Here's something else I'd like it if other people could confirm...
My rosin has a lot of fireworks when I light a little piece on fire. Lmao I know it's not solvent! The material the kief came off of has been sitting in a room at 30% RH for like 6 months now and the kief was in there for about a week after it was harvested and before I started using it so I doubt it's moisture either.
I also discussed this with furywall11 last night and after I told him how terpy the rosin is, he suggested it could be the terps! He talked about limonene and how it looks when you squeeze an orange peel next to a flame. This made sense to me.
Was hoping you guys would try it and see. Just take a little ball on the end of a knife or something and light it on fire, literally, apply the flame until the rosin itself starts burning like a candle and let me know if you got fireworks too, plz.

but it will be strain dependant. not all strains will have enough of whatever is so reactive like that that they will do the same thing.
True, but terps are terps, different amount of the 20 or so different ones will be present and varying levels and concentrations.
Idk, I just feel like I still am going to have to get some analytical done to show 0ppm residual solvent just to show idiots who don't know or won't believe me. Although the product is unlike any bho I've ever seen or made. It's a really weird soft shattery thing.

What about when you dab it, any sizzle or crackles..
Here is what I notice
Same strain....same batch of sift....pressed in two batches 24 hours apart.
First batch was less heat, with one quick but really heavy press, yielded light extract of pull and snap consistancy even when cold...that really tickled my nose but crackled on my Nail.. But yield was down by 1/3.
Next day I do another batch, with more heat and more pressing time and a darker Rosin was produced but no crackle at all. This time it is like glass when it cools, no nose tickle and the flavor is not the same.....all I taste is the florally kushy lavender vs fruity grapes with just a slight lavender back end.

Just curious, even when your stuff is soft yet shattery, does it stick to your fingers....?
Normally with bho when I produce a soft pull and snap type of extract it still is sticky..if I handle it with my fingers....
Yet this pull and snap doesn't stick....too much natural oils?
I will say I don't like using 50u steel mesh.....too much contaminants.

with pressing flower sometimes you will notice an almost watery like consistency that is near impossible to collect, even in a freezer.
Seems to be a steam distillation of terps separating from the oil.

I've never done a real nail dab, ever. I never believed in it lol! I have a Nero technologies vape pen but clearly that won't tell us about sizzle. I took the max fans out of the glass shop for the greenhouse. When I get some free time I need to upgrade and re install the shop ventilation and make myself a little beaker bong dab set up! I really like the high from the wax I've made and the rosin! I can't smoke flowers anymore, it's too edgy and physical, the rosin and wax are way more cerebral and up lifting.
I made my gf hit the rosin in the vape pen. At first she's like "oh that tastes nice" then she blew it out and said "oh there it is" not in a good way lol! She said it didn't tickle her nose, it burnt her nose! Lmfao yes! Terps!
Crackle on a nail seems to me like moisture. My rosin isn't shooting fireworks until it actually catches fire itself.
what temps are you talking about with your presses? Kief or flowers?
No its straight glass after it sits out for an hour or two. Prolly cause it's cool long and the mono terps on the surface oxidize and go away. The stuff I made last night officially has no more potent smell. It does start to get sticky after being in the fingers for about 10 seconds. But it's manageable, not a big deal.
It's not really pull and snap. It goes from shatter to straight tree sap quickly in the fingers but as I said is only mildly sticky and comes off the fingers with a little tug leaving behind no product on the skin.
I just don't have enough experience, or any for that matter, dabbing and playing with shatter.
I havent checked in here for a while. Ive been pressing IWE and getting 66% yield. I see 30% being good, so i must be doing something right. I cut up the mesh from a 25u bubblebag that i didnt need anymore. Put 3 grams of bubble in it at a time, and secured the baggie with a stripped bread tie. Turn the flat iron on lowest setting, press 3 times for 5-7 seconds before collecting. I do this process up to 6 times with little to no degredation to the rosin. The first press always yields low, but the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are usually where the yield is. I press the empty screen at the end as well. Hope this helps someone.

i must be the only one who cant work their t shirt press. The results are highly inconsistent and not up to par with the quality and yield i can press with the hair press. Maybe someday we can get it to work, but it sure seems it wont get enough pressure, yet others have the same press and apparently get good results.
How fast do your T-shirt presses come up to Temp from warm to the touch to your ideal pressing temp?
It's fast! A few minutes at most. However it takes forever to cool down so start your research at the lower temps and work your way up. It's digital controlled which my IR gun confirms the pid on the press is pretty accurate. Maybe a ten degree discrepency at because it over shoots the target temp but if you wait like ten minutes it's pretty damn accurate. You must also factor in the plate, which I have siting on top of the silicone pad. If you remove the pad you must replace it with a plate of equal thickness as the hinges are designed to close and press evenly at that height.

Bottle jacks won't work on their side, you have to use a porta power ram or similar, that will work on it's side.
