Yknow, im almost certain ive seen some of these movies in the way back period of my childhood, just dont remember it. I do remember binging on 3 stooges back in the day though.
What tv channel are these old movies on? Around chicago I think channel 50 and something like channel 38 or 23 have a bunch of old movies they'll regularly play...
I hear football (NFL, college) leagues are testing masks to put over the facemask part of the helmets, to prevent them breathing on each other while playing. Not sure if that will really work, these guys need to breathe a lot while running around and restricting their air might cause more issues than it solves.
The NBA supposedly might come back with players in quarantine, playing in disneyworld (orlando) and maybe vegas, with staff and players staying in a hotel and limiting interaction outside their circle. So no PPE while playing, just making sure once ur clear of the Rona, that u stay clear and have little chance of picking it up. Social distancing might be a thing at stadiums too, limiting capacity by half or more. Im sure owners and players wont like that, it affects their salary and bottom line. But it's either that or no games at all...
morngin baba'
like you said, half of some thing is better than nothing
i think right now its about the liability of reopening; if someone gets sick the leagues need to be able to say they did their part to keep people safe
the nfl could use those plastic face shields behind the facemask part of the helmet
lt wore a visor and maybe there are full face visors that dont restrict air flow but create a barrier
/and it would look cool too
im not sure what channel the show the old movies on, but i have a dvd i got on amazon with five of dk's greatest hits
/we havent even mentioned the reluctant astronaut yet and the apple dumpling gang
here in san diego, we have a few channels that show classic tv, andy griffith, old movies, stuff like that
you can probably find them on you tube too
Yeah, everyone in the US is scared of getting sued, but isn’t it also true that people assume some sort of risk when they go out to public places? Like, u can’t blame other people for all of your behavior, and if the stadiums are explicit in saying “hey, we’ve tried to clean and disinfect what we could but there’s no guarantee you wont get sick” then isn’t it caveat emptor (buyer beware)?
But im sure ur right, that even if the lawsuit is ridiculous, there’s some lowlife attorney out there who would fire off a lawsuit against a rich person or company, just in the hope of getting some money to go away.

Those helmet visors are cool as hell, I agree, but wouldn’t a full face one fog up or restrict air flow to their lungs? Plus, after one minute of running around, a player is huffing and puffing, isn’t his breath going under and around the mask? You have to have air flow for them to play, but that means all that breathing cant be filtered or restricted, and especially during tackles or blocks theyre going to be face to face. But we’ll see what they come up with, and how the players react to it. The bad thing is that one or more positive tests might shut the whole league or conference down…

