It's a male, time to trim him up and let him veg a while so I can keep him to father a future generation. The male he replaces has been used to pollinate all the lower popcorn buds and some in the middle too, I got a little carried away.
I reckon 6 months to know the answer MGJ, stick around mate.
Lol Pack, yeah just need to find some starlets for him to, er, "act" with.
Paper towel time again.
Don't worry mate, Hades/Pluto is bannished from my underworld kingdom, so you're safe from any serpants or dogs in that seat,
Although try to make off with any of my ladies, and I may invite him back .
Ah yeah, I hadn't thought about it really. Lucifer is merely the evolution of the mythology that followed the reign of pluto over some part of greece. What a legacy. Hades just being the name adopted by the story tellers when telling the tales, which was the practice back then. Not to be confused with Hades, the viking heaven. I suppose he was the reason that heaven is supposed to up and hell down. As he is genuinely supposed to have lived in underground caves. Which is how he got the status as ruler of the underworld.
[Edit], hmm, now thinking, val hallah was the viking heaven, I'm much better at ancient greece that anywhere else, I'm confused now, not sure where hades was worshiped as desirable, butg somewhere, i cant be arsed looking it ip, just making an adjustment here. [end edit]
Aaaaanyway, Here's a pic of smokey girl pre-pollination, taken on the same day as the last pic in natural light. Unfortunately, the tri bruised nuts male that I wanted to keep for future breeding projects is dead. He grew rather big in reveg, so I cut him back a whole load, and found that someone had whitewashed his stem. I'm assuming that this is mildew. He lived in a wardrobe in low lighting and less airflow. I guess this contributed. I put him under the 400w hps, and he just whithered away within a couple of hours. Its a real pitty as I loved that plant. Luckily I did breed with him but really wanted to do some backcrosses with the offspring and some other crosses. He is lost forever now. I'm really pissed of about it. But worse, I'm worried for the safety of my tri bruisedberry male that now lives in his old house. So I'm lsting it, and doubled the light in there, i also repotted it so it has lots of root space. This leaves me the tri top for later and all the side branches have been topped if that makes sense. The doors will be left open to help increase the air flow, but he cant have a separate fan all of his own coz that's just being overly protective. I'll post a pic at some point.
Smokey girl (I'll update soon):
Nice looking fat bush..that Smokey Girl..I'm knocking up my gals tonight..see if I can do it this time without contaminating the whole grow..
If you get a chance..post about her from time to time..so I can timeline a bit..
No worries mate, I just looked back, (as I use the thread as a memory tool), it was 27/5 that I did the first set of pollinating, and managed to finally stop myself on the 4/6. So that's a weeks worth of difference on some of the seeds. The earliest pollination can be seen clearly, as there are little seed pods forming in those calyxs ( i cant spell half the propper terms), and the latest pollinated areas have the whithered hairs that should happen within about 48 hours so you can see where has been hit. I'd raise the light to a silly level so that you can turn the fan off without burning the tops as you dont want to spread that active pollen everywhere. The best tip I can give is not to pollinate the tops but the lowest popcorn buds, as loose pollen will float around, but hopefully not fly against gravity to well. I'll start to post regular pics of the important bits of the plant as it develops and wider shots for general interest. She really is a monster, so much so that I'm thinking of taking a clone, a little late I know, but I think it may be better than trying to reveg her later. She is the daughter of my beloved lost tri after all.
Well I did it..don't know if pollen was viable..the collected stuff..compacted..like a paste..I did get some more off the plant..but I let it die..so what was left was on leaves and stems..the flowers aren't giving anymore..
If it doesn't happen..no big deal..but I hope it does...I bagged the plant except the branches I did..misted them with water when I was done..then pulled the bag..4 lower branches is what I hit..hope water is OK..
I didn't know what might be viable so by the time I was done those hairs were like a well used dust mop..hit a Cindy W too..just for fun..
Fans are all off and the room doesn't need any fan to stay cool..this room is always cool..I placed the plants with the branches away from the other plants..
last time I tapped pollen onto a cotton swab with the cotton pulled off..then just tapped the swab over one flower and the deathstar cloud hit half of two plants..so I know it doesn't take much..
Thanks for the help..
Yeah my only girl so she had to be grown like that. I could do with repotting her, but she'll have to make do as thats the biggest tub I have. She must have 35 litres of compost in there and she wants more, greedy girl. I'll get some pics up later today to show a pollinated bud and non pollinated.
35 ltr?! The biggest I have is 11 They don't do the square pots any bigger
I wish I could grow outdoors. The Skunk#1 would do sooooo well in the right conditions. She's branching all over the place! Will do well anyway, just has so much more potential
Yeah I'd love to do an outdoor grow, or even a greenhouse grow, maybe the laws will change one day. The reason you cant find any bigger pots is that you are looking at plant pots. Go to an argos type of store and get some storage boxes, they make great tubs. Although you can get away with less compost if using nutes, but since I dont, I need to give em a bit extra.
Here are the pics.
not very good as the hps is on so click only if really interested.
First the whole plant
Then a non pollinated branch
Now a couple of pollinated ones, 1 week between pollination on them, first first.
That's what I finished the BubbleDust in 9 gal(35L) pots..I only used 7gal(27L) worth..
was thinking a bed grow in a koi pond kit..outdoor hydro in that koi pond..
Sorry off topic, but I was looking at some koi ponds..the liner looks great for indoor bed making..they got it on rolls at the nursury..
trash cans come in nice sizes too if you wanna really overgrow..
9gal; 35L pots
lol MGJ, I'm saying nothing, Alex may call in lol.
Nothings off topic in this thread Pac, feel free to change the direction any time mate.
If you look at any of my previous grows, you'll normally see 2 plants in each of the tubs that size, but since i only have one girl, she gets it all to herself. I'd also normally have 2 tubs in the grow chamber, 4 plants flowering. So normally I'd only top a couple of times, this is the grow type that I love to do though. Single plant maximisation projects are my favourite. The tub is 41cmx30cmx filled to 20cm deep.
I like the wider rather than deeper pots/tubs as it lets the plant branch nicely. For single colas, I would think that deeper pots are good, (and looking at that BD Pac, I reckon thats right) but when doing the multi tops, wider and shallower seems to get nice results for me. Given that the sides are opaque, I can see that roots hit the sides before the bottom of the tub, and thats from the top to the bottom so the roots really do just go straight out at 90 degree angles to the stem, and keep going till they hit a barrier, then take a turn down. This girl is taking up all of the available space I have on her own, althought the future isnt looking great. Last year I had a bad problem with spider mites. They really hit me hard all the way into winter. It seems that they hibernate and wake up when the sun comes out. Coz they have moved back in. I havent seen any webs yet, but saw the tell tale speckling on a couple of the leaves. Those leaves have been removed, and the remaining leaves sprayed with whiskey and water. I'm worried mainly because I dont want my last remaining tri father to get taken. They now have a fan on them to further annoy the now pissed spider mites. I'm not happy, but we'll see how it goes.
I reckon a garden pond type of tub, filled with compost to form a growdoc style of bed, would allow the roots to stretch much further overlapping each other, so great if topping but I cant really see an advantage if doing single cola grows. Although I know GD swears by that type of grow and I've never tried it. Just seems easier to empty manageable tubs rather than a fish pond full of earth.
