I thought the game was great, very exciting, especially the end. Sad to say, the end was ruined for me when I got a news alert on my tablet about the chiefs ending their championship draught; I had taped the game and was watching it on an hour delay, so fast forwarding through the commercials (even though sometimes theyre more interesting than the game) and was into the 4th quarter, with the chiefs still 10pts down, when I accidentally saw that alert. I still watched the rest of the game and was impressed with the chiefs scoring 3 straight td’s to pull off an 11pt victory after being down 10 with 8mins lefts.
Will the chiefs be a dynasty? Maybe, with mahomes they have aaron rodgers 2.0 (stronger, faster, better) although they’ll need to pay him a bunch of money soon; this offseason they’ll probably extend him for 40M/yr, but the extension wont take place till the year after next.
Still, once he gets paid the megabucks they’ll need to be savvy with their draft picks and FA signings. Theyre already paying tyreek hill a top 5 receiver contract (18M/yr, michael thomas is at 20M/yr and julio jones is at 22M/yr) but his speed opens up a lot of things for reid’s offense. Their Def tackle, chris jones, will be due a big contract this offseason; he came up huge with 3 passes knocked down in the superbowl, including 2 in the 4th quarter when they shut down the niners late. They might franchise tag him and then trade him for draft picks, like they did with dee ford to the niners last offseason.
So to answer your question, they already have the most important part of a dynasty, which is an elite QB, now they need to surround him with talent to make sure they can consistently go on deep playoff runs.
We ordered pizza for the big game, Pop, also two pies with 3 toppings each. Great minds think alike, huh? One was a stuffed pizza with pepperoni, sausage and bacon, and one was a sausage crust pizza (the crust of the pizza was sausage flattened down onto a pie sheet, I guess for those on low carb diets) with extra cheese, spinach and mushroom. I had a coupon for a new pizza place not too far from me, and it was pretty good, might go back there again although I think I prefer giordano’s meat special pizza more.
Im starting to get into the nba now that the nfl is over but I might try checking out some of those xfl games this weekend, Pop, will let you know how that goes…

oh man! both those pizzas look amazing!
is the sausage crust hearty enough to hold up on its own or do you have to eat it with fork and knife?
it fun trying out new places but i find we tend to stick with our favorites most of the time
so im hearing dak is looking for a huge payday and is expecting something north of 30m/y
rumors are swirling about the rams sitting down with gurley and hoping to reach a new deal
/i was hinting at this a while back but now it seems to be something real
i think if he isnt willing to renegotiate they might be better moveing on but its going to cost them either way
i dont see him being in that top tier of qb and am not quite convinced that he is worth that kinf of money
mahomes is definitely going to set the scale for qb when he resigns and sonder what kind of deal he is goign to get
either way he is going to get P-A-I-D!11!
but like you said, this could be the start of chiefs nation taking over and becoming playoff contenders for a long time
they have the elite qb in place and a genius at head coach, but part of the equation will be managing their cap space and getting the most out of what they can afford
i might try and catch some of the xfl if i can
a few friend at work were talking about the round ball and it sounds interesting
there are a couple clipper fans and some golden state guys close to me, plus one of my good friends is a lakers fan that goes way back
i dont tihnk im that into basketball until the playoffs but it still fun to hear their banter
hope you had a great week brother and are looking ahead to an even better weekend

Imagine if Mahomes was willing to take a pay cut like Brady to leave room for other talent...They could dominate for years.

The sausage crust held up on its own, you could pick a slice up by hand and eat it, but there was something unsatisfying about it; I just felt like it needed bread, yknow? But if youre on a keto or carnivore diet, I guess it’s all u can have.
Dak is probably looking for 35+/yr, especially after being underpaid for the first 4 yrs of his career – I think most years he only made 400k (he was a 4th rd draft pick) whereas most top drafted qb’s average 5-7M/yr during their rookie contracts. For example, I think the most he got paid was 800k his rookie year, and baker mayfield as the #1 overall pick got a 19M signing bonus his rookie year.
Plus I think he led the league in passing yrds this past season, so in his mind he’s solidified himself as a top 7-8 QB in this league and he wants to get paid accordingly, QB’s in that tier routinely sign record breaking contracts. Matt ryan got the first 30M/yr contract a couple years ago, rodgers got 32/yr a year ago, russell wilson is at 35/yr now, so his agent is probably starting off at a FLOOR of 35M/yr. We’ll see what happens, the cowboys can franchise tag him for the next 2 years at an average of 36M/yr if they don’t come to an agreement on a contract extension.
Ive heard rumors that david johnson of the cardinals might be released this offseason, but not sure the rams have that ability to get out of gurley’s deal if he doesn’t want to renegotiate. Sure they can waive him but I think they’d have to take a massive 24M dead cap hit to their salary cap next year, meaning if the salary cap comes in next year at about 200M, 1/8 of their cap would be used up by cutting gurley. After 2 years, they can cut him with only a 4M dead cap hit, but until then they cant really threaten to cut him as a negotiating tool. Then again, teams like the raiders and steelers have in recent years taken big cap hits to clear their rosters of undesirable players, so never say never.