I have a DVR, and sort of want to record all these old shows and movies, they usually play them at odd hours (late at night, weekends) and if I could record everything and just play them at my leisure, fast forward through commercials, that would be ideal. But lately it’s so hard for me to get into tv or movies, I tend to just play it while im on the computer or cooking or doing other stuff, it’s just like background noise for me. Maybe I just need to focus more.
that would be rad if you could fill your dvr with all kids of cool classic movies
i guess check your local listings and see whne a good film is on and then record it
do they still show the old godzilla movies?
i know sphenghouli shows some of the classics, you could probably get a good abbot and costello movie that way or even the ghost and mr chicken
so i told my friend who told me about patty mayo about how its likely bunk
he kind of defended the show saying its only part tazed and most of his arguments fell flat
/why ould they want to look stupid, who would let them self get tazed for a tv show he asked?; uh have you ever heard of jackass, or a thing called porn? people do all kinds of weird and stupid shit for money/fame
isee two types of face coverings, the type that filter the air and the kind that contain your bodily fluids
most makes like the cheap surgical masks and bandannas (neck gaters included) dont really filter the air you breath but make it so your sneezes or excretions dont leave your face area
others are designed to actually filter out microbes
wearing the later will definitely restrict breathing and could pose a problem to a lot of players especially at elevation
it just takes one money grubbing scum lawyer to ruin a whole season and the nfl does not want that
if anything they will err on the side of safely; as far as the fans go thats a different story
i could see the nfl opening up for games and not letting fans attend, or a very strict attendance policy in place at first; its just easier to control less people
we will see what happens and im looking to baseball for guidance
hope you are having a great start to your spring, can you believe that this weekend is a holiday
Yeah, I think some channels like CMT (country music tv) will play old shows like 3’s company and golden girls at night, im going to have to look around and see if there are any older shows and movies than that that air. Im sure there are, I think it’s really cheap for them to license movies and tv that are more than 30 yrs old, it’s basically filler for late night tv, along with infomercials and old horror movies like svenghouli.
I saw this one yt video from a guy called donut operator, he’s a cop or ex-cop who has a sense of humor about himself and he went through some patty mayo ‘deputy’ videos that he said didn’t add up to real police work. One big thing he pointed out is a distinct lack of radio traffic, a working cop would have a radio buzzing with dispatch reports, etc, and especially if he was fighting some dude, there’d be a few cars inbound to help. And u don’t see or hear any of that. But he’s got good production value and it’s played out pretty realistically so it’s understandable why it’s so believable. And like u said, people getting tazed or pepper sprayed, so long as theyre healthy and not over exerting themselves it could be safe, I think in police academy they taze students to show them how it feels.
Im interested to see what sort of PPE they provide to football players, ur right we’ll see how MLB does it. I guess they don’t want any spitting or touching between players in baseball? Seems crazy, but I guess if you don’t want to isolate from family/friends u have to practice social distancing in sports. But sports like football and basketball, obviously u cant maintain ur distance as much as in baseball.
patty mayo isnt a cop and he says that a lot
like how he is a bail enforcement officer (bail bonds man/ bounty hunter) and dosent have to follow certain rules like cops do
/plus, i dont tihnk he really has anyone to call back at the base
like its just him and his "partner" for the day and they dont have any real backup readily available
my think is is someone pushed his way into my house i would be pretty pissed
if he dosent have some paper work and a real badge he needs to gtfo
my friend said something about how they could enact a citizens arrest if you got pushy, but i can do the same thing because they cant just barge into your pad and start tossing the place
im with you baba and think its not totally on the up and up
the movies on dvd arent that expensive on amazon
maybe next birthday or holiday you should ask for some dvds for a gift if you dont get them before
i think the ppe will be a mandatory going forward and a big part of sports reopening
it will have to be effective at containing fluids but not too restrictive
i guess this is the new normal and sports are just a reflection of society
any plans for the long weekend?
Yeah, seems like bounty hunters operate in this legal grey area. Dog the Bounty Hunter, who had his own show on cable, was even a convicted felon (was in the getaway car when his accomplice murdered someone over a cannabis deal gone wrong back in the 70’s) so he’s not allowed to own any firearms or be a certified peace officer. And yeah, a lot of patty mayo’s videos show people just letting him into their homes, im thinking most people would ask for a warrant or just flat out refuse. But then that’d be a very boring video if he just had to walk away every time he knocked. And im not certain, but don’t bounty hunters have to be certain the target is inside before they can force their way in? Like stake out the place and actually see him or her walk inside? Without that certainty, you could call the cops or use reasonable force to prevent them from coming in. Hopefully that situation never presents itself, im not sure what I’d do if armed people tried forcing their way into my home because they’ve made a big mistake. That would suck, especially if people end up getting hurt.

