not really a fan of kaep, but its more like you said he is pretty happy just doing what he do
i thin he is a mid level qb at best, especially now that he has been out of the game for so long
he comes with a lot of baggage and i dont think most teams want any part of his agenda
plus they are already up to their eyes in problems with this whole covid thing
/did you hear about the seatle rookie who got caught trying to sneak a girl into the team hotel?
i think any college records this year will come with the asterisk*
its just not fair to look at this year like you would any other
the rouladen actually isnt that hard and you could bang it out no problem
the hardest part i thought was pounding out the steak, but once you get a nice flat piece of meat, just smooth the filling on and then roll it up
you want to tie the meat up while it cooks so i lay out my string before hand but you could also just wind it up from here and be good to go
i say about 20m prep time and it takes about an hour or so to cook and settle
keep it in mind for the holidays

Kaep certainly isn’t all that talent-wise, he won big in SF with a great D, run game and good receiving talent (boldin, crabtree, Vernon davis) but pretty much any decent QB can win under those conditions (Dalton, eli, tyrod). But as a bears fan, I wouldn’t mind seeing him on the team. Trubisky might not be even decent, Foles is up and down and injury-prone, at least Kaepernick would be an intriguing third option.
But u have a point, he may bring some drama. Not just the kneeling stuff, but when the NFL set up a workout for him last year, he changed it at the last minute because he didn’t like the setup or something. It screwed a lot of scouts who came to see him since the alternate place wasn’t close. It reeked of diva behavior, from a guy who’s not an elite talent to begin with.

Yeah, I heard that hawks rookie dressed up the lady as a player so she could sneak in. Im guessing she got caught because she was way smaller than 6ft and 200lbs. Like, even the short guys on the team are built like tanks, if this woman was like 120lbs or less she’d have to wear pads to look that wide.

I was supposed to pound out some chicken breasts a while back but just ended up cooking them along with a bunch of thighs and a couple whole chickens in the oven. I guess im in a phase where im just cooking up a bunch of meat at one time, as fast and easy as I can make it. Sigh. I was I was less lazy about cooking, and sometimes I am, but after you do so much of it im like ugh… That rouladen does sound like something that’d be good to make for the holidays though.

whats happening baba'? hope your weekend if off to a great start
its been hot the past few days and it feels like freaking honolulu outside
over night lows are in the high 60s and it was like almost 90* yesterday with a ton of humidity
its nice at night when the sun goes down but it gets hot lioke hell during the day
i would take c.newton over kaep any day; an identical skill set and he is bigger, stronger
/not to mention the drama
my friend was saying the same thing about the kid who tried to sneak a girl into the team facilities
how can you dress up any woman to look like a football player? sounds like one of those eddie murphy things
man, you really throw down in the kitchen!
baked thighs and a couple whole chickens is a ton of food
how long will a couple whole chickens last? do you portion it out for the week
it would be nice to have some good protein around and then just dress it up as you go to keep things interesting
/my favs are chicken tacos and chicken salad
whats one the menu for this weekend?

Yeah, august is generally one of the hottest months. I thought it would be a bit cooler, July was awful hot, but august, besides a couple of days in the 70s, has been consistently 85+ with high humidity. So about the same. Hopefully by the time your camping trip comes around it’ll be in the high 70s or lower.

I hear cam is doing well with the patriots, everyone likes him, he’s a natural born leader. But Stidham is competing for the starting job so he might not actually start week 1. With no preseason action it’s really hard to figure out how rosters shake out before the season starts.

Im guessing maybe the girl he snuck in had on helmet and pads, to hide her face and figure? But that’d be weird, it’s like why r u wearing that in the hotel? I don’t even think they’ve started padded practices yet. Or maybe she’s tall for a girl (5 10 or up) and was wearing an oversized jersey and baseball cap, then maybe she could pass for a skinny player.

