but we dont know his family history
/some people just seem to have a predisposition to heart problems
the chargers should do pretty well against a carolina panthers team thats lost its fangs and so maybe they should just run with hebert
we will see how trubinski does this season
thats a tough position to be in witha qb that is ust good enough
you dont really move up or down in the standings from year to year; at least if he sucked you would get a nice fat pick someday
im looking forward to the rams bills mach up this weekend!
/if it wasnt for the chiefs v ravens, i would say that that was my game of the week
josh allen is having a monster start and the bills have a good team on both sides of the ball
allen has seem to be able to avoid being sacked but the rams defense is a step up from what he has seen so far
rams are playing a good offense, taking a lot of the pressure off goffs shoulders with the run game but he is also making some good throws
i think the rams defense will need to take control and things could come down to a turn over or something like that
a few other good games too, bears take on a slumping atl and my game of the weekII: ravens v chiefs
but what about them raidaaazzs? can the pull off another big win against cam and the patriots? will the real david carr please step up
you are right about how easy it is to get good tortillas
costco even has these ones where you only have to heat them up for a few minutes in a hot pan and they taste as good as fresh, but they only have them in flour kind
i used to love tamales! remember those hormel ones that came in a can, i would eat those (more tex mex style but still grinding at 2am)
some of the best would come from some guy who used to park near where i worked once a week
we will but them pre made sometimes, with things like chicken, beef or the mrs like the ones with chili and cheese

Huh, turns out tyrod got his lung accidentally pierced by the chargers team doc while getting a pain injection for his ribs. That definitely sounds like malpractice but I don’t think players can sue team docs, they sign waivers or something before treatment.
I knew lots of players get pain shots (Toradol or something) before games so they can play but I always figured it was an injection into a vein, not one into the site of the injury/pain. Sucks for tyrod but he was pretty bad vs a not good defense in the bengals, so overall the chargers are better off with Herbert starting.
Ur right the panthers are looking pretty bad this season, the run D is even worse than cincy’s and now mccaffrey is out for at least a month with a high ankle sprain. But at least all the terrible teams this year can look forward to drafting trevor Lawrence next year. Except the bears, ur right, theyre not good but not bad enough to get the #1 draft pick. Ah well, we’ll see how they do, mitch isn’t crappy all the time and foles could still do something.

Rams have been one of the most run heavy teams so far, I think mcvay is taking a page from the shanahan playbook and trying to establish the run to set up the pass. So far Goff is looking way better than wentz this year, eagles are 0-2 and their fans are worried that giving him that big contract may have been a mistake.

I would like ravens-chiefs on MNF to be a high scoring affair like rams-chiefs a couple years ago but I think the ravens D is too good for that. But ur right, theyre the 2 best QBs in the league right now so very intriguing matchup.

I prefer flour tortillas, I guess it’s more ‘americanized’ than corn, but corn is good too. I guess if you have all purpose flour instead of masa making flour tortillas would be easy. Ive seen those Hormel tamales but haven’t had them in years, their chili is good though and I agree, tamales with chili and cheese are great.

those hormel tamales in a can are an abomination but man are they good, i used to eat them with fritos and salsa when i was younger
/did i mention i was drunk?
depending on what im eating i enjoy both the flour and corn tortilla
burritos are always flour but i usually get corn when im making tacos
rolled tacos and enchiladas are a grey area where i can grind both types and be happy
/i think a rolled taco made with flour tortilla is called a flauta
good read on mcvay using the run to set up the pass
when you can move the ball on the ground it will open up things down the field and the rams have a decent receiver group
i know how the eagles fans feel and thought the same thing about goff in the past
so far he is off to a good start this year, but more importantly he looks like he is taking a step forward as a qb
with bosa out and the 9rs hobbled for the next few weeks, i think this could leave the nfc west wide open
ravens have a great defense and i am a huge fan of lamar the star, but you know i am also going to root for my man mahommie to put up a win no matter what he has to do
its no secret that i am also a big fan of andy reid and there is no mask that can hold back that bbq rib fueled fire he breathes with every play call
its going to be a great game my man!

Most canned foods are a poor imitation of the fresh or homemade stuff but the convenience of being shelf stable (can keep it in your pantry for years, can take it on a camping trip) helps make up for it. Also, if I was drunk enough I’d eat a shoe with fritos and salsa and be satisfied.

I agree with you, flour for burritos and corn for tacos, both grains have their place which is why Mexican/central American cooking is so beautiful.

Both LA teams, chargers and rams, have been the most run heavy this year. Josh Kelley, the rookie RB on the chargers, has as many carries as ekelar. I guess they wanted to grind out the clock and play keep away from mahomes, they almost beat the chiefs too so maybe the ravens, with an even better run game, will do something similar.

