the bolts are not as bad as their record would have you believe
its just too many distractions
hopefully the chargers will be able to clear some things up wiht teh vote but i doubt the convadium bill passes
i guess we will see if spanos is happy in paradise and works with san diego, or decides to make his move to la to live as krunks live in lover (at least until he sells the team)
unfortunately, the afc west is producing some of the best football in the league right now
it would not supprise me to see two of the four teams in the playoffs
It would not surprise me to see 3 AFC West teams in playoffs
And your right...chargers are a few gnat farts from being 6-3...and I say that remembering full well the attitude that bolt fans had for raider fans last year when we said we were a few gnat farts away from being 10-6 on the season!
Best case scenario for the stadium solution: chargers go to L.A. and raiders come here...the Murph is the nicest stadium they have seen...as is...let mark sink a couple hundred mil of his and the NFL's money into it...and chargers will carry on being the least important franchise in Cali...(3 teams or 4)...((sorry poprocks...not tryna be a dick))
Well, voters in San Diego voted against an increase in hotel taxes to fund a new stadium for the Bolts, so they'll likely be moving to LA in, what, the next year or two?
LA isn't that far from San Diego, so Chargers fans can still see their team. Just a longer drive for them...
Off topic, Cali voters approved recreational cannabis, and Trump is our new President. I for one welcome our new overlord and master, if only to avoid his wrath. He's president, the Cubs won the world series; I fully expect the Browns to win the Superbowl in a year or two...
no worries subrob, you are just telling it like it is
you are right bababooey, but it might as well be a million miles away
after all the years of love and support for the team, san diego has finally said enough
we got burned on the last stadium deal and wont be fooled again
plus the way spanos has talked about the city fpor the past couple years just shows what kind of person he really is
if spanos was more realistic he would be open to the current location in mission valley or willing to foot more of the bill downtown
its a give and take world if you want to get things done
he wants the city to basically give him everything he wants and then some
as much as i love football i did not vote yes
i see subrobs scenario playing out
chargers move to la(where they will have no fan support) and the raiders leaving oakland and coming to san diego unless they can pull a rabit out of the hat and get things done by the bay
the Q (subrobs tips his hand and shows he is truely old school southern cali by calling it the murph!) is one of the best locations in the county for a stadium and the nfl has said they want a team in san diego
as much as ive liked the chargers all these years once they leave san diego, im over it
Holy shit..I do that now and again...Qualcomm...
I thought I would be miserable as a soldering old man w gaps in memory!
But I kind of enjoy it..
As far as fans following teams...w the raiders...I'm okay w Oakland or LA or Dago...for a minute I wondered if I would follow them to Vegas...but quickly decided that location didn't matter as I fell for the raiders for reasons that had little to do w location... especially since I was Alaskan at the time...fuck the Seahawks...
HOWEVER
Adelson getting a piece of raiders...however small...might just be the end of me having a favorite football team..
no worries man, i grew up with the murph' and just see it as a tell of someone whos been around for awhile
i dont know about the raiders moving to nevada, brother
i mean i just dont see the nfl moving a team to vegas right now and think adelson is being played for a fool
as kooky as he looks davis is not going to give up a piece of his fathers legacy for soem fancy building in the desert
(dosent his mom own part of the team too?)
plus, there is no way you are going to get league approval for something so shady
I hope they do man
It's a family owned business
Started by a man who broke down barriers in the NFL that really mattered...and he did it without any support from any football people outside the raiders org...
I believe mark qualifies for a grandfather rule that states he can sell up to 59% of the raiders and maintain full organizational control...that could be a sticking point for that scumbag adelson...I dunno
As far as I'm concerned...selling to adelson damages the legacy of equality that should forever be a hallmark of the organization..the lack of equality that exists in the NFL was never part of Al's m.o.
The Padres' ballpark, Petco Park, approved in 1998 and completed in 2004, was supposed to be financed by hotel taxes and new sales and property taxes from new developments (condos, malls, etc) around the ballpark. The new developments didn't happen, and now the city is on the hook for millions in municipal bond payments that aren't covered by the increase in hotel taxes brought in by the Padres. More money going to pay off these bonds means less money for city services like schools, roads, police and fire, etc.
So you can see why the new Chargers stadium deal was not going to get approved by city voters, who were just burned by the Padres deal.