Its supposed to be nice and warm (far too many cold and or rainy days lately) so I might break out the cooker and grill up some meat. I hear beef prices are going up, my local sam’s the beef seemed more expensive than usual, so maybe ill just grill up what I have and stick to chicken and pork from now on…
i usually get my meat at costco
ill get those big roasts, so im buying like 8-12lb of beef but they are good cuts and the prices are decent
i portion them out myself wrap them up really good and freeze some of them
/i have a few nice ny strips in the freezer right now
i heard from a friends son who works at one of the local stores that they are out of rib eye and cuts like that, but they were just on special so people bough up all there was
im planning on grilling a bunch of hamburgers and i might get some chicken in there too
i love grilled hamburgers and hotdogs
so my friend took us to this new asian fried chicken place that used rice flower insted of regular kind
it was good but super pricy!
/a whole chicken cost like $25 and that was with any sides
im going to get some rice flour and make it myself
Yeah costco has good prices for the quality you get, sometimes they even have prime grade, which isnt cheap but considering it’s steakhouse quality, it beats paying $30 for an 8oz filet mignon. And freezing it right away and eating them within a few months you don’t lose much in quality or taste, if anything.
I got a bunch of leftover all beef hotdogs but the sams was out of ground beef and even their frozen patties were gone; the members mark brand of 1/4lb frozen patties were cheap as dirt, like 2.50lb (before covid) but they were actually pretty tasty when grilled or pan fried. I have some 70% cheap ground beef in the freezer I could use, and also things like ground turkey are still available and cheap, ground turkey isnt as good as beef (a little too dry imo) but in spaghetti sauce it’s indistinguishable from beef imo.
I think korean fried chicken places have been growing more popular, it’s pretty good stuff but like u said much pricier than kfc or popeyes. They use rice flour like in tempura batter, to make it extra crispy (I think keeping the batter ice cold helps crispiness too) and also cut their chicken a bit differently, they’ll cut a breast piece in half before frying. Ive done that too sometimes when I bother to cut up a whole chicken, makes all the pieces more similar in size so they cook more evenly.
Last week passed without any more nfl players being arrested, unless you count former chargers superstar qb ryan leaf biggrin getting arrested for domestic battery in palm springs. Just when you thought he had turned his life around, bam another hit comes. Well, maybe it was all a terrible misunderstanding.
Peyton and tiger woods beat brady and phil mickelson in a golf tournament yesterday. I didn’t watch any of it but I heard it was entertaining and they raised money for covid relief, so good for them.
morning baba', happy memorial day brother!
i saw some golf on the tv but just blew it off; they also had some nascar on tv but im not really into that either
you are right on about the chicken, in this case its just like a really thick tempura batter
/also spot on about the temps, i put ice cubes in my liquid when tempura frying
we were able to score a sleeve of those burgers the other day but that was at the business costco
like you said, those are the way to go in the pan or on the grill
gound turkey is good but can be dry, same for the ground pork, but you put them into a sauce and its on
i saw that thing about r.lead the otehr day
he seemed to have turned his life around at one point too and maybe it is a big misunderstanding
i am going to grill up some burgers later today and cook up some fries too!
we have lettuce , pickles, and tomatoes for the burgers, the mrs made a broccoli salad and i had a candy to start the day!
have a great day man and enjoy every bite
Imma head out and maybe grill some meats too, will post pics when I can. Bought a big bag of fries at sams and been frying those up in the air fryer, theyre pretty good even though I do miss the greasiness.

I always thought the Korean chicken was usually a thinner tempura batter, it didn’t seem so heavily coated to me, not like Japanese tempura shrimp or vegetables. Always figured a thick tempura batter resulted in a puffier breading. I know for frying chicken American style, doing a double dip results in extra crispy breading. Roll the chicken in a seasoned flour mix, then dip in egg wash, then roll the chicken in the flour mix again. I love a good fried chicken breading, heck sometimes I prefer the skin and the crust over the meat itself.

It’s sad that we don’t have any sports on memorial day, but euroleague soccer is starting up and hopefully MLB and NBA will be back. Football has some time to plan to get back but hopefully by July they’ll know for sure what they’ll do.
i usually double coat my fried chicken
im fan of crispy fried skin but kind of go easy most of the time
i will eat the popeyes chicken skin and all, but they put something in their battert that makes them crispy and spicy
we usually go super thin with the tempura batter so it just barley coats the food and you have just a hint of cripness
but in this case im hoping for a nice crispy crust so ill make it thicker and go for the double dip
we had the burgers and corn off the grill this weekend, plus some chicken patties and fries
that would be cool it you had some pics, you have really stepped up your grill game brother!
so i read that football plans on opening on schedule but they might not have fnas in attendance
im fine with that as long as there is football and hope we can get the players back on the field soon

I think rice flour and maybe corn starch helps make a batter crispier, especially if it’s a thin batter. Plus places like popeyes and KFC use pressure fryers, deep fryers with a locking lid, makes it cook faster and remain juicier and maybe keeps it crispier too? Not sure.