Wentz has legit been worse than trubisky this year, it’s been odd since usually he’s pretty good. But it’s still only been 2 weeks, and like u said goff was pretty inefficient last year but is looking good this year. Having a better defense and O-line does wonders for ur QB.

I think reid is using an anti fog wipe on his face shield, same thing hockey players use. Most coaches seem to be using neck gaiters during games, a few got fined big time for not keeping them on. I think mcvay admitted he’s one of the offenders, I can see why he was very talkative during practices on hard knocks and doesn’t he call plays and coverages to goff during games? If youre constantly talking it’s hard to do it with something covering your mouth. I thought he was going to go with a face shield like reid but during games he’s got a black face mask instead.

there were a bunch of fines handed down by the league last week for not wearing maskes
we will see how long this goes on for, but the fines were pretty steep
you would think the coaches would get used to it and even reap the benifits of wearing a face covering; remember how they used to use the play sheet to cover their mouths when calling in plays so the other team could not read their lips?
fitzmagic played like a man who wanted to keep his job last night and looks good against a jax team
they also had a rookie rb who looked really nice (he could run and catch) and i would like to see him play a little more
the bills is going to be the toughest rams game yet, but its going to be fun!
im not a big fan of wentz and we will see how he plays going forward
unless he really lights it up the rest of the season i would be reluctant to give him a fat contract
i tihnk there are a few qb around the league who have a lot to prove this season and wentz is one of them
got any plans of the weekend? hoping to get out and do some nice hiking this weekend and cant wait for the action on sunday!
rams game starts nice and early so its going to be a full day of football!

Those Hormel tomales are kinda gross.ive eaten the things and will probably eat them again but I hope that's not what real tomales taste like. And Gale Sayers died.that sucks.i saw him a couple years ago on a sports interview and he looked good.

Yeah, I think the coaches got fined 100k and their teams 250k for mask violations, so it was pretty serious.
They still have their big laminated playsheets to hide their lips but I think when youre talking a lot, more than a few words, it can be hard to make out what youre saying with a mask on. I thought mcvay would use a plastic face shield like reid, with an anti fog spray he should be ok, we’ll see if he goes to it, it’s not like these teams cant afford whatever PPE gear he wants.

I actually won a championship playing fitzmagic the last month of the season, not bad for a waiver wire pickup. I was a duntz and traded away lamar Jackson the first month, but had dak and josh allen who filled in nicely, and then fitzmagic down the stretch. I agree with you, he’s playing well for a journeyman 37yr old ‘mentor’ qb, sacrificing his body (he actually led the fins in rushing last season). If trubisky could have a career as good as his, that would be nice.

It’s weird, wentz was going to win mvp in his 2nd season before going down in week 13 with a torn acl, then was inconsistent coming back, last year he was mostly good with what he had to work with, he was the 1st qb to throw for 4k yards with no WR having even 500yds. Also, did u know the bears have never had one qb have a 4k yard season? Yeah, sux.
He and goff signed their big deals a year ago, and like goff the eagles cant really get rid of him for a couple years yet or else the cap hit would be ridiculous, like 60M+. He’s more athletic than goff so probably can bounce back even with a crap OL but not if his accuracy remains this bad. Maybe there’s something physically wrong with him?

It’s definitely been cooler here lately has it been cooler in socal? The parts that aren’t burning that is…

you can definitely feel fall in the air
the weather is nice and we go for these walks after the sun goes down
now the air gets that crispness to it and its starting to get a bit colder at night
/soon im going to start wearing a hoddy or long sleeve with the shorts and you know where it goes from there
i hear there might be some changes in the sideline rules for ppe, but we will see
its a big deal for the public i guess
/at least thats what a friend said
like how can you ask the general public to mask up but then these guys go without?!
i think they are tested so much that if they had covid they wouldent even be on the sidelines in the first place, so maybe we can let some thing slide
allen is having a great year and has a good bunch of decent receivers around him
j'ram is going to have his hands full and the rest of the defense will need to step it up against the bills
wents seemed to be the real deal at first and i thought he was a little better than goff
/like you said much more athletic
but after his injury he never really came back and its been up and down
i remember you trading away lamar last season but it sounds like you did pretty good overall
cant wait to see him play later this weekend
i think the chiefs/ravens is going to be a high scoring game
get your can opener out man! its going to be a great weekend of football

Oh crap hawk, didn’t even see ur post. Now im going to have to try those Hormel tamales. Im sure ive eaten worse stuff. Plus at least they come with a sauce in the can that can cover up the taste if you don’t like the spices they use in the filling.
Making ur own tamales is much more labor intensive but once you have everything set up you can probably roll a hundred of them in an hour if you have help. I might have to try making it sometime just for kicks. With some sour cream and verde salsa it’d make a nice meal.

Must be nice that it’s cooling down, you mentioned a heat wave recently, we’ve had a pretty hot summer here too so the cooler weather is welcome. Not looking forward to the snow and ice though.
Im trying to remember but you favor track suits in the winter?