I think ur local college, san diego state university, kawhi leonard’s old school, was/is ranked #1 in the nation in college basketball. So that might be something to get excited about, if they can make a deep march madness run…

Brady's wife makes 30-40M/yr being a supermodel, and mahomes' girlfriend is his high school sweetheart, so doubt he'll take much of a discount, at least his agents wouldnt encourage it. He's already won an mvp and a super bowl mvp by age 24, he's got 10-12 years of prime left, and he might be one of the few qb's that can overcome a bad defense with sheer talent (they were the only team in history to win 3 straight playoff games after trailing by double digits), so even without a discount u have to like their odds of getting another ring or 3 so long as reid and mahomes are together and healthy.

People are doing different things with cauliflower these days.. I wonder if that would hold up as pizza crust....

cauliflower is one of my favorite veggies mrBungle
i recently had cauliflower mixed with mashed potatoes and i was impressed!
it had all the goodness of mashed potatoes,(the rich buttery taste and that creamy nice texture) but like half the starch
when the kids were growing up, the mrs would always try and "hide" a vegetable in the kids food and i think cauliflower/mashed potatoes knocks it out of the park
i havent really thought much about it man, but it would be a good option for gluten free diets too or people trying to cut back on tier strches

man, i have to try this sausage crust pizza, baba'!
i hear you about how its dosent check all the boxes, not having a proper crust like that but it sounds good but maybe not something yuo would get all the time
you are so right about dak being underpaid, but hey thats the life of a 4rth rounder
but he is playing like a pro and deserves to be paid like one, but i just dont see him making north of 30m
/esp when old man rivers just hit the market; i bet he would be willing to play for a cap friendly contract, esp if it meant having a chance to contend for a post season spot
the thing about gurleys deal is its going to cost the rams no matter which way they go
but it looks like they might have overreached and need to make some cap space in the enxt few years if they want to keep on track
i like t.gurley and all but he just isnt bringing it like he used to
whats the deal with the new formatting brother? did you get a new phone or something?
so did you check out the xfl games this weekend baba?!?
i have to admit it looks like this tie they got it right and the games werent half bad
its too early to say anything about it
/re: the teams and whos who
but i had fun watching the tv and i could see this being a step towards the nfl having a minor league!
its going to be a long off season but we will see how things go!
hope your week is off to a great start brother

I know there is flour made of cauliflower, not sure if ive ever had it. I have had cauliflower rice, wasn’t too bad from what I recall. I agree with Pop, it doesn’t have a strong taste, so you can hide it in other foods or pretend it’s something else.
Yeah, chargers have announced they wont be re-signing rivers, so he’s free to test the FA market. He moved his family to florida and Tampa is looking for a new QB. Not sure rivers would be the answer, he had 20 ints last year, way less than jameis’s 30 ints last year, but still not much of an upgrade. But maybe a change of scenery will be good. U think he’ll take 10M/yr to play on a contender? Brady didn’t play all that great last year either and maybe he can also bounce back with a different team next year (better weapons wont hurt either) but supposedly brady wants top QB money, he’s sick of taking discounts.
Yeah, it’s not great for the rams that gurley’s big contract kicks in right when he’s no longer an elite RB. Im not sure he was even a top 12 RB in fantasy this past season, at his peak he was #1 and even guys like leveon and zeke werent particularly close. We’ll see what happens with him over the offseason, there’s a chance he can be a top 5 RB again next year, he had some good weeks last year so there’s hope for him yet.
Supposedly jerruh wants a dak deal done by March 10, when dak would become a free agent, so we should find out within the next month if that happens for him and how much it costs. I’m thinking he’s going to get 30+/yr, but I understand why u think he shouldn’t get that much, sure he had some good games last year but against good D’s he didn’t play nearly as well.
Ive been using MS Word to make my posts before pasting into the site, so that’s why the formatting is off, but I think ive figured it out now, have to save it as a .txt file, then pasting it into the site as a text file it defaults to the site’s normal looking font instead of something different.