I do tend to make a ton of meat all at once so I don’t have to make it again for at least a week or so, then I use that meat for dishes throughout the week. With the dogs I can go through a whole chicken in like 3 days?
I grilled a bunch of beef this past weekend, had on a beautiful brisket that I had to restart the fire on, but I neglected it and came back to it on fire. Crap! Ah well, live and learn. I’ll post pics when I get the chance…

pics of the fire?!? :)
ive made that mistake before brother; left meat unattended on the grill for just a second and came back to a mess
it especially sucks when its a nice cut
do you share your chicken with the dogs? i know a lady at work who buys a whole rotisserie chicken every week and portions it out for her dog
/its a small dog but still, pup is eating fresh chicken every night of the week
i used to feed ukie people food all the time and she loved it
we checked the forecast and it says the heat will be with us the rest of the week and into next week
i have these usb fans im going to bring along but otherwise we are just going to soak up the heat
/i still am hoping we get some t'storms in the mountains
im totally going to miss the preseason action
even if you know a guy can play, (like cam) it would be cool to see him working in a new system
plus the younger players who are fighting for a spot on the roster can use that time to shine
that would have been hilarious if he had dressed up the girl in full pads and kit
she could even speak in a deep voice when questioned why is she the only one wearing the game day uniform at the hotel
/"just geeked up for the game, boss" in my best manly voice
hope you are having a great weekend my man! stay cool brother

I mostly feed the (smaller) bones and fat/gristle to my dogs, but one of them has a heart condition and has been on meds and lost most of her appetite, she only eats snacks and meat and some bones nowadays. Still, a little meat goes a long way, and some of the premium dog foods are pretty darn expensive, so getting a $5 rotisserie chicken (maybe mixing it with rice or something) once a week isn’t more expensive than buying a $30 bag of dog food, although it is more work.

Yeah I heard the west was having a heat wave now, overall all it’s been a pretty hot summer this year, way worse than last year I think. Well, it’s mid august so hopefully it’s almost over…

The lack of preseason action is really going to mess up people’s fantasy drafts this year. New guys like Cam (pats), the rookie RB’s on the rams, chiefs, colts and ravens, theyre going to be hard to figure out if theyre starter material from the get go without seeing them play first. Hopefully practice reports settle things out (who gets the most 1st team reps, etc).

Yeah, there’s so much uncertainty with what happened trying to pass a female as an NFL player, at this level these guys don’t even resemble regular dudes much less women. Makes you wonder what he was thinking. A lot of people are saying he was an idiot for trying this, undrafted rookie trying to hang onto the team. Like, an actual star player would not have been cut, but undrafted rookie with 2k signing bonus? BYE. And take Felicia with you!

I took pics of the cooking before it caught fire, it was looking beautiful. Ah well, we managed to save the insides and feed it to the pups, so they enjoyed it at least…

i bet the pics look great
its an honest mistake and has happened to all of us
you are right that a whole chicken and a few cups rice would totally be enough to feed a dog for a week; you could even boil the bones to make a broth and use that to cook your rice
that sucks that one of your dogs has a condition and has lost her appetite for regular food
treats and some scraps are easy to come by and im sure she enjoys what she does eat
i was reading pk's latest on pft and he has this piece about the tompa bay bucs
i would totally be watching them in preseason, plus like you said checking out individual players (c.akyers)
i just dont feel like im getting the full picture when i read kings account of the bucs practice
plus i like to watch the games myself
it looks like covid numbers are stabilizing here in california so hopefully things are getting better
the mrs was just saying how it was actually a mild summer and then bam! we get this crazy heat
plus there are all these wild fires being intentionally set in california
/they might have a fire ban in place next week when we go camping
hope your week is off to a great start and you are keeping cool

Yeah, the woman knows this one guy who feeds his king Charles spaniels nothing but avocado and chicken. Im thinking that’s a more expensive diet than many people! But rice is one of the cheapest grains you can get, and some of these designer dog foods, even the dry foods, are hella expensive. If you could feed ur dog(s) chicken and rice for $1/day, that’s probably as cheap as feeding them blue buffalo or some other expensive brand of kibble. Although you'd probably have to supplement with dog vitamins too.

