Yeah, jacobs is an inspiring story, a person who came from nothing, as much as that’s possible in a country like the US, and is now rich and successful. Hopefully he’s wise and conservative with his money. Often when poor folk come into a large quantity of money they spend profligately, to make up for the privation they experienced earlier. A little of that is fine and expected (he should enjoy himself, he worked hard and earned it) but he needs to save and invest most of it to ensure he doesn’t go broke after football.

Im excited to see if Mariota can unseat Carr as the starter at some point during the season. If the offense fails to score in a half at any point during the season, don’t be surprised to see gruden make the switch.

Rampage was a cool game when it came out, didn’t they make a movie of it with the Rock a couple years ago? With the giant ape, and the lizard? Ive kind of wanted to see it but haven’t made the effort, maybe when it comes to tv…

Im outside the 45 and under demo but not by much. Still, I feel positively ancient compared to 20-somethings, as the aches in my body will tell you. And yet, I feel immature, like im still a teenager, as my woman will tell you. I guess im just a man-child.

Sounds like it’s summer already where u live, Pop. Does it ever get into 90’s or 100’s much? Im thinking the avg during the summer for most temperate areas is in the 80’s, and if the humidity isn’t too high it’s really not too bad, could even go without A/C if u got enough of a breeze going. I installed a lot of ceiling fans in my homes for that reason, would rather run a fan than AC if it’s not too hot.

Draft turned out pretty interesting even though none of the top 5 picks got traded, redskins and lions both stayed and picked as expected, chase young and jeff okudah respectively. Tua went to Miami, who didn’t have to trade up to get him. Herbert went to chargers with the next pick, maybe he’ll get some starts during the season, Im thinking the offense will probably stall under tyrod at some point and Lynn will see what the rookie can do.
One surprise was the packers trading up to pick Jordan love in the first rd, instead of getting another weapon for Rodgers in a receiver heavy draft they picked his eventual successor. But im guessing it’s more for insurance, Rodgers has been getting hurt almost every year recently and the team is poo without him, it’d be nice for the club if they could play at least .500 ball until he comes back. Having a backup QB who isn’t terrible is key to that, and if he develops into a great player, then taking over when rodgers hits 40 is icing on the cake.

Cowboys loaded up on weapons for dak by taking ceedee lamb at #17, I guess dak will throw for 5k yds (he just barely missed that mark last season) and 40 tds this year? And make jerruh pay him 40M/yr?

What surprises did you find from the draft?

happening fellas!? hope everyone had a great weekend

so we arent that much apart in age then baba' im just south of fifty but ike you said the mrs is convinced im 12
they did make a movie about rampage, i saw it and it wasnt that bad
one of the best things about that one is you can play with up to four people and me and the boy used to team up with my nephew and rampage together
so it looks like more places here in socal are having you wear a face cover when you go out in public
its been on and off here in san diego for the past couple months, (do you ahve to, what about in your car?) but i think now its on
i have this neck gator i carry now, at night i wear it around my neck but yesterday it was too hot so i would just carry it in my hand and then shield my face when people walked by
its also kind of cool because it has a california state flag on it; the mrs has several of her own in different colors
/ we would bring them with us camping before all this covid stuff
do you have to wear anything when you go outside?
still a lot to digest from this years draft and you really dont know what you have until the pads hit the player, but im not happy with the rams drafting a rb with their first pick in the 2nd round (#52; who goes #53: jalen hurts)
/right now we have goff and wolford; hurts would have been a great addition @qb i think
i like the receiver we picked up, v.jefferson; he fills the slot position vacated by cooks
i think az actually had a great draft picking up simons @#8; they might have reached but it dident look like a lot of teams were really dealing at the top of the draft
/im also factoring in they traded their 2nd round pick in one of the best receivers in the nfl
more taeks to come im sure
overall i kind of liked the stay at home of the draft and enjoyed the less formal look
lots of highlights including b.belickicks dog and all the kids stuff going on behind the scenes

hope you guys are safe and doing well

There is a requirement here to wear masks in public, but ive been masking and gloving it for the past few weeks now so no biggie for me. The neck gaiter thing looks cool though, even better if it has some nice logos you want to rep.

You’re only as old as u feel imo, Pop, so even into our 60’s if you take care of yourself u should feel pretty good, but those nagging aches and pains will probably never go away fully.
Im not sure I ever played the coop mode on rampage, I only remember playing it in the arcade as a kid, not sure if I ever played coop with a buddy but coop mode is usually my favorite way to game, why beat each other up all the time when you can work together?