ive thought about using ms'word or another "word" program to compose my post
it would help with the spelling/syntax mistake and if i closed the window or the machine crashed ( a problem i had with my last computer) i would not lose the whole past
no worries brother and i read every word no matter how its formatted
so rivers is offically a free agent, but also andy dalton of the bengals and it looks like taysom hill of the saints are throwing their hats into the ring
from what im hearign rivers wants to be the #1; he isnt looking to ride the bench and mentor a younger guy (meaning he wants starters money) or being brought into camp to compete for a starting job
good luck to him but i dont see him being the anwser to most teams qb problems for the moeny he will want
/im hearing 20m+
of the three i like t.hill
obviously his age gives him way more upside but he is also way more mobile than either rivers or dalton
/which would help a team still rebuilding
but if its a moblie qb you want, it looks like cam newton is probably going to hit the market soon...
and then there is the draft with a few hot young hands coming out!
its jsut getting started brother and it should be a fun off season

i agree that m.garrett has done his time and i cant wait to see how the browns play next season
they have an all star defense and a lot of weapons on offense
we will see if mayfield is ready to step it up or if he is still...
...
..... wait for it
/snaps back huge bong rip and chugs vodka and mango drink
.........
half baked

its the offseason!

Yeah, i saw a headline about garrett being reinstated this week, good for him. He’ll be able to practice with the team again, have a full training camp and start week 1 this next season. I’d pick him as one of the favorites for DPOY, he’s got 20 sack upside.
What do you think of the brown’s offseason moves, Bungle? Hiring Stefanski as HC (former Minn OC) and replacing john Dorsey as GM with Andrew Berry, who was in the eagles front office? I suppose you wont really be able to tell till after the draft and even the first month of the season how good of a coach/GM they are. Like Pop said, it really all comes down to baker and how he performs, they’ve got some pretty good pieces on defense so they shouldn’t be pushovers on that side of the ball.

Yup, ive lost too many posts on icmag when I accidentally hit the back button or something, so that’s why I started using a text editor/word processing program to draft it and paste it. And it helps with punctuation and spelling, ur right.

You made a good point, that there’s a lot of FA QB’s plus some good ones in the draft so we might see a quarter of the league have new starting QBs in 2020. Bears and Chargers will be active in the QB market, Panthers and Bucs and Raiders might be too, Patriots might need a new QB if brady leaves, Miami and Cincy will probably draft QBs. Maybe most of these transactions wont shake out till after March 10, when Free Agency begins, but im sure we’ll hear about plenty of rumors until then.
Taysom worries me in that he never really got to QB a whole game. Sure he looked good on some trick plays but im not sure he can play a whole game like that. Still, all it takes is one team to fall in love with a QB’s skillset, and ive been wrong before. Also, ur right, Dalton and rivers have their own limitations and worries too, there wont be any sure thing in the QB market, even brady may be over the hill, cam too hurt or easily re-injured, etc etc. So it's all about risk management and figuring out how this QB will fit your team.

thats a great point about t.hill not playing a full game under center so there is another big question mark
im sure he wants qb money, but will he be able to put up the stats as a pure qb?
plus the market is about to get saturated with qb free agents in addition to the draft
/lets add j.brisette to the mix as well
you are right about how its all just smoke on the horizon for now and we wont really know hwats what until 3.10
im not a fna f the churn the browns have experienced in their coaching staff
/how many coaches has baker played under during his short time in the league?
i like the browns on defense and agree that it really comes down to the qb spot to move that team forward
so any plans on watching xfl action this weeeknd baba'?
ive already decided im going to give it a few weeks before i cast my final vote, but so far im enjoying the games and it seems just enough like real football
do you have monday off?

so i know we have a few colts fans here and a browns fan or two; lets hear your takes guys!
same goes for all the rest of you goons out there too

Taysom is almost 30 years old but he’s an RFA, restricted free agent, which means he’s locked into a certain salary based on the compensation the Saints want if another team wants to sign him. I think the saints have put a 2nd round tender on him, meaning another team will have to give the saints a 2nd rd draft pick if they sign him. It’s unlikely any team would do so, given that he’s still relatively unknown as a full time QB. Remember, when brees injured his wrist, it was bridgewater who started 5 games in his absence, not Taysom. On the bright side, taysom will get 3.5M next season and be a UFA after that (unrestricted free agent); bridgewater is probably going to leave the team so if brees gets hurt again taysom should get the starting role and be in line for a big deal for 2021 with the saints (if brees retires) or another team, assuming he does well.