Im just glad we’ll have pro football back, even without preseason. Hopefully the rosters don’t get devastated by any covid outbreaks like some of the mlb teams.

Saw some of the first hard knocks episode recently, the one where they’re following the rams and chargers. Lot of it was on the covid precautions: masks, temp checks, nasal swabs, social distancing. You’d see 6 players in a big conference room that could seat 50+, all sitting apart from each other.
Saw Mcvay and his hilltop home and his smoking hot fiancé. Good for him. His coaching style and look reminds me of a young gruden, very talkative, loud, intense, always coaching, always yapping, always trying to be encouraging. Gruden was the wunderkind of his day, I can see why mcvay is considered the same.
Lynn is older, more laid back, but no less committed. It was funny, they cut some TE from their roster who started throwing out some f-bombs, this is bullshit!, etc etc. The kid apologized though but lynn said he appreciated his intensity.
I might actually watch the whole season of hard knocks, I think it’s cool theyre following 2 teams this year, that way you don’t get bored just watching the same guys all the time.

Who the heck is setting forest fires intentionally? Didn’t they charge some dude years ago for arson, think he turned out to be a firefighter too? Think some people died in that fire so maybe he caught some murder charges too?

you are right about how some of these fancy dog foods cost as much as people food
dogs love chicken and would totally hunt bird/fowl in the wild
its so funny you mention avocados, because i was at a friend house the other day and he has a tons of avocado trees
his dogs loved eating them right off the ground!
im keeping my fingers crossed and hoping we get to see some football this year
hopefully things are getting better and we turn the corner on this covid thing
is hard knocks on hbo? that sounds like it might be fun to watch
two teams would def be a more interesting series to watch as you can compare and contrast the different coaching styles
/plus both lynn and mcvay are up and coming coaches
cargers are already having contract problems after signing bosa to all the monies!
/now melvin ingram is unhappy with his pay and is sort of but not really holding out
did you ever check out the derry girls on netflix?

Bababooey

Yeah, retrievers are great for chasing down ducks during a duck hunt, and one time we saw a wild turkey (in a Chicago park no less) and my dogs chased it under a willow tree. They didn’t attack it even though the turkey was cornered in its nest at the base of the tree, but it was scared witless for sure.
Dang, avocado trees. I guess ur friend never has to buy avocados or guacamole ever, huh? Well, unless his aren’t in season, which is probably most of the time. My dogs don’t like veggies, but avocados are supposedly good fat so I imagine they’d be pretty healthy for dogs who eat them.

Hard knocks is an hbo program, if u have tmobile you might get hbo max for free, otherwise I download mine using bitt torrent programs. I downloaded that Derry girls program but haven’t gotten around to watching it, the woman is still hooked on Money Heist, which is a Spanish tv program on how this group of criminals take over the Spanish mint and print a bunch of Eurodollars and get away with it. It’s been pretty popular on Netflix, and from what ive seen it does a good job of leaving every episode on a cliffhanger. Derry girls is next though.

The first episode showed joey bosa signing his contract, he got teary eyed at the end when he spoke of his father being so proud of him (his dad was a 1st rd nfl pick too). Then he went to practice and his teammates were happy for him, but of course his mates were making things awkward for him talking about what he should buy now, a house, a boat etc. Joey said he’ll name his boat “Double Swim”, for his signature move. Melvin was teasing him, saying his boat should have 2 of everything, 2 engines, 2 steering wheels, etc.

