morning baba'
it crazy all the noodles you can get at asian markets, but there is a difference
a chow fun is very different than a chow mein or lo' mein
you can buy the noodles fresh, but the have a shorter shelf life
/i keep mine in the fridge
i think the noodles they use are fried
the mrs loves her coffee and drinks at least a cup or two a day
i love coffee but am able to get by just fine without it ; with the covid i just dont drink it on the daily
heck yeah, the chineese duck is bomb
this one dosent come with the plum sauce but you can easily score your own
but it does have that golden skin and rich fatty goodness
thats a great idea, btw man; get the duck and buy some sauce and pancakes on your own
i thnk your wife is right and the next wave could be even worse
the first time you just saw the statistics: X# of people infected
this time around, its going to be people you know, even if tangentially
/friends of friends like that
i think i know the accent, that generic brit/ english sound we all assume is how they talked
sounds like fun
hope you have a great day brother and stay safe, sounds like the south side is getting wild

I hate to admit it, but ive kept fresh Asian noodles in my fridge for literally months at a time, they get a little hard and stale even with the package sealed tight with a rubber band but they cook up the same. Only if they start to get moldy will I throw them out, and even then only if I cant cut away the mold. Yeah, im ghetto I know, but what ya gonna do?

Years ago I tried making my own pad thai, including the bean sprouts, crushed peanuts and red chili seasoning, turned out ok but then I discovered I don’t really want to eat pad thai every meal every day. Plus thai food is as cheap as most Chinese takeout places, and they do it better than I ever could, until I get experience.

That crispy chow mein you could cook at home by pan frying instead of deep frying it, seems like. Not sure if ive ever had such a dish round here, im gunna have to look for it, sounds like a good textural combination, the saucy and the crunchy.

Ive seen duck and rabbit and capon at butchers and Asian groceries around here, ive bought rabbit a couple times, it wasn’t that expensive and the dogs go crazy for it. Never been ambitious enough to try to cook duck at home though.

I think real Olde English/medieval talk would be almost unintelligible to modern English speakers, plus there were lots of different accents back then, French and German and Roman and Spanish, but the only one most americans know if british from tv and movies so that’s what they go with at ren faires. Whatev’s, it’s basically LARPing, so you cant expect people to be historically accurate.

Yeah im seeing a lot of people not wearing masks at all, even met a woman who said she had a coworker die earlier this year from covid and she said she was sick for 2 months herself, she never got tested for covid or went to the hospital but u can be sure I had my mask on and didn’t get too close to her.

im the same way and hate to waste food
growing up we were kind of poor, i would even bring home left overs from the school lunch
things are much better now but i still dont like to waste
im not a fan of rabbit but i hear some people say they like the taste
i hear you about some things not being worth making at home
after you add in the time and cost of ingredients, its often cheaper/tastier just to get take out unless you know what you are doing
but if its something you want to learn its totally worth it
/remember when i got into making my own pasta
here is an old pic of the crisy noodles to refresh your memory
/plus i like looking at the dish, grinding!

zounds!
you are so right baba about how med evil talk would be like a foreign language now
in some ways the larp'ers are just a parody of what it was really like, but im sure they are having a lot of fun and who dosent like that
so i guess the only way to right wrongs is to GIVE kaep a job in the NFL
lose/lose all the way
thats bad of that lady to not wear her mask even after she was exposed
but some people just dont care about others
its such a little thing to do
take care of yourself brother and be safe

Yup, I think people who grew up during wars and famine and stuff have that ‘dont ever waste food’ mentality ingrained in them, and they pass it on to their kids. Present day America is the richest country in the world, in terms of finances and food, so it can be shocking to see perfectly good food just tossed in the trash every day. Toni kukoc, the bulls basketball player who played with pippen and Jordan during their 2nd three peat, grew up in Croatia during the Yugoslav wars so he was taught to clean his plate without wasting any food. When he first got to America he didn’t realize restaurant portions were so big so at first he’d order too much at mealtime, and he’d play it off and just try to eat it all. I guess you can do that when youre a pro athlete and exercising hours every day.

Rabbit is definitely gamey and chewy, plus I don’t really like the way it looks on the bone, but I tend to just give it to my dogs anyway, I like to think it makes up for all the futile chasing they do of squirrels and rabbits.