Chargers are reportedly ok with starting tyrod taylor at QB next year if they don’t sign anyone new, he backed up rivers all last year so he’ll have good knowledge of the offense at least. He’ll likely be an iffy passer but adds value with his legs and at least keeps turnovers low, chargers can definitely win with him.

Im going to try to catch some XFL action, maybe tape it if I can or download a copy of the game afterwards. I think the tweaks they’ve made to the rules (kickoffs, point afters, ref reviews, etc) should make things somewhat interesting.
I don’t have Monday (presidents day) off but maybe I’ll play hooky and call in sick?

morning baba'
hope your weekend is off to a great start!
that sucks that you arent getting monday off
it seems presidents day is one of those holidays that is hit or miss with a lot of people
/the mrs is working that day too
but hey, nothing wrong with taking a day off for personal reason if you have the time; call it a mental heath day
wow, i dident know t.hill was that old!a 2nd rounder is a lot to pay for an unproven backup qb and i agree that he will most likely be on the saints roster next season
and i dident even think of t.bridgewater hitting the market
t.taylor is a decent backup qb but i dont know if i would want him starting a whole season
but with the chargers shakey o'line it might be good to have a mobile qb
the chargers draft at the #6 spot and i think there will still be plenty of qb tallent on the board so we will see how they fill the position
hope you have a great weekend man

Yup, President’s day is a federal holiday so post office and banks are closed, schools and govt offices are closed in IL, but a lot of normal businesses are still running.

Im fond of the mental health day, and have taken plenty of them in my time, for sure. But yknow, we just had MLK day, and a bunch of holidays over Christmas/NYE, so I feel good.

Yeah, taysom will turn 30 in August, I think he spent 2 years doing Mormon mission work after high school, then spent 5 years at BYU (got injured one year so had a medical redshirt year in college), so he didn’t get to the nfl till 2017 when he was 27(!), where he went undrafted but latched onto the saints and been on their active roster ever since. So you can see why he wants to be a starter somewhere, his athletic prime will only last so many years, and ur right, he's been impressive in limited work. His ability to run, pass and even catch makes him pretty unique. But as an RFA he doesn’t have much choice with where he goes this year. If he had gotten to the league as a 20-21 year old, like juju smith schuster, he’d be finishing up his 2nd (big) contract around now…

I know what you mean about tyrod taylor, im sure the chargers are looking around at other QBs on the market, they might see if Brady has any interest in moving to LA. Bridgewater might sign a big deal like Foles did (22M/yr, with 2 years guaranteed) for a QB-needy team, chargers might have interest in him too, even at that price. But taylor for the chargers is a solid plan B at least, if they strike out on all the desired QBs (including justin Herbert at #6 in the draft) then at least they’ll go into next season with a fairly decent starter, someone who’s never going to be a top 10 guy but wont be bottom 5 at least (ahem, looking at you, trubisky). happening brother! hope you had a great weekend
so what do yuo think the bears are planning to do with trubinski?
hes getting into the last years of his contract and there looks like a bunch of interesting options about to hit the market at qb
he played just good enough not to get ebnched last season but i really have doubts about if he is the answer moving forward
bridgewater had a decent run filling in for brees last season, but he only looked so so when he was up in minnisota; think it would be a reach to sign to a big contract right now
but there might be enough teams looking for a ready to play starter that he just might find himself a few offers
i agree that t.taylor is a capable backup and it gives the chargers the option of drafting a new qb and letting him season a bit before putting him into the starting rotation

Yeah Jelly, supposedly the Colts will sign Phillip Rivers, their Off Coor used to work with rivers on the chargers. Not sure where that leaves Brissett, theyre not going to pay him 15M to back up rivers, he’ll likely have to take a pay cut to stay on the team.