Im speculating here but it seems like snead and mcvay wanted to replace the loss of gurley and cooks by selecting cam akers and van Jefferson with their first two picks (both 2nd rd). I think a lot of rams fans agree with u though, that brown/Henderson would be enough to handle the RB workload, and josh Reynolds fills that 3rd receiver spot (behind woods and kupp) nicely, so they should have focused on OL or LB with their best picks. They did get a LB from ‘Bama in round 3 though, but didn’t draft an OL till round 7.
The Rams did sign 2 qb’s as undrafted free agents (UDFA’s), Bryce perkins from virginia and a kid who grew up in Orange County, josh love from San Jose State. He’s actually the J. Love who won Mountain West Offensive player of the year this past season, not Jordan Love from Utah State who went to the packers in the 1st rd.

Arizona had a great offseason, with getting deandre Hopkins and Isiah Simmons, ‘Zona and Tampa Bay are universally regarded as the two teams having done the most to improve their teams through free agency and the draft. Tampa finished 7-9 last season, maybe 12-4 isnt out of the question for them with Brady and Gronk and Wirfs on offense?
Cardinals finished 5-10-1 last year, with the 4th most points allowed, maybe simmons gives them a makeover on defense and theyre at least average, 8-8 is plausible. Anything better than 8-8 would be tough with the 49ers, seahawks and rams in the division.

My woman liked seeing people’s homes during the broadcast, thought it was interesting although she thought goodell was very boring, said they needed some entertainer or actor to announce the picks, liven it up a bit. I was just surprised by how often coaches and gm’s had their kids with them in their home office, im guessing maybe their job doesn’t require so much focus after all? :nono:

im ok with rams other picks overall, well except waiting until the 7th rnd to draft on the ol
i just felt like there were better players available when we drafted with our first pic in the 2nd rnd
speaking of getting old, so with one of their 2nd rnd pick, indi drafts m.pittman jr out of usc
i knew this guys dad! i used to lift with his older brother dwayne and he was a beast in the weight room
we all thought he had the biggest arms until we met his little brother michael
i hope his son goes on to have as much success and michael pittman in the nfl
/rivers has good history with big bodied receivers
i think az and tampa'brady look the best coming out of the off season
i still think new orleans is the team to beat in the south and atl might be a player, but its always fun when you have two hof players going head to head
/no just pick up jamis crabcakes for depth
so whats your take on chitowns draft, did you guys really need a te that bad?
in addition to all the face masks and gloves im seeing a lot of those plastic barriers at stores now, even in the nicer parts of town
/ feel like the wild west out here with all the barriers and masks when you go out in public
it was fun watching the behind the scenes part of the draft
i think by the time the actual pick went in it was already decided whom the team would take
/i was watching this covid benifit also with a bunch of current and former players during the draft and they had the giants new qb on the video chat
at one point hes just kind of laconic about the giants pick, will they take a qb or trade down or what
he later confesses that he knew who the pick would be all along but was just trying to play it cool
/everyone could see through his tell and gave him a hard time about being a bad poker player
hope you have a great day man

The rams have a lot of OL on the team already but none of them really stand out, even Andrew whitworth, at 38yo, hasn’t been elite in a couple years. But they had some injuries along the line last season so im guessing that the team thinks, with better health, that the line will perform well enough even with the same guys?

I remember pittman too, guy was a beast at Tampa Bay. He rushed for 100+ yds in the Bucs Super Bowl win in ’03, in Gruden’s first year as coach there. Yeah dude, u know ur getting old when the sons of your favorite players growing up are now getting drafted into the league. Antoine Winfield Jr also got drafted this year, and I remember his dad being a pretty good DB in the league back in the day (early 00’s). I guess the next stop is when the grandkids of the players I grew up watching start entering the league, sigh…

The colts quietly had a great offseason; they upgraded (assuming he’s still got some juice left) at QB with Rivers, drafted two future starters with Michael pittman jr and jonathan taylor, the stud RB from Wisconsin, traded for deforest buckner. They really did a makeover on their team and project to be really good next season, assuming good health. Rivers did have Vincent Jackson to throw to, as well as Antonio gates (TE, not WR, but still) so yeah, he definitely has a comfort level with just chucking it up there and hoping his guy comes down with it.

The nfc south did a little bit of QB musical chairs, bridgewater going from the saints to the panthers, Winston going from the bucs to the saints. Im going to say the bucs will win 12 games next year, with the saints right there at 11-12 wins also. Those saints-bucs games will be epic.

