im not sure if ricky williams is in the weed game
it seems like hes more of a smoker than a producer, but he does have lots of money to invest
/sometimes not the best combination
that sucks about the xfl folding
it was really bad timing because i think they could have went on for a few more years
who knows, they could have become a minor league feeder for the nfl in "the other time"
but with covid things are all going to change
i think the nfl could still go on without the fans
from what i understood, it was the team owners who benefited from stadium attendance
the league got its money from tv broadcasts
now they are talking about more advertising possibilities, things like tarping over the seats and green screening ads there
the nfl may even relax their stance on no product promo on players uniforms in light of the pandemic
/$$$$$
even with out fans the nfl makes money

Seems like Ricky doesnt own any shops but he does have his own line of cannabis tinctures and vape cartridges, and he's way into eastern medicine and yoga and stuff like that. His products are actually carried in the SD area, which is where he grew up, so if u ever pop into a dispensary maybe youll see some of his products, although im sure youre homemade stuff is way cheaper and just as good if not better.

The CBA between the player's union and the owners specifies that the players get 47% of all gross revenue, so I think that includes tickets/parking/concessions? Theyre saying that if gross revenue is drastically lower because no fan attendance, that the salary cap could be tens of millions of dollars lower, forcing teams to cut players or lower salaries? But the tv contracts are up for renewal soon, and the new contracts will be worth a lot more than the old ones, so maybe that revenue bump will compensate for loss of attendance revenue?

this got me thinking about how the league splits up the money and who gets what
according to this article, the league recognizes two types of revenue, local and national

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/062515/how-nfl-makes-money.asp

the individual teams keep the local revenue while all the teams share in the national money
thats one of the reason i think the owners are all pushing for bigger stadiums and more luxury boxes, they get to keep a big chunk of all that money
the new tv deal could be huge,by far the greatest deal, biggly
plus they are going to allow above the board gambling here soon too so i can see revenue going up
/kind of like how fantasy brought in a huge group of viewers
it would be weird watching a pro sporting event without any fans and how will that effect home field advantage for most teams?
hope you are having a great week baba and ready for a fun weekend

That was an interesting arcticle, Pop. I didnt know the cowboys made 10x the net income of the packers because of local revenue (tickets, concessions, parking). Puts it in perspective for sure. I knew owners always wanted new stadiums for extra money, but I thought it was mostly because they could get the taxpayers to foot the construction bill. Lately however, some stadiums, like the warriors chase center in san fran, and the sofi stadium for the rams/chargers, were entirely privately funded (except for tax breaks). I think there were significant retail and residential developments associated with the stadium, so that's why the owners didnt need public funds to finance the construction.

Did you see the rams new uniforms? I guess theyre getting a lot of criticism. Im not sure why they chose the shades of color they did, the new yellow is more of a sun yellow instead of gold yellow, and the new blue is this really bright, pastel blue; I liked the old blue better.

hopefully cities are getting wise to the racket of putting up so much public money to fund private stadiums
/the city of oakland is still left holding the bag on millions of dollars of public bonds they used to repair the raiders former home
even if a city will only give special deals on land, teams can make millions off redeveloping an area like you mentioned
im not a fan of the new color scheme
i have a b'day coming up and i made it clear that i dont want any new rams gear this year
hopefully last years look will go on sale, i likes the previous logo and colors

Yeah, I think the local citizens are always aware of how a new stadium impacts their finances. When soldier field got a facelift years ago, I think it was financed with a new tax on downtown hotels. The stadium in glendale arizona where the cards play was also financed with some hefty tourist taxes. I guess the reason they passed was that the local populace thinks, well I live here why would I get a hotel room? Hotel taxes are going to be something tourists pay, not me. But I suppose u can make an argument that that tax money could be used for other civic projects instead of making a billionaire even richer.

That's why im proud of San diego for standing up to dean spanos (eff him btw) even though it resulted in the team moving. Although I think from what youve said in the past that that was his plan all along, to make unreasonable demands that wouldnt be met so he can move the team to LA. Because the 'logic' was that by slapping the 'LA' name on it instead of 'SD', it would make his team worth 500M-1B more. Which sounded like it made sense at the time, except the reality is that the chargers have at most a few thousand fans within 50miles of LA.

