This is the last year of ekeler’s contract, he’ll be a free agent next season. They got josh kelley as the backup plus a couple other guys. Ur right, you would think if he scores 15+ tds again they would be quick to re-sign him but with the way RB contract are nowadays, what if they think I can sign 1 or 2 guys for 2-4M total instead of paying 8-10M for ekeler? Or draft some college guy next year with fresh legs, or even go the undrafted route, ekeler himself was undrafted, a fair number of 49er RBs were undrafted.

Also look at craigslist and FB marketplace for used grills, just a quick search around chicago I saw a used charcoal grill/smoker for $20, a new in box smoky joe like Pops has for $30. You want charcoal or a gas grill, hawk? U have a ready supply of wood? I guess charcoal isnt that expensive either.

A buddy of mine wants to go to bears training camp in lake forest, a chicago suburb, sometime next month. I might go with him, check it out, maybe get some autographs. U guys ever been to a TC before?

a small weber kettle is the way to go man! perfect for one or two people and dosent take a lot of coals
so a brand new weber smokey joe only costs like $45 for the basic model,so $30 isnt a bad deal
i would offer them $25 cash and have them meet me half way so i dont have to drive that all that far

it was a small complex so you could get super close to the action, like standing on a chain link fence close

we live close to the coast so the temps arent that bad even now during the heat wave gripping the sw
it might get up into the 80's today but it cools down to like 68 in the evening
i open up all the windows early in the monring and let in the cool air then button that shit up until its evening, then open the windowns again
i make a rocking country fried steak
plus you gotta mash them taters and get that white country gravy going to smother that shit up
you could also sub in chicken breast if you want and it come out just as grinding
maybe with herbert signing for big$$ eckler can hope for a new deal but like you said, i think right now the rb spot is so undervalued that they might just say f'it and go cheap like you said
maybe herbert will petition the boss to keep his check down in the roster next season depending on how they play out this year

That’s cool that a smokey joe is so cheap and does everything u want for small meals.
Ive never been to a TC so we’ll see how it is, im not looking forward to broiling in the sun so hopefully it’s a little cloudy or even cool that day but early august it’s not likely.
I figured u didn’t have a/c, lots of places don’t have ac like Pac northwest, canada, the U.K., places that rarely get above 80 and if they do it’s very brief u don’t really need a/c, like u said open windows and turn on fans or hang outside in the shade.

F spanos. One thing they discussed during their RB zoom call was that it’s actually counterproductive to have a really good season as a RB because then the team can say well that’s extra wear and tear on ur body and we’re not going to pay u. So if ekeler has another great season they might say that’s 3 years of hitting, no way we’re giving you a long term deal and a raise.

U can smoke in a kettle grill, it has air holes you can adjust to real low, 250 or less. Just make sure all the coals are fully lit, not just at the edges, then turn the air flow down until u hit desired temp and keep it there. And the smoker doesn’t get real hot when it’s that low, not enough to burn wood if it’s touching it, so no worries if u fall asleep. Unless the whole thing gets knocked over somehow but that’s not ur fault.

I guess ‘ludes were like a barbiturate, which are depressant drugs, like alcohol. I guess they offered a nice euphoric high too, if u could deal with the side effects (slowness, drowsiness, etc). They stopped making or selling them in the US decades ago, maybe in europe or africa u can still find some.

Gas doesn’t have the flavor of wood, but maybe hawk doesn’t necessarily like wood flavor in his meat? And gas will at least give the flame broiled flavor and char. But yeah, u gotta hassle with refilling propane tanks and such. And if u smoke meats u still need some sort of wood. Is there such a thing as a smoker that uses propane and wood chips?

I forgot that the chargers could tag ekeler if they don’t agree to a contract after this year until u mentioned it. The franchise tag for RBs is 10M, 2nd lowest to kickers who are at 4-5M. Almost every other position, O line D line LBs etc the tag is 18M and up. So that’s another blow to RBs, theyre getting paid less than everyone but the freaking kickers! Haha and those guys are hardly considered football players. Hell most of them play into their 40’s if theyre good enough, while RBs are lucky to make it to 30. Zeke elliott is 28 and he’s out of a job now, u think he’ll sign with someone?

yeah im not sure but i think there are propane smokers.maybe tregger makes ones.im in the city now and cant really get wood like i used to.when i lived in GA i could get pecan wood.IMO its some of the best wood you can use.but im in Davenport now so it would just be easier doing small time.its basicslly just me.my mom dont eat and is dying.

Yeah, I also think soaking the wood chips in water helps them last longer while smoking. Im sure it doesn’t give you as much smoke flavor as real deal charcoal but even a little helps.

This is why the US needs to legalize drugs cause regulation is the only way to get some control of the market. Far more people are dying from violence (street gang shootings, biker gang and cartel murders here and in Mexico) and poisoning (fent) then if it were actually legal. You definitely make some good points, Pops, and I cant argue that regulation wont have its own unique set of problems. Like alcohol used to be illegal 100 yrs ago, then they made it legal again, and to this day it still causes a lot of problems in this society. Look at hawk’s dad, who’s going to do hard time for a DUI. And I’d say a fair amount of the homeless addicts who are causing problems in american cities have alcohol as their primary vice, so it might or might not be the case that having more accessible hard drugs would make things worse. You could make an argument that it will make things better in that addicts, homeless and otherwise, will take up less first responder and medical resources if the drugs they get are not tainted.
There’s a market for illegal narcotics that is never going away no matter how many people u lock up, and pushing that market into the hands of criminals (who by definition are the most not-giving-a-fuck people on this planet) is, IMO, even worse than regulation. This is why a million people have OD’d in the last 10 yrs on fent-laced dope, why there’s mass graves in mexico, why judges and mayors and police chiefs arent safe there.
Interestingly enough, I think there’s an argument to be made that the cartels DON’T want legalization cause that will remove a lot of their power and profit.
It’s all mostly a moot point anyway, doubt this country will legalize hard drugs any time soon, but it’s fun to debate.

I think the age of consent in IL is 17 so as long as theyre that age or more it’s fine, for the younger ones ill have a countdown clock or something like they used to have for the olsen twins.