The coaches and players get tested multiple times a week, I would think if anyone could be mask free it’s them, but I guess the league just wants the players to be mask free. Speaking of which I haven’t seen those covid face shields for the helmet until TNF jags-fins, a punt returner was wearing one, and it wasn’t even covering his upper face just his lower face.

Rams-bills should be one of the best games of the week, hopefully it’s a close one so we know theyre both contenders and not pretenders.

Yeah, wentz tore his knee up and then broke his back the next year so maybe he’s a little gunshy from the injuries, would rather throw a hurried pass than stand tall and get hit. His mechanics might be messed up too, could be from the skittishness or just not being coached up enough.
That’d be great if chiefs ravens is high scoring, ravens D is stout but if anyone could put up 40 on them it’s the chiefs.

If you dress them up enough those tamales aren't that bad.i was drunk too when I ate a whole can and had massive heartburn.now I want the damn things.im craving Mexican food.dont they steam tamales in corn husks?

yes, traditionally they steam them in corn husks
ive also had tamales made in a jar (guess its a southern thing) and ones made in banana leaf
fresh tamales are super good and they have a ton of fillings options
/one popular flavor is pena; pineapple filled tamale, its kind of sweet and i dident like it
do you have a place you like to go for mexican food hawk?

i saw that too baba', the player with a vented face shield
i thought it was supposed to be part of the uniform but i guess not
it looks like the heat is back on and its going to get warmer for the next few days into next week
its nice thoe because this time of year it gets hot in the day but cools off really quick at night
yeah brother! i rock the track suits during the winters and when it gets really cold i put on thermals under the track suit
me and the mrs even have matching track suits
i can stay super warm this way but not look like im all bulked up in layers
a lot of good games this weekend and i cant wait for the action to begin
luckily the rams game is at 10a
i will need to get into better game shape to be ready for the 1p west coast starts and pace my day drinking

Agreed, even gross tamales, if you throw enough chili and cheese on it can make them edible. Although at that point maybe youre better off just eating the chili and cheese.

Yeah, making tamales is a process. Have to make the filling beforehand, if it’s chicken u have to cook it first since the steaming isnt enough to cook raw meat filling. Mix up the masa flour with water, get the consistency right. Have a bunch of banana leaves (available at Mexican groceries, there might be synthetic ones available oneline?) and then spread some masa inside a leaf, dump some filling in, and then wrap/roll it up and tie it off to keep its shape. Then into a steamer till the masa is fully cooked, if you don’t have a steamer pot they make metal inserts to be used with regular pots, or even just use tin foil balls, just need to keep the tamales out of the boiling water.
So it takes some work but you can make a lot at a time, I think they keep well in the fridge or freezer.
But yeah, much easier to open up a can, dump into bowl, nuke for a couple mins, and then tuck in.

Is the track suit your ‘at-home’ outfit or do you typically change when going out?

Games start soon, 2-0 bears face the 0-2 falcons. Watching bears games usually aren’t that fun but maybe this will be entertaining…

Yeah, I had given up but give credit to foles, no wonder they call him big dick nick. Im sure he’ll have his bad games too but he’s clearly a superior passer to mitch.

Falcons might fire dan quinn after giving up 2 big leads like that. I thought he’d get fired last season after starting 1-7 but they managed to go 6-2 the rest of the way after quinn gave up defensive play calling duties. I thought they’d be competitive with the bucs and saints but 0-3 with 2 bad losses in a row, maybe it’s time to move on and find the next great coach, or try to at least.

I felt bad for cohen too, especially getting hurt so late in the game like that, but at least he got paid last week, 15M over 3 yrs, 10M guaranteed. By the time he’s due for another extension, in 2 years, he should be fully recovered from the acl and ready to get another deal. So, it could have been a lot worse, if he got hurt without getting that contract earlier.

what a great weekend of games
man, i thought the rams were goign to come back against the bills
i wont get into bad calls costing teams games but i that was a close one
the rams defense played pretty well but the one thing i kept thinking was the rams need someone on offense to step up
there is no question about the leader on D and who the stars are, but on offense, the rams seem to have a great supporting cast but no real star
j.allen is on fire and looked great against one of the top defenses in the nfl
last night the chiefs took over early and mahommes looked great
im really enjoying the no crowd noise and getting to hear the calls at the line
i also noticed that the bills had this train noise they would play from time to time to keep things fired up
i kinf of liked it and wish every team would have some kind of sound effect they could play
/remember the panthers used to have this cat growl
bears sat trubs and big nokc foles banged out a win, looks like it ,ight be the end of the trubinski era in chicago
so it looks like two teams are taking the week off because of a possible covid episode
the titans have had a few players and staff test positive for covid after playing the vikings and are suspending their football activities until they can retest
hope this is only a bump in the season and both teams are cleared to play this weekend
what a great week 3!