Well, a lot of jokes are being made cause the bears had like 9 tight ends on the team, and then drafted another one in the 2nd round in Cole Kmet, the notre dame TE. But I think it’s a situation like the kickers last year, where in the offseason youre just loading up on prospects and waiting to see the cream rise to the top. Of course the bears aren’t going to bring 10 TE’s to training camp, more like half that number, and other than jimmy graham, shaheen and kmet, no one’s guaranteed a spot on the team. I do have an issue with ryan pace, the bears GM, giving graham a 2 yr contract at 8M/yr. Dude stole 22M from the packers over the last 2 years, averaging 500yds and 2.5 tds a year. He was the highest paid TE in the league last year, making more than travis kelce and zach ertz. And pace gave him another high end contract? A travesty, only good thing is that it’s pretty much a 1yr deal (‘only’ 9M is guaranteed) so once he inevitably sucks again the bears can cut him loose.

time marches on brother and all we can do is just enjoy the ride
im with you about the how the nfc.s is going to be red hot this year
i would not be surprised to see the colts as one of the strong wild card teams candidates; the raiders/titans would be my other choice
im sure you guys will pair down at the te position, but maybe there was some better talent on the board
the rams o'line is b grade at best; thats assuming some young guys step up
goff isnt really a mobile qb so we will see how mcvay runs his offense this season
/if there was a time for boy genius ideas, that time would be now
im hoping the defense will keep us in a few games but the nfc.w looks like it is going to be tough
we will see hoe the rams look this year and if nothing else you just kind of hang on and embrace the suck

Niners added. The rams lost a lot of players and didn’t add much, same with Seattle.
NFC West will be 1. 49ers 2. Cardinals 3. Seattle 4 Rams

Sorry but they have no weapons and no defense

glad to see you posting man! nothing to be sorry for
/youre just calling em like you see them
the rams are sliding backwards and need to get their game together
9ers lost d.buckner but picked up a DT in the first and i like them adding another wide out in the first as well
i dotn see them going 13-3 again but they are the team to beat in the nfc
we will see what kind of year az has but they should be a lot better with all the fire power they have added
if k.murray continues to develop, expect them to have a much better season
a lot is riding on goff; if he can take another step forward i think the rams can compete but the nfc.w is going to be tough this season

Just checking in, fellas. Pop and Baba, you guys really got me doing some creative cooking. I made a nice peanut sauce the other day. That was peanut butter, Scriracha chili sauce, some honey and a little bit of sesame oil. Just poured it over some spaghetti noodles.

this covid thing is crazy
that peanut sauce sounds pretty grinding man, almost like a thai noodle thing
i bet if you used a thinner noodle like angel hair it would be just like a pad thai;just throw on some fresh green onions and crushed peanuts and its on brother!
so whats your take on the colts so far? looks like they have been making a lot of moves for the better this off season

Cam akers is a pretty studly RB so maybe the rams thought that using a 2nd rd pick on him would be better than using it on an O-Lineman, the difference between a 2nd rd and 7th rd OL is not as big as the difference between a 2nd rd and 7th rd RB?
Also, if the rams use mostly 2 TE sets this year, which was their most effective formation at the end of last season, then having elite OL isn’t as important when you have that extra TE to help with blocking. At least, in theory?
I subscribe to the john madden school of team-building, which is much like planning a Thanksgiving meal. Side dishes and desserts are nice and really complete the meal, but you don’t want to neglect the meat and potatoes. The meat and potatoes have to form the backbone of the meal, and the sides and desserts complement that foundation.
Same with team building, you want to have strong lines on both sides of the ball, and once you have sufficient beef then you can complete the team with skill guys. If youre getting pushed around on the line of scrimmage, ur elite QB wont have time to throw to his elite WRs, or your elite RB keeps getting tackled in the backfield.

Les Snead has a decent draft record, his big problem is the contracts he hands out are too big and way too early. With Gurley, he gave him a record setting extension 2 years before he had to, with cooks overpaid him a year earlier than he had to, and he could have waited till after last season to extend goff. Goff had a down year last season so maybe the rams could have lowballed him on an extension afterwards instead of giving him top Qb money (30+M/yr) before the season started.
I guess a GM is really popular with players when they reward top performers sooner rather than later, but if it ends up hurting your team in the long run (cant afford good FA’s, or can’t afford to resign your other good players) then he’s not doing his job properly. Belichick has no loyalty or sentimentality towards his players and has 6 rings in 20 years. He’s left a lot of bruised and hurt feelings when he’s cut or traded good players during those 20yrs but if that’s the price for winning 6 rings, imo it’s well worth it. Of course, now that he’s let the goat leave, we’ll see how much he wins now.