So Melvin is due 14M this year but none of it’s guaranteed until week 1, so he’s at camp, attending workouts and meetings but not actually practicing. I guess it’s smart, if he tears something in a drill or practice the team can cut him and pay him nothing. Starting week 1 he gets injured in a game he’ll still get all his money, but until then all the risk is on him.
I can see why he’d be jealous that bosa is going to make almost double what hes making, but in 8 years he’s only had two double digit sack seasons (both 10.5 sacks) and bosa has had 3 such seasons in 4 years, the only season he didn’t he missed more than half the season. So Melvin should get paid more but maybe not even 20M/yr on his next deal. Jadeveon clowney wanted 20+, and turned down several 15M+ per year offers, and is still unsigned. Hopefully Melvin is more realistic about his value. Very good player, even great at times, but not elite (top 5-8) at his position…

So a couple weeks ago the club had a bunch of prime beef on sale. I rarely see prime beef at sams, it’s more common at Costco but it’s more expensive there too, and this time I could get prime brisket for less than $3lb and prime tenderloin for $12lb. So I snagged one of each even though I didn’t fancy the idea of spending almost $150 on meat, but I figured this stuff if bought at a restaurant would cost me 300+ easy.

Sliced up the tenderloin into some nice thick steaks.

picture.php

They turned out well, made sure they weren’t too charred or too raw. Stirred the coals, turned the heat down and put the brisket on; in the morning it looked like this but the fire had almost gone out, temp was down to 160F.

picture.php

So left the lid up to get more air to the coals, thought it would take a while to get going but completely forgot about it while taking care of other stuff, came back in 40mins to the damn thing literally on fire. $60 piece of meat burnt on the outside, bloody red on the inside. Managed to cut off most of the ash, and saved the insides for the dogs, but yeah, big screwup on my part. Live and learn I guess…

that pic on the grill must be before the flare up, it dosent look half bad and itsounds like the dogs will be eating good for a few days at least
i do the same thing when i buy most of my meats, i buy those big cryo packs and then cut them down into individual steaks/ roasts
i will then double wrap a few and throw them into the freezer and then cook up the rest
these arent just regular avocados he grows but a few fancy varieties, i cant recall the names off hand
me and the mrs love going to his house because he has these super cool dogs that we have known since they were puppies
they are bigger now but still act like kids
i will have to check out the hard knocks if i can
we dont have cable tv but i might be able to find it online
the bosa brothers have quite the football pedigree and have a very colorful family history
/ever hear of a mafioso named joey bats?
but you are right about how they are top tier defensive players and are going to be making big money for years to come
im a big fan of melvin ingram but like you said, hes more a second tier star
he definitely disrupts opposing offenses, but isnt the game changer bosa is
i see now why he is not trying to get hurt before the season starts, why risk losing everything just to impress your coaches in practice
there was a piece on pft this morning about how the ravens might be interested in signing dez
that and the usual tom brady in tampa stuff; tampa hot, gronk get sweaty in heat

Heh, yeah, that pic was before it got burned. Even a properly cooked brisket is going to look all black, but that’s the bark, not actual ash or burned meat.
I really should have done what you suggested and cut the meat up and saved half for later. Even the brisket I could have just cooked half, would have cooked faster too if it was smaller.

Was joey bats in that scorcese movie, Casino? I remember a couple dudes getting beat to death with bats in that movie.

Gerald mccoy tore a quad tendon for the cowboys last week, needed surgery and will out for the year. The cowboys cut him recently to save 3.5M on their cap, think his only guarantee was 1.5M this year. He tore it during a practice drill, so yeah, it’s smart that ingram is sitting out of the practice, he ends up like mccoy it’s bye bye 14M.

Is Dez still a thing? He’s been out of football for what, 2-3 years now? He wasn’t that great before he got cut by the cowboys, can’t imagine he’s getting better with age. But I suppose if your team is needy enough at receiver… Jets need depth at receiver maybe they should give him a look.

I can only imagine how hot florida is during august. Does Tampa usually have training camp in a cooler area, like how the cowboys usually open training camp in Cali (in the mountains or highlands) to avoid that TX heat? I guess with covid everyone has to train at home base…

i might have gotten the name wrong but its true that joey and nick bosa are related to alleged mafioso

https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2016/4/18/11454086/joey-bosa-great-grandfather-mob-boss-chicago-al-capone

pk has been following the bucs training camp pretty extensively and it looks like they practice in tampa bay
dont the cowboys also have that inflatable dome they practice under?
ive seen shots of them practicing in like a giant tent that is most likely cooled in some way
i thought dez was done too but there was an article about l.jackson hyping him up and saying he would be a great addition to the ravens
he also said he would like to see ab' sign with th team after trowing to him a few times over the off season
its smart for ingram to hold back during the preseason like you mentioned so he can cash that years check
we will see if he is just sitting on the side lines or will he actually try holding out for more money
/up next will be derwin james
yeah, that brisket looked pretty good and it sucks that it dident turn out how you wanted it to
we all make mistakes and you just move on and try better the next time
stay cool brother, its getting ass kicking hot out there!