Yeah, im not sure how you can mess up gold and blue, two of the best colors by themselves. I mean, the bears are orange and blue and it's pretty hard imo to make that look good, which is why I think they moved the shade of orange towards a more reddish orange some years ago. But maybe the new rams gear will look better in person? Who knows? In the end it will come down to how the team actually performs; they werent considered to have a good offseason, losing more talent than gaining it, but if the O-line can hold up better (goff was the worst QB in the league last yr when pressured) they should be able to still outscore most everyone.

thats the way they always couch it, its "those people" who we are going to tax
tourists are always a good mark, plus anything fun
but what about now with covid and the loss of tourist revenue? who foots the bill
/sorry for the rant brother but san diego has big tourist taxes to fund a veriety public projects
its the taxpayers in the city who end up holding holding the bag and football is a money making business
the bears orange and black is pretty kick ass
im actually wearing an orange shirt right now! lol
its a camo orange pattern but i like to wear colorful shirts sometimes
i just dont like the new rams colors
like you said, the yellow and blue are too pastel, like some soccer jersey or something and the logo is lame
oh yeah, f'dean spanos!
but yeah kronk'man, GO RAMS

Yeah, it’s kind of amazing that cali brings in so much tourist revenue but they still have steep state income taxes, unlike Florida where their tourist revenue lets them have no state income tax. That’s something that’s a consideration for pro athletes, that lack of state income tax letting them make more money in FL or TX, unlike in NY or CA.
You make a good point that with the pandemic and loss of tourist revenue, how are govt’s supposed to pay their bills? Either the local taxpayers do or the fed govt has to bail them out with loans…

Yeah, when the bears go navy blue with their colors it makes it seem like black and orange; still not as good looking as the bengal’s black and orange imo tho.
Camo orange? Is that an oxymoron? How are u supposed to be able to blend into the background while wearing orange?

Any good tv shows or movies you’ve been watching lately? Ive been checking out the Last Dance on espn about the Michael Jordan bulls, it’s been good reminiscing about the greatest period in Chicago sports history. Since the Jordan bulls the blackhawks have won 3 stanley cups and the white sox and cubs each won a world series, that’s about it for titles tho.

not really watching much of anything on tv right now
i have that little rascals dvd that keeps me entertained while i eat lunch and last night we caught the svenghouli show (attack of the giant mantis)
every now and then i see they are rebroadcasting old sports games
i hear soccer is opening up training camps next week but we will see when baseball or something like that opens up
i think its called blaze orange btw but i wear them when i mountain bike or want to stand out; i also have a lime green colored one too
in a lot of places its not uncommon to wear safety color when you go out in the backcountry
plus it looks pretty bad ass
here is a pic of a coyote we ran into a couple weeks back on a trail colse to home
he dident seem to be too afraid of us so he kind of stuck around for a bit

california is just a big shit show as far as the public sector goes
when my mom and dad first came to the state back in the day, we had the best schools and beautiful open spaces
now the schools suck and the developers want to pave over every strip of green from mexico to orange county
a few friends were talking about that michael jordan documentary but we dont have cable
/i guess i could find it online
are you watching anything else on tv/ movies? how have you been spending your time with covid
hope you have a great day baba, kick ass my man!

Little rascals? There’s a show I haven’t seen in a long time, but I do remember it fondly. The kid with the cowlick, piece of his hair sticking straight up? And they had a pit bull on that show, like a real one, like spuds mckenzie from the bud light commercials? Good times. The Andy Griffith show was a fun one too back in the day.
Oh yeah, I think it’s important to wear something bright when youre biking or hiking, especially at night. Not sure if they allow hunting in cali, but that would also be important when hiking in the woods, make sure hunters see you so theyre not accidentally shooting in your direction.
Ive seen coyotes in this big cemetery near where we live, it’s like a giant park with lots of grass and trees and bunnies and squirrels (food for them), my dog saw one and she’s normally pretty aggressive with other dogs (unfortunately) but she took one look at this full grown coyote that was like twice as tall as her (they got real long legs, better to chase quick prey) and noped the fuck outta there, lol. We walked back to the car and I swear that thing followed us almost the whole way, I wasn’t afraid it was going to attack me but they’ll sometimes kill and eat smaller dogs. I think my dog, at over 40lbs, was a bit too big to just snatch and eat, but I was pretty nervous till we got into the vehicle.