I actually tried to order some Cantonese style crispy chow mein yesterday but the one Cantonese places wasn’t answering their phone, so I’ll have to drive by and see if theyre open or what. Don’t think ive ever really had that dish, looks crispier than I imagined but your right, enough sauce will soften the middle of that right up…

Made some burgers and pork chops and steaks last week on the cooker, everything turned out well for the most part.

picture.php

Steaks were almost like roasts, I didn’t cut them down enough but I cooked them long enough where they were very pink but not bloody.

picture.php

Burgers I think I overdid, should have left a nice pink center but s’okay, we ended up using most of them to feed antibiotics to one of our dogs that has pneumonia. She hates pills and isn’t eating much but these burgers are enough of a treat where she’ll swallow them down with meds inside.

that sucks that one of your dogs is sick; we used to use cheese to sneak medicine to our dog
its just like a child being sick and i hope she gets better
that looks like a straight feast there brother!
are those fillets for the beef? those look like some nice chops too
whats with the chop sticks and scissors?
those look like hand pressed burgers, did you add anything to the meat?
the mrs likes to cook burgers a little pink in the middle too
i like to lfatten mine out a lot and then kind of cook them through but i would never turn away a good looking burger like that
how do you like to dress your sandwich?
youre really bringing the heat with your grill game brother! keep it up
/and of course keep posting those pics
this is the first place ive ever had the chow mein with crispy fried noodles so crisp
i am sure they get the noodles already cooked like that and i just need to find the right kind
you are so right that you let it sit for a minute and let the gravy do its thing
they are even better the second time around when you have left overs, the noodles get all spongy and crisp filled with the gravy goodness
i think we all get that way sometimes and our eyes are bigger than our bellies
but i hvae no problem eating left overs and like to get a little extra
so the girl gave us (me and the mrs) some coupons for a place called jersey mikes subs
i tihnk the mrs got them once but i dont really remember the place
i checked it out online and it looks grinding, i will definitely be ordering an extra sandwich for later

Cheese, im going to have to remember that one, yeah my dogs like cheese too. Problem is the sick one is real particular about food when she doesn’t have an appetite, and will chew whatever we give her to feel if there’s a pill inside and spits it out if she finds one. So lately we’ve just been grinding up the pills and mixing the powder with honey and then I pry open her mouth while the woman slaps the honey mix onto her tongue with her fingers. She really doesn’t like that but what ya gonna do?

The woman is ¼ Korean and ¼ Japanese so she likes using chopsticks and scissors to cut up her food. I thought using scissors on food was strange but darn if it isn’t faster than using a knife sometimes, and it’s way better if you don’t want to damage the plate the food is on. The burgers just had S&P and a little Accent (msg) on it, ive been using msg a bit and it’s usually a nice flavor boost. The steaks were a boneless rib roast that I sliced thick and froze; when defrosted I meant to cut them into small pieces for stir fry or thinner slices for steaks but for some reason I just slapped it on the grill as is. When I turned down the heat a bit and closed the cover they were able to cook enough so they weren’t bloody in the middle.
I was trying to make the burgers with an indentation in the middle so when they puff up it’ll be more flat and even but that didn’t work too well, I should have seared them over high heat and be done with it but they cooked all the way through and shrunk and got real thick. I didn’t have any LTO (lettuce tomato onions), just pickles and ketchup and mayo and mustard. Im going to have to remember to keep all that stuff on hand, the veggies do add flavor and crispiness to the burger.

Ive only had jersey mikes once or twice, their schtick is all the meat and cheese is fresh sliced, unlike subway or jimmy johns were it’s all pre sliced. It’s more expensive than those places but I guess the quality makes up for it?

So john harbaugh of the ravens said the nfl’s covid plans are unworkable as is, like not enough players will be able to work out at a time or get physical therapy at a time. With social distancing you can only have so many people in a space at one time but with 90 players in camp and only so many hours during the day how’s everyone going to get their work in?

i hear you about how dogs can find the medicine in their food and spit it out
my sister just puts it way back in her dogs mouth and i guess the naturally swallow it
but i always tried sneaking it into food
i grew up using chopsticks and am pretty good with them
i remember the first time mrs chicky used scissors to cut up a chicken
it thought it was weird, but it did a great job
now they even have these heavier type tools that are made to cut through light bone
i like to buy big chunks of meat too and cut them down myself
you can still cut it into strips even after its been on the grill and now it will have that smokey taste too
my foodie friend said the same thing about jersey mikes, they use fresh meat and are pretty good
he said their deal is they offer the subs "mikes way" or something like that
/vinegar and oil, plus a special seasoning
it looks decent so we will get the two free subs plus an extra one to share and try out a few different ones
thats a good point about how social distancing might be hard to enforce during training camp not to mention during the regular season
/will the players have to keep 6f apart on the sidelines?
i dont know how the nfl is going to manage and i hope the can have some college ball to work out the bugs
california is relaxing a lot of the restrictions they had in place during the last few months so we will see what the rules are later this year