Heh, that’s pretty cool the bosa’s have a connection to al Capone. I mean, I guess it’s as cool as having a connection to a crime lord who killed lots of people could be?

Yeah, I think the inflatable dome is a common thing sports teams use to set up facilities, in some cases it’s even semi-permanent. Some college teams use them for years until they get enough funds to build an actual practice facility. I know the cowboys always started camp in California before finishing up in TX. Maybe it’s not for heat reasons, maybe it’s to let fans in Cali check out camp? Not sure, it is weird they would go out of state. The bears do training camp in central IL, players stay in some college dorms out there. Guess it gives their rural fans a chance to see the players.

I think Dez’s last action was he signed with the saints 2 seasons ago in the middle of the season, but he suffered a season ending injury in the first week of practice. He was out of football last year, maybe he was still recovering. Hopefully if he signs with a team he makes it to an actual game. He’s strong, has good size and good hands, even if hes not as fast anymore.

Antonio brown is suspended for the first 8 games of the season, if he signs with a team this year. It’ll be interesting to see who takes a chance on him, hopefully he’s past the knucklehead behavior, starts paying the people he’s supposed to pay and stop getting into fights over money. He’s cost himself probably 25M for losing last season and half this season to bizarre behavior.

I think once the regular season starts ingram will play the whole season, giving up 850K/week isn’t something anyone should do, and he’ll need to ball out this year if he wants a fat contract (from the bolts or someone else) in free agency.

Yeah, it was frustrating the fire went out, and then when restarting it it burned everything. Still have to master the fire if I want to be a grill master!

i thought the bosas history was cool too and its part of chicagos colorful history
the chargers used to practice close to ucsd here in san diego and it was neat to go and check out practices
its right on the ocean so the temps are usually pretty mild
i wonder why dallas would travel out to california to practice too, unless it was a way for the to get in some practice with other teams here
im not too sure about brown and i wonder if anyone will be willing to take a chance on him?
in addition to his odd ball behavior off the field, he seems like he could be difficult to work with and might disrupt the locker room chemistry
hopefully he has gotten himself together because when he was on he was one of the best
i think the grill is one of those things you spend a life time mastering; especially when you like to cook a variety of things
ribs and briskette are way different than just searing a steak or browning up some dogs
but everything tastes better off the grill so its a journey thats worth every bite

Yeah, one of the things Chicago is most famous for is al Capone. Like people in other countries don’t know a thing about Chicago but do know about Capone. I guess it’s like medellin, Columbia, being known for pablo escobar. He was the biggest crimelord of his day too, and did a lot of good for people I suppose, but if you crossed these guys you were sure to end up dead. But I guess even the kennedy’s got their start in bootlegging and crime, and now theyre respectable.

The cowboys have spent the last 15 years in Oxnard (north of LA) for training camp, ur right it’s much cooler at the ocean (60s – 70s). It is weird they would travel so far but to get out of the Texas heat you have to get out of the state. But do other teams in hot weather states (Texans, bucs jags fins etc) normally travel out of state for camp? I know all mlb teams go to Arizona or florida for camp cause it’s march and that’s a no go in northern states.

Yeah, AB got into it with Roethlisberger and juju before and after he got traded, got into it with his GM with the raiders, was ok on the Pats but was only with them a week. Whichever team signs up has to hope he’s so grateful to be back in the league that he remains on his best behavior.