The bears will definitely bring in some competition for mitch this year, whether it’s andy Dalton or cam newton or someone, anyone, else. Chase Daniels was pretty bad himself when he started when trubisky hurt his shoulder each of the last 2 years, so he can go and be a backup on some other team.
Bridgewater supposedly wants high end starter money, like 30M/yr, which would be too rich for the bears. Not sure which team would give him something that big, ur right, he wasn’t exactly setting the league on fire when he was starting in Minny – his last season before he got hurt, I had him as my 2nd QB in a 2-QB league and he finished the season with 14tds/8 ints, those are like low end starting QB numbers. He had some pretty decent games filling in for brees, especially once he got some 1st team practice reps in, but that may be mostly due to sean payton’s playcalling and all the talent they have on offense (Michael Thomas was the WR1 this year). Ur right, bridgewater on a much worse team wouldn’t look nearly as good.

Also with trubisky, I guess the bears only decision with his contract is deciding this offseason whether to pick up his 5th year option, which would guarantee him 24M in 2021 (2020 will be his 4th year in the league). Theyre certainly not going to open the bank for him like the chiefs will do with mahomes or the Texans with Watson this offseason (both drafted in 2017, same as mitch). I guess you pick up mitch’s 5th year if you think he can play more like 2018 than 2019…

thats a tough call to exercise trubinskis 5th year
i think if you are paying north of 20m, you should be getting a lot more production out of the qb spot
cam would be a great fit in chicago in my opinion
i mentioned it late last season how i felt that the cats werent going to hang on to cam; too much money and too many injuries
but i could see him doing better in another system
rivers to indy would be a lateral move at best
rivers isnt that much ebtter than jacoby brissett
he has the experience, but thats about all i can say about him
/mind you this experience has not been winning divisional titles or leading teams to big wins; its just more years under his belt
i think the colts would be better off sticking with j.brissett and building up the other parts of the team
plus like you said, if the colts sign rivers and hold on to brissette, they have at least 35m+ invested in the qb spot between the two
/that is serious money to be paying for a dried up old man rivers and a bench player basically
hope you are having a great week baba and things are starting to warm up
so have you been smoking anything good lately?

glad to see you drop in j'fish
we are definitely in off season mode but the xfl has provided a soft landing for us football junkies
so what do you think the colts need to win?
would a new qb be the answer or should they be looking to fill another hole in the roster?

Bababooey

Horse-toothed Jackass

Ur totally right, u don’t want to be paying 20+M for bottom 5 QB production, not when you can get that kind of production from a 5M backup QB, or a cheap rookie (less than 1M/yr). It’s really Mitch’s make or break year this next season, if he’s able to put together decent numbers and start the whole year even if they bring in veteran competition (cam or andy or whoever) then he’ll likely get a big contract extension. If he’s up and down or fades away like Mariota last year, then he’ll be lucky to get a backup job after the bears release him.
I remember you saying cam would be good for the bears, and that’s been one of the rumors going on among sports journalists, but after kyle allen and will grier played badly down the stretch for the panthers, I thought they would be more inclined to keep cam even with the injury risks, knowing they didn’t really have a viable starter at QB other than him. But they have a new coach now, a college guy from baylor, matt rhule. Rhule hired the LSU passing game coordinator to be his Off Coor, so maybe they want a pure pocket passer instead of a running QB?

Rivers had a really bad 2nd half of the season last year, think he had a stretch of 10 ints in 3 games, a career high for him. On the other hand, he’s only 38-39, and guys like brees and brady had top 5 seasons at that age, so if he’s not completely washed he could offer the colts an upgrade. At least on the colts he would have much better pass protection than he had on the bolts.

I caught some of the DC xfl game last weekend, was pretty much a blowout (27-0?) by the DC team. Think matt mcgloin was qb’ing the other team, said they needed to scrap the gameplan going into halftime, came out for the 2nd half and he immediately threw a pick 6. Heh, guess that new gameplan didn’t work so hot either?

the xfl is a lot of fun to watch but its hard to tell who are the stars with such a thin sample set
i saw teh guardians play the week before last and they seemed to be an ok team
but who knows, maybe the competition just sucked?
this looks like its going to be a great off season to be looking for a new qb
there are several hot free agents and a bunch of new guys in the draft so it looks like a buyers market
now there are rumors about detroit not being happy with stafford
they have a high pick and could pick up one of the blue chip rookies, or they could trade down and still get their guy depending on who they want and what kind of deals are out there
/the #3 spot would just about guarantee you the guys you want as long as its not burrows
plus now the rumors are that j.burrows might not want to play in cinci so we could have another eli manning thing in the works
...
who knows how this is all going to shake out but it is fun to guess at how this offseason will play out
im not really that big on rivers
his best years are definitely behind him and i dont see him being in the same class as brady or brees (an ex-charger)
hope you are having a great week brother and the weekend is just over the horizon