I tried doing the ‘stuff a pill in their mouth and close their mouth and rub their throat and blow on their nose’ to get my pup to swallow pills, she was too smart though, she’d still spit it out afterwards. It worked on my dog that I had when I was a kid, but not this one. She’s pretty stubborn, and is even getting hip to the honey mix method, she’s struggling like crazy when im trying to hold her and open up her mouth. Now she’s running away whenever I get up and walk in her direction. Ah well, better to have ptsd from this than dying from pneumonia.

Chopsticks take a while to get used to and aren’t particularly useful for rice unless youre eating real sticky rice, but theyre good for noodles and picking at side dishes and such. A big chef’s knife on a chopping block is always the best for chopping up food but at the table scissors work good, so long as you remember to keep your kitchen scissors separate from your home office ones.

Ive never heard of ‘mikes way’ at jersey mikes but it seems to be LTO (lettuce tomato onion) and oil/red wine vinegar and herbs/spices, so just a classic Italian sub. Chicago has more than a few places like that, Italian delis that serve good subs, the woman and I went to a place called Fontano’s a while back and that’s always good stuff, although it makes me wonder if I could put together that kind of sandwich myself, seems pretty basic if you have the right ingredients and some reasonably fresh crusty bread.
Tell me how u like the subs, it’s been over a year since I had jersey mike’s. I think if you sign up for their smartphone app you get a free giant sub as well, so that’s another deal you could take advantage of. 4 giant subs might be too much unless you have a party though. Ive taken advantage of the subway buy a footlong get one free deal through their app a few times during quarantine, not every store accepts it though (seems like less than half do) and frankly, subway pretty much sucks. Piling it with all the veggies makes it fresh and healthy, but otherwise it's low quality stuff and i got sick of it even when it's cheap.

Yeah, not sure how u can social distance on a sideline with 55 players plus coaches and training staff and reporters etc. Without quarantining players like the nba is going to do (keep them in a hotel with no contact outside of other players and coaches) then there’s going to be a risk that a footballer will pick up covid from family/friend/wherever and give it to other players. What r they going to do, test every player every day?

a lot of places are reopening here in socal
i tihnk they are pretty much reopening all the bars and dine in restaurants plus the beaches and board walks in addition to movie theaters
they can install those plastic barriers between players on the bench but what about when they gather close to the side line?
pft says ohio state is asking players to sign a waiver and i think that is a big step ahead
of course the team will have to maintain facilities and have a procedure in place to keep people safe, but i think thats the only way we can go forward
its funny the things you can grab with shopsticks
like i said, i grew up using them so im pretty good with them
/when i was a kid i would goof off in class with pencils/ crayons/ markers
we ended up not getting subs this weekend
/drama with the kid and some creaper at her work
but i like my subs with everything on it except the hot stuff
vinegar and oil add a lot and you are so right about how you would totally make great subs at home for half the cost
me and the mrs use to make big sandwiches on sundays and then a few extra for the work week
/pro tip: cabbage keeps way better than lettuce for tomorrows sandwichs
you go and but the good bread and meats, but when you make a bunch at once its not that bad a deal
sounds like your pet is on to you baba'
maybe you can mix it up with the dog and put the ground up pill into other foods
or give her a pill in honey form and then give her some peanut butter after :)
/hours of entertainment will ensue
she sounds like a great pup and i hope she gets better soon

Thanks bro, she’s slowly getting better even though it’s getting harder to give her meds. The honey is a lot better at hiding the bitterness of the crushed up pill, peanut butter tastes good but you need something sweeter to mask the taste of bitter.