I did take one of your cooking tips and bought some green and red bell peppers a couple week ago, and have been using them in omelets and once in a spaghetti sauce. Really good decision there, for $3 they keep for weeks in the fridge and add lots of flavor and texture to dishes!

capone is totally a part of american history ; those were crazy times and some fortunes were made by a lot of people
but the underworld part is really interesting
/great point about the kennedy connection
so whats up with et?!
fighting with team mates and kicking up sand; so bad the raven cut him
i think its a personal problem so it wont be an issue and i hope the rams pick him up
/if nothing else, to prevent the 9'rs from grabbin him
im keeping my fingers crossed and hoping we get to see some football!
it would bet like what, three weeks until the season begins?
right on, thats great that you got some peppers
when you have them on hand you use them and like you said they add a lot to things
they have a good fresh taste plus they bring that crunch
grind on my man and enjoy every bite!

Yeah, I think even trumps great great grandpa was into the fur trade and prostitution back in the frontier days, or something like that. Kind of interesting how some families made their fortune in crime or less than desirable industries but then became legit over time. I wonder if capone’s descendants, if he has any, are involved in legit businesses?

Yeah, earl Thomas has been wildin’ out lately. This past offseason his wife got arrested cause she caught ET and his brother in a 3some with some woman, and threatened everyone with a gun. And now he’s missing meetings, starting fights with teammates. It was the ravens players themselves who wanted his ass gone. He’s from Texas so I think he’s always wanted to play for the cowboys, not sure if even jerruh can control him at this point though…

Yeah, I liked the peppers so much that I picked up some more from sams, already used them in some sandwiches I made. It’s good stuff to have on hand and they don’t go bad too fast.

First game of the season is chiefs vs Texans on Thursday night, Sep 10, then Sunday games, then two MNF games, including cowboys at rams. Bears play vs lions on Sunday, not sure how important that game will be, but I guess we’ll know by then if foles has taken trubisky’s job.

have you guys had your fantasy football draft yet?
this season is all over the place so far and we havent even gotten off the ground yet
its always good to start the season against a division rival ; hopefully you can start the season off on the right foot
so how does the qb competition look right now? have they said much about who they think will be under center on opening day
thanks for the extra info on e.thomas
the ravens are a definite playoff contender and i dident know he was that disruptive in the locker room
im sure al capone has a lot of descendants but they might have changed their names
while its a great piece of americana, i can also see how it could be like two strikes against you in some peoples eyes
if nothing else, you are walking in a pretty big shadow and that could both help and hurt you
i chopped up a bunch of bell peppers and onions for todays sandwiches
i still have some left over and might toss them in with some thin sliced beef and make cheese steaks
/the meat is bulgogi so they would be korean beefsteaks!
thats great that you are into them and its an easy way to sneak some veggies into your diet
i also like to add them to any pasta sauce i make as well as my chicken salads
i have a few that are getting a little soft and im going to stuff them with ground meat, bread crumbs and cheese
hope your week is off to a great start brother!

I have my fantasy drafts starting Sep 5, so pretty late but by then we should know who’s in or who’s out on the season (got injured during camp, etc).
Packers play the Vikings week 1, that should be a good matchup, both are expected to be playoff teams.
I haven’t heard too much one way or another on the QB battle in camp, but I haven’t really been keeping track also. Mitch has the inside track, he’s been with the team 3 years, same coach for 2 years, but obviously he’s flawed.

Heh, yeah, I haven’t really seen any people with the last name of Capone around this area, I’d imagine it’s like if you had the last name of hitler, you know you would want to change that right quick.

I used to buy that bulgogi meat for making Italian beef, it was ribeye sliced thin and I’d layer giardiniera between the meat and slow cook it, made some really good IB sandwiches.

Yeah, im starting to see the benefits of having different sorts of veggies on hand for cooking, and not just bags of salad. It’s just good stuff and adds an extra dimension to homemade dishes.

There was a police shooting in Kenosha, which is in WI just across the border of IL. Lots of rioting and fires there, im starting to see what you mean, a lot of these protestors are just rioters and want to destroy stuff just for its own sake. Not a good look for that movement.