Lately the woman has wanted me to cook smellier stuff, like fish and anything deep fried, outside. We bought this portable burner and gas cans from sams club and been setting that outside and cooking things like fish, or searing steaks on it. Helps cut down on the kitchen smells, so we don’t need to air out the kitchen as much anymore.

I guess fans being in the stands is totally superfluous to the actual game play, but it might just be weird at the lack of sound during a game. Like I saw some ufc matches they they’ve held in an empty arena in florida and it’s weird that you can hear the announcers and coaches so well. I think joe buck (the baseball and football announcer) said that teams would pipe in stadium noise during games, which is what theyre doing in euroleague soccer?

Speaking of football, Tampa’s been getting a lot of attention lately. And truly, by any measure, they ‘won’ the offseason, getting Brady and Gronk, and having a top Off tackle falling to them in the draft. Just by virtue of brady throwing ¼ of the int’s that jameis does (from 30 to probably like 7 or 8 at most) they’ll add 2-3 wins to their total (they finished 7-9 last year). U think they’ll be a 12+ win team and make a deep playoff run this season?
i still think the saints are the team to beat in teh nfc.s; they could win 12+ games
the bucs have definitely leveled up, but i want to see a few W's before i get on board that ship
/you are right about how they won the off season, they are now a team on everyone radar and i cant wait to see how they play
we have a camp grill we like to use and they are great!
i never thought about taking it outside to fry here
cooking potatoes in oil is ok thoe, its only like the fish and stuff like that she dosent like the smell?
i heard about how they were tlakign about simulating crowd noise for nfl games
i wonder how that will work; will the play the noise louder for the home team
/i want to hear chants of darrrryyyyllllll....darrrryyyyllllll too
maybe they could have some kind of live chat thing going or something like that where they could have some fans comments posted or even a live chat where a few select guests could watch the game and comment in real time
i saw some ufc the other day w/o the corwd noise
you are right, it was really different and you could really hear the hits too
hope you are having a great day man, im cheering for you brother!
Saints have been winning a lot the past 3 yrs once they fixed their defense. Brees is older and doesn’t throw downfield as much but he’s still deadly at short and medium ranges; still, u wonder how much he has left in the tank. They have jameis as a backup in case brees gets hurt, but even sean payton is going to have a hard time curbing those turnovers if he has to play. Im going to give a real hot take and say that the falcons will finish within 1 game of the saint’s record in 2020. Atlanta started off real slow but their D got better once their head coach gave up defensive playcalling duties. And I think gurley will give them more efficient RB play, with his all around game (blocking, rushing, receiving).
Yeah, that’s what it is, a camp grill. Ur right, normally just frying potatoes inside doesn’t make too much of a smell, other than the oil smell, but I swear a couple weeks ago I used some bad oil or something cause it smelled like fried fish inside the house even though I wasn’t cooking fish! It was so bad I think it gave the woman the runs, she didn’t eat anything I fried but the mere smell of it would upset her stomach. Needless to say she banned my frying to the outdoors after that.
Im thinking any crowd noise they pump into stadiums has to be more ambient or background noise, otherwise u make a great point, that what if the home team jacks up the volume on the visiting team’s offensive possessions? I guess it’d be the same as a normal home game where the crowd yells more when the opposing team is on O, stadiums like the seahawks and the chiefs are known to get crazy loud, but still I can see home teams getting abusive with the volume if there are no rules in place. Like super loud on the visiting team's possessions but dead quiet on the home team's possessions. But i think they should pump in some noise otherwise it will be weird being able to hear every little sound, the hitting, the QB shouting audibles, defense talking, etc. Well, that might actually be cool to hear that, but weird as well.
Have u been out camping since the pandemic hit, or are the parks closed as well? I guess in a big state park it’s very easy to practice social distancing since there’s so much land to spread out in. Have u ever thought about loading up an 80lb backpack and trekking through the wilderness for a day or two to get really remote? I guess that’s pretty advanced though, much easier to just find a suitable campground near a parking spot so u have your vehicle nearby…
i actually used to do a lot of pack hiking and stuff like that
the mrs is a trooper when it comes to the back country and shoulders her share of the load with no complaints
car camping is fun too because you can bring extra gear/ food
the parks are mostly closed up till recently
you could still go out onto blm land or the primitive sites, but i kind of had to stay close to home for a while (work stuff)
they are opening sites back up with limited capacity which is just what we like
we had planned on going the other weekend but something came up, but it would be fun
i still have a pretty bad ass load out and we might do some pack hiking soon
so are you picking the saints, atl, bux, panthers for the nfc.s?
that sounds about right for now and i could also see the second place team being a solid wild card contender
/i actually like the falcons and am a fan of matty ice; gurley gives them a chance to get the wheels turning on a serious ground game especially if d.freeman can sort his shit out
i know what you mean about bad oil, maybe that was it? good oil dosent really smell like anything but i used to reuse my oil when i was younger and after a day or so it would get this smell; a heavy greasy odor
that sucks that the lady dosent let you fry inside but the camp grills are great and it just seems more manly cooking things outdoors
Yeah, I had a buddy that would do some serious pack hiking, would trek for days through Yellowstone and parks in northern cali, just go out to the deep woods and mountains where there is literally no other human for miles around. Pretty impressive stuff, and having to carry all your food and gear is a workout, but if you love the outdoors it’s a great way to enjoy nature and keep in shape.
The panthers are universally projected to be one of the worst teams next year, in line for the #1 overall pick (trevor Lawrence, the Clemson QB), but they have a new coach and QB (Bridgewater) and even though they had the worst run D in the league last year I think they used all their draft picks last month on defense. So if matt rhule can settle into the pro game (as a former college coach, sometimes the transition is iffy) they might be alright, but I’d have to go: Bucs, Saints, Falcons and panthers finishing 1-4 in the NFCS. I agree with you, that the saints are likely to be an 11-12 win team, but since I said the falcons will finish within one game of them maybe that means the saints wont be more than a 9-10 win team? Hard to have three 11-win teams in one division, yknow?