IL has 5 ‘stages’ that they’re going through to open up the economy, stage 5 would be no covid cases or a vaccine for it, we’re currently in stage 3, so restaurants are closed except for dining outdoors (with tables 6ft apart) and drive-thru/carryout of course. Gatherings are limited to 10 people. Stage 4 would be gatherings of up to 50 people, not sure if interior dining of restaurants would be open in that situation…

Yeah, im seeing a lot of those plastic shields, like the sneeze guards at salad bars but for clerks/cashiers/tellers. Most of them look pretty temporary, like it’s flimsy sheets of clear plastic with holes cut in them so they can be hung up with zip ties. I think ur right, those things would not be feasible on a football sideline, some ball carrier is going to run right into and through those things if they cant stop themselves. If they break it that plastic could be sharp enough to seriously cut exposed skin.

Yeah, I think a lot of colleges are going to be having their players sign covid waivers, and not just for football. Heck even the regular student body will probably be asked to sign waivers.

Chopsticks are great for picking things up for sure, but I always like to keep regular utensils on hand for meal times too, knives and forks and spoons, so I have all my bases covered. If im eating steak need the knife and fork to cut it properly (or scissors ), spoons are good for picking up the scraps from ur plate. In general I only use chopsticks for Asian foods, things like spaghetti ill use a fork even though it’s a noodle.

Cabbage is a robust vegetable for sure, although you’ll probably need to mix it with some type of dressing, make it into a slaw, if you want it to taste good on a sandwich. Speaking of which I bought some gyro meat and fixings at sam’s and have been having some pretty kick-A gyros at home, will post pics of that soon.

oh man, gyros sounds great! did you make that yogurt sauce to go along with it?
that and some home made hummus and olives, grinding!
i will need to keep an eye out for prepared gyro meat in the future
those barriers look pretty thin and you are right that a player running out a play on the sideline will blow right through one of them
i think california has a similar plan in place with the final stage being no covid at all (unlikely) or a vaccine available
/will it be mandatory?
we dont make the cabbage into slaw unless its like fish or bbq
most of the time its just there to be crunchy
i have never cut steaks with scissors but i have some pretty decent knifes in the kitchen
cant wait to hear about your gyros man

Heh, I did, made a tzatziki sauce with Greek yogurt, chopped up pickles, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt. Ur supposed to use cucumber and herbs like dill, but I figured I have dill pickles, so that’s like cukes and dill in one?
It was good with onions and tomatoes, on some warmed up pitas, Ill post pics soon. The gyro meat is Kronos, which is a local Chicago company so may be hard to find outside the Midwest, I know my local sams carries it on the regular, and a 2lb box is $14 but will make a good 6-8 gyros depending on how high you pile the meat.
I guess if you don’t dress the cabbage it’ll stay crispier, and ur right, it’s that crunchy texture that it really adds to a sandwich. Lettuce becomes limp and wilted after a few hours in a sammy, even if refrigerated.
So Christian Hackenberg, the penn state QB drafted in the 2nd rd by the jets, is going to try to play baseball. He never played a regular season snap in the nfl, and wasn’t that good in the AAF, but he threw 90mph playing baseball in high school so like tebow he figures to give that a shot. Unfortunately, he also gave up more walks than strikeouts in high school, so not sure baseball will work out for him, but whatever.

I unfortunately don’t have any shots of the gyros I made, and im sort of all gyro’d out for now, but in the meantime I thought id post up shots of a sandwich I had recently. It’s a Chicago creation you mostly find only in majority African-american neighborhoods, at the little fast food shops owned by (mostly) Pakistanis.

oh man! that is no jitb taco, thats for sure brother
shit looks on point
/decent bread, good piles of meat with a lot of other good stuff in there too
the prices look nice and i will have to try one of those mexican sandwiches one of these
days
those kind of places are the best because its all about the food and value
plus comes with a can of pop! ( out here we call it coke of soda)
i kind of remember hackenburg; was he still under contract in the nfl? has he been signed to a' league ball
it sounds like he has a strong arm but at that level thats a given; best of luck to him
pickles in tzatziki, brilliant!
im going to have to try adding pickles next time we make the tzatziki sauce; i like to get good pickles and then i will put pieces of cucumber or other stuff into the juice as i eat the pickles
i bet those would be dank!
kick ass baba, looks like you are eating good and thanks ofr letting me tag along!