I didnt know that Adelson wanted (eventual) ownership of the raiders to help finance a stadium in vegas. I can see that being a non starter for mark davis, no matter how much he would like to move to Sin City.
Was there ever much equality among NFL owners, or pro sports teams owners in general? You have some teams owned by families whose main asset is the team itself (Mark Davis, the Buss family with the Lakers, maybe York with the Niners) and other teams owned by billionaires who made their money in other industries (Paul Allen of microsoft, owns the Hawks and trailblazers, kroenke who married into walmart $ and owns the Rams, Nuggets and Avalanche). But by and large theyre all super rich folks; not sure how much they have in common with the working class fan, otherwise they wouldnt be pressing for more public $ to fund stadiums whose profits mostly go into their pockets.
Al Davis was a rebel in that he was willing to fight (sue) the league to get what he wanted, but that might make him more like Trump than your average fan. He was generous with his players, sure, but i think most fans would have preferred he sign his football labor to more sensible contracts so he'd have better depth on the team than so much of the cap dedicated to a few stars.
Browns are now 0-10 after losing to the ravens thursday night. Is 0-16 in play for them? When they were bought by that truck stop guy in 2012, you would think they'd be somewhat better 4 years later. I guess that 5 year plan is now a 10 year plan...
Hawks at Patriots Sunday night is the only matchup between teams with winning records this weekend; lot of .500 teams and teams slightly under .500 so far this year. Is that why ratings are down? Fewer really good teams this year?
I'm in a pool at work and I thought by this point in the season it would be much clearer about what these teams really are. Yet again this week I look at the matchups and many of these games are coin tosses. You can't really tell if teams have improved, figured things out, do the last couple of games give you a clue as to how they will perform now etc. etc.
As far as the TV ratings go it's very easy to see why they are down and it's down to one word, commercials. People are now used to watching commercial free programming on cable, online, Netflix, Hulu etc. When you get used to commercial free tv, watching commercial programming is practically unbearable. There are so many commercials during a football game that it kills the flow, tension and drama. When you add to that the fact that there are way too many teams, which waters down the talent, then you have a long drawn out game with no real flow and only between 22 to 25 minutes of real action in a 3 hour program of mediocre play.
To sum up, it's boring! With LOTS of beers I can get through a game watching my team play but if I try to watch a second game I can maybe get through one quarter before I just can't take it anymore and move on to something else. The problem the NFL has is that they no longer produce a good product. Plain and simple.
I hear you about the commercials, Evergreen. It's frustrating to see 3-4 mins of commercials, then a kickoff (10 secs of game action), then another 2-3 mins of commercials (mostly truck and boner pill ads)
Unless it's the superbowl, where the commercials are brand new and more entertaining, no one wants to sit through that many ads.
NFL Redzone channel I hear might be another reason ratings are down: no one can really watch all of the games at once, but the red zone lets you watch all of the scoring in every game. Much more exciting than seeing a bunch of 3 and outs or penalties...
The 'Boys had an impressive come from behind win at Heinz field against the Steelers and now sit atop the league at 8-1 after the Hawks beat the Pats last night. Ezekiel might win the MVP, let alone Off Rookie of the Year.
Bears got worked by the Bucs yesterday. Cutler reverted back to his TO prone ways; thought maybe the bears were on the upswing after beating the vikings last game, but seeing as how the vikes have lost 4 straight after starting 5-0, beating minnesota doesnt mean much.
Bears have 2 wins, tied with the Jags, and behind the niners at 1 win and everyone is behind the browns at 0-10 (2017 nfl draft rankings). Nows the time the bottom 10 teams start thinking about who their team should draft in april...
Kaepernick is performing a bit better than last year but isnt the star people thought he might be again under chip kelly. One area the niners have regressed this year is defense, theyre giving up an extra 7 pts per game this year than last (31 vs 24 ppg). So the 49ers have some rebuilding to do through the draft and free agency; i think kelly will stick around, he said he doesnt want to go back to college (oregon could use him back, theyve really fallen off a cliff this year) but the yorks gave him a 4 yr contract, doubt theyll want to fire him after one year and be on the hook paying him and tomsula for the next few years...
Damn, the Pats need to get their shit together with the blooper reel we saw last night. We can't play like that against the Cowboys in the super bowl...fuck! It's usually 2 or 3, then your out of homefield