Devonta freeman actually got released by the falcons this offseason, it was expected, he was great in 2016 (top 3 fantasy back) and got a big extension but injuries have hampered him a lot, he was alright last year, especially in the 2nd half but still overpaid for what he brought to the table. Gurley is cheaper and younger (still only 25!) and despite that gimp knee im thinking he’ll still be effective, his skill guys aren’t any better on the falcons (ryan/julio/ridley is kind of even with goff/kupp/woods/Reynolds/Higbee) but the blocking should be better.
i dident see the falcons released freeman, thanks for keeping me updated
i agree that he was hugely overpaid and wasnt really putting up the numbers they expected
gurley is an upgrade for them at rb and if he can play 16 games they will get their monies worth and then some
im kind of a fan of julio jones
he is big and he is fast with great hands and body controll; i hear he is one of the toughest receivers in the nfl to cover https://www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/richard-sherman-seahawks-toughest-receivers-ive-ever-covered
i could see the nfc.s producing two playoff teams easily
camping is great fun no matter how you get there
its nice to disconnect and get away from home, plus i like looking at things like trees and animals
i will always love being outdoors, i like the fresh air and wildness i guess you could say
After his terrific 2015 and 2016 seasons, Devonta got a contract extension worth around 8M/yr, with 2 years guaranteed. I think top backs like zeke and gurley and bell make 12-15M/yr, Melvin Gordon turned down 10M/yr from the chargers (oof) cause he thought he was worth more than that.
At 8M/yr he was a fair deal if he stayed healthy, but over the last 3 yrs (17, 18, 19) he lost time every season to injuries. And ur right, cutting him to go with gurley for 5M/yr was a no-brainer. He still hasn’t resigned with a team, neither has lesean mccoy, who knows if either dude will ever play in the league again?
Ive heard opinions that Julio has been the best WR of the 2010’s, him and Antonio brown. But u make a great point, he’s basically like the calvin johnson of this decade, big and strong and fast and skilled, no weaknesses to his game really.
Nature is great, being outdoors is healthy and fun (so long as the weather isn’t bad), hiking and walking is good, low impact exercise. But im guessing that once you get into the boonies for a bit you no longer have cell service? Maybe the kids don’t like that so much, but also it’s a bit more dangerous once you get outside the range of a 911 call, in case you have a bad accident or get attacked by mountain lion or something. Very rare incidents I know but something to be wary of…