These types of fast food mom and pop joints in the city tend to include fries with the sandwich or dog, some include a drink some dont. Yeah, soda has always been called 'pop' round here, it’s a Midwest thing for sure, makes us sound uneducated or backwards. ‘Pop’ to most people might mean lollipop or popsicle, but here it means soda.
The sammy was alright, it’s pretty darn messy to eat, and at $13.50 for the meal it’s not cheap but it’s enough food for 2. Nice thing about a lot of these places is theyre open till real late (4-5am lol) or 24hrs, so no matter what time of day it is u can get ur grease fix on.

Hackenburg may be able to throw 90mph in baseball but that’s actually just average for today’s game, where it’s all about the strikeouts and home runs. And his wildness (more walks than SO’s) is concerning, he’s not going to get far even in the minors unless he really cuts down on the walks. But give him a few years, maybe he’ll be something. Tebow is in his 4th yr in the minors and in AAA before the pandemic, so he had an outside shot of getting a look in the majors sometime soon. Even Michael Jordan, people rag on him for hitting .200 in the minors, but the truth is that hitting .200 in AA in his 1st yr playing baseball since high school was pretty amazing, and with a couple more yrs in the minors he might have gotten a call up to the MLB; he wouldn’t have been anything more than a reserve OF at best tho. i once had a chicago whitesox michael jordan rookie card
im surprised that tebow is still in sports; i kind of thought he would become a moticational" speaker or some kind of evangelist
you are right that ball control is what separates the good players from the bad; anyone can whip it in there best pitchers can hit an exact point and they have crazy movement on their ball
i tihnk pop is a fine name baba'
/reminds me of a hot summer day and an ice cold black cherry soda pop from a bottle
no one calls candy a pop, i would flip if someone gave me a popsicle instead of a soda
upon further review...
actually i would think score! especially if it was one of those orange and cream ice cream popsicles, i would rather have that than a sugary drink any day
/i drink mostly water; that and a lot of liquor
oh wow, $13.50 is kind of pricey, but it looks worth it
/esp if you can get two meals out of it
i dont see the gym show on the menu in that pic, but it must be up there with the steak and cheese sandwiches
btw, whats that perch &chicken tender all about? do they have fish bites there too
GRINDING!11!

Is that card worth anything? I read an article recently about how people who collected baseball cards in the 90’s really got screwed by the overproliferation of cards during that time. The author spent thousands on cards in the 90’s, and his entire collection might be worth a hundred bucks total now. I never got into card collecting myself, not being much of a sports fan back then, but that would chap my ass if that happened to me. Of course, my comic book collection from the 80s and 90s is probably worthless now too.

Im sure Tebow does motivational speaking and church speaking on the side, but in addition to minor league baseball he works as a commentator for the SEC network, ill see him on espn a lot too when people need an opinion on college football stuff.

Yeah, major league hitters are too good to be fooled by wild pitches, if you cant locate the strike zone they’ll just sit back and take balls all day, then when the pitcher gets frustrated and throws one over the middle most of the time they’ll crank it for an extra base hit. I do remember mad dog, greg maddux, he won a cy young with the cubs then 4 straight for the braves, his fastball topped out at 85 but he dominated hitters with pinpoint control and movement. Are there any pitchers like that nowadays, or do you have to have power as well as control now?

U make a good point, that when someone says they want ‘pop’ it doesn’t mean candy or ice cream, even to people who prefer the term ‘soda’. Maybe it’s just the lazy way of saying soda, why use 2 syllables when 1 will do?

Here’s a pic of the menu with the sandwich prices. Overall ur right, the prices are reasonable for what you get. Except the fact that the woman wanted onion rings, and I ordered a side of rings for 3.50, and it was those nasty cheap onion rings with the minced up filling, and not fully cooked either. Nowadays u can get beer battered whole rings in the freezer section, taste almost as good as fresh ones made from scratch, so that was disappointing.

The Univ of Texas longhorns football team found like 13 players tested positive for covid, im guessing most of them are asymptomatic but theyre still being isolated. Not sure how the NFL season is going to happen unless they do an isolation bubble like the nba is doing, but do players/coaches/staff want to live apart from their family and friends for 6-7 months? Guess they’ll have to if they want to make sure one asymptomatic player doesn’t infect a bunch more…

you got the king gym shoe! nice, looks like some good food there
onion rings are great but but only a few places do them right
i dont mind premade, but they have to be good
i do have a bunch of cards from back in the day! i have this box filled with full seasons of cards, mostly from the 80s
/football,baseball and random types
but like you said, they arent worht much afaik, i keep them for the memories and to see some old names
/bo knows what?
that is huge number for the texans
thats going to be a issue for any league to address and the more you think about it one side will have to accept the risk of playing
i guess here in san diego covid is under control
/its not
so im going back to work next week! i talked with hr and am going back to the lab on wed
im going to make this weekend the best!