49ers added a DT to replace buckner with the 1st rounder they got from the colts, and traded up to draft a WR later in the 1st rd, brandon aiyuk from az state. Aiyuk isn’t particularly big or fast – he ran a 4.5 40yd dash at the combine, but he may have been healthy, he had core muscle surgery afterwards but before the draft. He does have crazy long arms, he’s got the wingspan of a 6’9” person even though he’s barely 6ft tall. He also had a 40inch vertical, top 5 among WRs at the combine, so he’s got explosiveness, maybe when he’s fully healthy he’s more of a 4.3-4.4 guy than 4.5. Regardless, he’s got special teams value too, he was one of the top punt returners in college as well. 49ers also traded away marquise Goodwin (fast and talented but always injured, lots of concussions) and matt breida (also talented, also prone to injuries) during the draft, this helps define the roles for the players they keep. Coleman and mostert will handle the RB touches, with jerick mckinnon maybe finally ready to contribute after 2yrs of being hurt and well paid. Deebo Samuel is their #1 WR and an emerging star, had some big plays in the playoffs, and aiyuk may be a great #2 WR but kittle is really the #1 or 2 receiving option on that team, he’s basically Gronk-lite, a great blocker and receiver at TE. Shanahan wants the niners to lean heavily on the run game so having lots of good receivers isn’t as necessary for them to score bunches of points.

I think predicting AZ to be the 2nd best team in the West is a real hot take, but it’s possible if Isiah simmons is the truth. Simmons is supposed to be able to line up anywhere from LB to safety to nickel corner to edge rusher, so maybe he’ll be the swiss army knife to unlock the defense’s potential – Patrick Peterson is still a good corner, and chandler jones is a top 10 pass rusher, so theyre not devoid of talent. I still have the hawks and rams behind the niners; I agree with pop that SF isn’t likely to go 13-3 again. Nick bosa is a game wrecker, I’d rank him as a top 3 EDGE rusher, along with Khalil mack and tj watt (aaron Donald and jj watt are Def Tackles, not DE’s or OLB’s). But im not sure u can expect him to play 16 games every season, he’s likely to miss 3-4 games this year because of minor or nagging injuries.

Thanks, pop. I don't know about the Colts, I'm still trying to process Andrew Luck retiring. Seriously, what a blow!

Yeah, I was going for a Thai thing, and I was regretting that I didn't have some thinner noodles and some green onions. I did trhow a handful of dry roasted peanuts in there, I should have crushed them a little. But still, it came out pretty good for a first try. When you put this chili sauce (not the kind in the squirt bottle, the stuff in the little jars) in the peanut butter, it seems like it's never gonna blend. But after a couple minutes, the peanut butter starts to get creamy, (I had mine in the fridge), and it all gets really smoothed out. Add the honey and sesame oil to thin it out a little further, and you never have to put it on the stove. That peanut butter and chili sauce combo is really satisfying.

its been a wild off season jelly and there is a lot to put back together
there are still a couple big free agents floating around and now it looks like l.fournette could hit the market soon
/if the rams could pick him up on a team friendly deal i would be all in
can you tell a difference between the sauce in those squeeze bottles and the chili sauce in the jars? the girl and the mrs eat that stuff up like crazy and i think the chili sauce in the jars is stronger but its all too hot for me now days (even with the honey to cut some of the heat)
sounds like a great sauce you got there and i bet it would be good for dipping things in too

regardless of position, i think n.bosa is one of the top defensive play makers in the nfl
you are right about his one main weakness is his injury history
i think losing brieda take some of the speed out of the backfield but mosert has wheels
and we will see if he can shoulder the load be being the teams feature back
there was a lot of talent available at the wr spot this year and the 9ers passed on some top names before they landed aiyuk
i think you are right that he will definitely be getting some action in on special teams
i think kittle is one of the top-5 te in the game right now
so it looks like they are relaxing a lot of the restrictions they had when they closed a lot of the public beaches and parks this weekend
we will see how it goes but they did the same thing last week in orange county and it dident go so well
of course most beaches will be just fine but i can see a few of the beaches here (pb and mission beach) becoming over crowded
its going to be a nice weekend and spring is in the air

Ur still trying to get over Luck’s retirement, Jelly? That must have hit u hard, it’s been almost a year and a whole season has passed since that happened. But yknow, maybe maybe, if gronk can retire cause of injuries and then un-retire to join brady in “Tompa Bay”, then there’s a chance Luck un-retires. But with rivers in the QB room, making 25M this season, how would that work? Could it work?

Never understood the whole spicy-sweet thing, but ive heard of people liking chili stuff on peanut butter so it must be a good combo. Have u guys ever tried Lao Gan Ma spicy chili oil? It’s a really popular condiment in china, I think the lady who started the company is a billionaire, it’s this condiment made out of chilis and garlic and peanuts, roasted in oil. It looks super hot but it’s not really spicy at all, has a bit of residual heat at the end but nothing scorching. My woman and my mom both like it a lot and they avoid spicy food.