I think the last dance would be most interesting if you were into the nba, and especially if you were a bulls fan. If you had to pick an nba team to follow, would it be the lakers or clippers? I guess the clips used to be in SD…

Lately we’ve been watching Ozark (a Netflix series with Jason bateman about a financial advisor laundering money for a drug cartel) and Succession (an HBO series about a rich media mogul passing on his company to his children), ive been able to download them via bittorrent. If you do use bt, I’d download shows/movies/copyrighted stuff via a VPN, it helps hide what youre downloading from your internet service provider, otherwise you might get warnings from them. There’s free vpn’s available online, it slows down ur speed while connected but u can just use them while dl-ing stuff, and disconnect from them for all other stuff.

thanks for the tip about using a vpn
i did see a thing on youtube called patty mayo, hes this bounty hunter who has some pretty fun clips
it has this real white trash appeal
i remember when the clippers were here in san diego
i was never really a fan of round ball so i will root for anyone really
man, i remember andy griffith
the best part was deputy barney fife, played by the genius don knotts!
i have his movies on dvd and watch those too
the reluctant astronaut is high tech and the ghost and mr chicken is one of the best
so it seems like a bunch of nfl player cant seem to keep out of trouble this past week
wtf is up with all that? #notcovidingright

Heh, ive been binging on old MJ videos and highlights on YT, maybe ill give this bounty hunter a watch also. Is it funny at least?

I love barney fife, remember when they would give him one bullet, that he’d have to keep in his shirt pocket? His gun was unloaded and if he needed to actually shoot someone, they only trusted him with one bullet he had to keep separate from his gun. Funny stuff; u look at some of these body cam videos of super aggressive cops shooting people for no reason, makes u wonder if that should actually be a thing for the stupid or irresponsible cops: keep your gun empty, here’s one bullet you keep in your pocket just in case.

Im only a bball fan because of the Jordan era, it’s my second favorite sport after basketball. Baseball and hockey are a distant 3rd and 4th, so when the sox and cubs and blackhawks won titles in the 2000’s and 2010’s, I was happy for the teams but not really ecstatic about it.

Yeah, I guess a giants and seahawks def backs were charged with armed robbery after a card game gone wrong? I guess their lawyers are trying to say they were just getting their money back after being cheated, and apparently have affidavits from witnesses saying that, so we’ll see how it turns out for them. And Ed OIiver caught a DUI in Houston, where he grew up and went to college. And some redskins WR got arrested for threatening someone and shooting a gun, that was also apparently from a poker game gone bad? Maybe these guys need to stay away from gambling? Or just stick to online or video poker?

deputy fife was classic; don knotts is king in my book
he could pull these funny faces and bust me up with his acting
/i liked him way better than the ropers on threes company
yeah whats with all this back room poker gone bad?
i used to like to play cards and have been to some private games, but what kind of friends cheat you out of money so you would come back strapped up and toss the joint?
the e.oliver things sucks because of the dui, but i bet a lot of nfl players have a ccw or carry on their own
i used to love baseball but that was a long time ago
now im pretty much about the football
you will love the patty mayo, hes this smart ass guy who deals with the cream of the crop bail jumpers
they usually go roll up, lose suspect, look for suspect while dealing with their friends, then tazer face
its pretty fun in a jerry springer kind of way

Heh, I totally forgot that knotts was also in 3’s company, as their landlord. Yeah, he just had the most expressive face, when he’d get shocked or scared, he just gave the funniest looks, no words necessary. He was in some movies? I might have to check those out. Im not really into older movies, although maybe I should. U ever watch old westerns?

I played a few Texas hold em games with coworkers, never lost more than $25-50 in a night, but im guessing these nfl players got hustled or something, lost tens of thousands. Ur right tho, they shouldn’t have let themselves get worked like that, and then only made a bad situation worse by pulling out guns, allegedly.

Ed oliver is from Texas, isn’t it like a state requirement that you have to have a firearm? Kind of like the exact opposite of California, where they don’t want anyone to have guns. But ur probably right, a lot of veteran nfl players probably own weapons, when you’ve got money and fame u become a big target especially in poorer neighborhoods. Michael jordan’s dad got killed in a robbery gone wrong, two 18yr old punks saw him napping in a lexus with 2 big championship rings (replicas his son bought him) and thought he was an easy mark, he probably resisted and got shot for his trouble. Makes me think if he had just given up his car and jewelry and wallet he might still be alive today.