The heavily processed onion rings I remember was all you could really get in the freezer section when I was a kid, nowadays you can get them made out of real onion slices with a nice batter coating; when I was visiting my in-law in the hospital, the cafeteria there actually had pretty decent food and the onion rings were these really nice beer-battered ones with big thick onion slices, and they came frozen in a bag. So this little joint on the south side, serving up sorry ass onion rings from the 1980's, was a disappointment, and the sandwich wasn’t that good either. It’s good in the sense that bread, meat and cheese with creamy sauces is never really that bad, but it wasn’t all that, and ill probably stay away from jim shoe’s in the future. Something about mayo and tzatziki sauce together on a sandwich, there’s just too much creaminess for me. Plus all that sauce mixing with the juices from the meat, it’s just a really sloppy eating experience. Im not the neatest person in the world but having to go through a bunch of napkins to get through my meal isn’t that pleasant imo.

That was the Texan longhorns college football team with all those positive tests, not the Houston Texans, but I think the Bucs have already had one coach or trainer test positive for covid. Are these guys actually sick, or just have very mild symptoms? I think even a very healthy person can get seriously ill from covid, but generally speaking if youre young and healthy you might not get that sick from covid. Is that right?

That’s cool ur going back to work Pop, did your employer take care of u guys during the lockdown, or did they make u use up vacation and sick days if you wanted to get paid? I think a lot of govt employees in IL still got paid even though they didn’t have to go in, plus u add stimulus payments on top of that, heck some people might have done better financially during the lockdown than before it…

my employer was super generous
i saw you mentioned it was the longhorns in your post and it was careless of me to just say the texans
im hearing a lot of talk about cidvid being on the rise with the lack of social distancing and reopening a lot of high risk places (bars, casinos, ...)
ythe other day i guess california hit a number, ( new cases or death in a time span) that should have triggered a roll back but they decided to wait a few days for some of the cases to time out and then do a recount
you could totally be asymptomatic but still have covid
the other night i was at a friends house and in the distance you could hear someone coughing really bad
/dude, this was a serious prolonged cough that dident sound good and i thought if i can avoid that shit i will
i hear you about how the sandwich was a bit over the top
sounds good and all but like you said, maybe not worth going out of your way for
its funny you mention not being the neatest person while eatting
at home i dont even bother with napkins, i use a hand towel; oh yeah
i like to eat man

Well, reports are trickling in of positive tests from nfl teams, i think the bucs said they have 2 players or coaches test positive. Their HC, bruce arians, is over 60 and beat cancer years ago so he's a high risk case if he gets infected.
Even if the young healthy athletes arent getting really sick when they contract corona, they're still carriers like u said and it would be easy for them to infect others without social distancing and PPE. Plus even if youre young and strong there's a small chance you could get seriously, seriously ill. But ive heard the biggest threat of the pandemic is that quarantining can wipe out so much of ur team, for example if one OL gets sick, then all the O-lineman who had contact with him have to go into quarantine, meaning all ur starters are now out for 2 weeks. If that happens in season, psshhh, u think the QB is going to be happy playing behind a 2nd or 3rd string line?

Heh, that cough u heard, sure it wasnt some dude hitting the bong too hard? J/K, man, if that sounded bronchial yeah, keep that stuff away from me, dont want to be anywhere near that person. Even if it's not covid it could be whooping couch, strep throat, tuberculoisis, something nasty that you dont want to contract.

Yeah, that sammy was definitely one you had to 'hunch over' in order to eat, it was dripping so much juice, i still had to clean my hands and mouth after every bite. I used to watch a lot of diners driveins and dives, and guy fieri likes to make sarcastic remarks about huge messy burgers and sandwiches. "Let me just unhinge by jaw to fit this bad boy in..." as he picks up an 8 inch thick monstrosity of a burger. "Do I have anything on my mouth?" after he takes a huge bite of a messy sandwich, his lips and chin covered in sauce and juice.

I think the aesthetic of the eating experience is important too, and i usually like to put food into my mouth without making too much of a mess. Using a towel or washcloth is a good idea for messy eating though, it's much more durable and absorbant than any paper towel or napkin.