During the playoffs and at the end of the regular season, mostert was killing it, scoring most every week, couple hundred yard games, including 220 yds and 4 rush td’s vs the packers in the NFC championship.
With him and Tevin coleman and jerick mckinnon in the backfield, there are only so many carries to go around, and getting a 5th rd pick from the dolphins for a player they signed as an UDFA (undrafted free agent) was a good return for a player they would probably have to cut later anyway.

Aiyuk didn’t get as much hype as the Lamb, Jeudy, Ruggs, Justin Jefferson tier of college WRs, but all 4 of those guys were gone when the niners traded up to #25 for aiyuk. Supposedly lynch, the niners gm, had Aiyuk ranked as highly as ceedee lamb. Deebo Samuel was a 2nd rd rookie last year and had 60 catches for 800yds with 6 td’s (3 rushing) so if he takes that second year leap, and aiyuk is the next torry holt, maybe garoppolo and the niner’s passing offense can lay some wood on opposing defenses this year, make them pay if they stack the box to stop that zone running attack.

In IL there’s a ‘relaxed’ stay at home order, more businesses are allowed to be open but if you’re in public indoor spaces u have to wear a mask. U see lots of people out at parks and beachfronts, trying to get outside, tired of being cooped up at home. So long as everyone’s wearing a mask if groups get close to each other it should be ok. i dont see luck coming back
he has plenty of money to live his life in riches and i hear he is very happy being a dad
luck was always one of those trow back players in my eyes, one of the new gen who dident blow up social media and just went out and played good football
/do you think he has enough chops to make hof?
good on him and i wish him and his family the best
they are opening more places here too and san diego is doing a good job so far
not too much crowding and people seem to be respecting social distancing rules with a smile
for the 9ers to pick up one of the top receivers, they would have had to flip the script up and use their first pick on a wr and then trade back to get their d'lineman
it might have worked but i think they did well in this years draft
speaking of spicy chili and peanuts, i have to get a pick of this snack my mom brought home last time she went overseas
it was a peanut and chili pepper mix that was amazing with a little heat but a ton of flavor
i guess they cut the chilis up and then fried them,( so they were pretty mild) and then mixed in peanuts
oh man, i could smash on a whole bag of those in a good night
turns out it was a topping you put over a dish, (i cant read what the bag says) but they were so good to just snack on out of the bag

No, he's not coming back. The peanut butter with chili sauce- the peanut butter both softens the heat and makes it last longer, if that makes sense.

Everyone says he’s not coming back but im not sure, yknow, he’s still young (will turn 31 in Sept), if he’s healthy I can totally see him getting the itch to play again. And ur right Pop, he’s not the type to blow his money on yachts and jets, so he wouldn’t come back for the money although 30M a year is nice compensation for doing what you love.
Maybe give him another year away from the game, like Michael Jordan with baseball, once he realizes how much he misses the game he’ll be able to better appreciate what he had.
Of course, he did get married and have a daughter last year, and is enjoying being a husband and dad from all reports. He’d have to give up a lot of family time if he wanted to play football again, but it’s possible to be a great athlete and a good parent, he can always make up for missed family time during the offseason.
I don’t know, I just want to see him wreck defenses again. That ability to just will his team to come back from deficits, only a very few qb’s can do that consistently and he’s one.

Weren’t there some near riots when authorities tried to close down beaches in California? Well, maybe not riots, but the beach folk really love their space, and woe upon them who try to deny it.

So the 1st round picks from the 2017 draft class are up for their 5th year options this month, teams have to decide whether they want to exercise it now even though this upcoming season will be their 4th yr in the league. Guys like mahomes and deshaun Watson are easy decisions to pick up their 5th yr options while also still trying to reach long term extensions with them. Trubisky and Fournette and most other 1st rounders have had their 5th years denied, so they’ll be free agents after the 2020 season. If they ball out this year they’ll stand to make a bunch of money, if not then they’re probably looking for backup jobs next offseason.

Made a brisket over the weekend, it was mostly rain-free. Started in the cooker and made it about 8-9 hrs before the fire died. Don’t know why it died, looked like there was still plenty of fuel and I made sure that sucker was well-lit before putting the meat on, had it going with the top open for half an hour, most of the coals looked white (meaning it was burning), yet it still died out hours later.
Not to be undone however I popped the meat into the oven set at 215F, and 8 hrs later had a really nicely done brisket, still had that nice smoke flavor, very tender and juicy and able to be pulled apart and sliced thin.