Ive seen a preview of patty mayo, does he have a regular tv show or is all his stuff on YT? He’s running around in body armor with an ar-15, a hummer with emergency lights, it’s a far cry from Dog the bounty hunter, who I think only carried pepper spray (and body armor).

patty mayos gun shoots pepper balls!
i think he might be a sheriff or something like that too but in most ones ive seen he is acting as a bail bonds man
they have tasers and there are a couple of other people who do the show too
check it out
we will see how the league reacts to these players braking covid
never bet more than you can lose and they totally made things worse by trying to get their money back like that
california has stupid gun laws but there is only so much you can do

Heh, im watching some of those mayo vids and looking him up, and isn’t this all staged? Which yknow, if it’s entertaining I guess that’s all that matters really. I think sometimes he wears a sheriff’s deputy uniform but his local Oregon sheriff says he’s not a member of their dept. If it’s all a film production and the people he’s ‘arresting’ are actors too then it’s all legal, and probably way more entertaining (and safer) than following real bounty hunters. Ill keep giving it a watch, it’s always fun to see fools being tazed.

Yknow, it’s not a good look for the league that you’ve got like 4 players being arrested on gun charges, but for the most part the players have stayed out of trouble the last year and a half. I think ive heard that if you account for demographics, nfl players get arrested less frequently than the regular populace. We’ll see what happens with these dudes, if they truly are guilty they’ll be punished for it. When keeping it real goes wrong, eh?

IL probably has the 2nd most restrictive gun laws in the country, next to California. At least here u can apply for a concealed weapons permit and so long as ur background is clean you’ll get it, I hear in cali u need to be friends with the local sheriff or police chief or have a really good reason (like your ex is stalking u and threatening u) to get issued a carry permit. Also cali has that 10 round max magazine capacity, which seems stupid because cant someone just take out the plastic limiter in a magazine to restore it to full capacity? Really, gun laws only limit the citizens who actually follow laws, the criminals or homicidal maniacs who intend on breaking laws anyway aren’t going to be really hindered.

wait, what?! the patty mayo is bunk
i havent head that its all staged and just thought he was a bail bonds man
if its all fake, (a'la reno911) then its just mediocre
ca gun laws are stupid, especially the capacity limits and the bullet button
/there is an after market for high capacity magazines, plus old stuff is grandfathered in
its a very bad look for the nfl to have so many players charged with gun crimes and the rog will def be coming down with the ban hammer
looks like a few front offices might be opening up here soon
we will have to wait and see
stay safe brother and hope you are having a great day!

Yeah, I know, it seems pretty real, and im not sure if he’s admitted it’s all staged, but there’s enough evidence out there if you look that it’s not legit. Doesn’t mean it isn’t entertaining though, and at least this way, he’s not actually harming people even though pretty much every arrest he’s having to wrestle or taze dudes. If those fights were real I think there’d be a lot more injuries – cuts, bleeding, even broken bones or concussions. Every time I see those arrest videos where a cop bodyslams a person onto concrete, u have to wince, that’s pretty dangerous, people can die if you slam them on the ground head first like that. At least patty mayo aint putting people into the hospital and getting sued over excessive force.

I had to look up what a bullet button was, didn’t realize cali’s assault weapons ban prevented detachable magazine unless it was only removeable with a ‘tool’, and a bullet is a ‘tool’ under the law, so you can have a detachable mag if u can only remove it with a bullet tip, not a finger. Crazy stuff. I guess if you only collected WW2 and older guns, a lot of those had internal magazines so maybe theyre compliant under cali law.

I hear TX, CA and FL are planning to re-open sports soon, so that’ll be nice. Maybe the NBA will come back, MLB will start in a month or so, and the NFL can start training camp on time. That would definitely be a plus. Also, if you have Netflix I think u can see the Last Dance on there soon, it was a joint espn-netflix production.

ah thats crap about patty mayo
i trust your take and if you think its fake its fake
/kind of explains the way some of the people act
i hear a lot of states are saying they are open to sports and we will see what happens
i think baseball is the one to make the first move; if its safe for sports, then reopen baseball and see hw they do it
but the major leagues have a responsibility to their fans and players so i thing they are going to error on the side of caution
here in california, the indian casinos are opening back up and a lot of cities are chomping at the bit to reopen too
its though to balance peoples need to make a living and public health
the bullet button is another example of california stupid, but its the state that makes the rules
thinking of grilling up some burgers tonight and making some fries
hope you are having a great day baba'
