New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

not really Sam. Maybe there is a way with enough heat or something. I tried a few times and the resultant collection is very moist with water, and not much resin seems to collect at all really. You can get something, but not a lot. I haven't gotten results good enough to call it worth it, however the smell of a fresh panama red/red congo bud squished with heat smells so good! The best terpene experience i have had all year i think.

Well then I will do it with one hand for the smell and the other hand for the Rosin with dry sift....

Terps

Just pressed this on 160 for 20 seconds..much better product, it shatters when cool.

Rosin, Rosin, Rosin
Keep those Dabs a FLOWIN

SOOOO HIGH ! ! ! !

(To the theme of Rawhide)

Man have I ever been on a Rosin tear lately....

I did an experiment on the weekend where I tumbled/shaked a 1 oz of ww larf....
I then started pressing flowers....I gave up after a couple grams...not bad for gathering a dab or 2...

But
Why anyone would press flowers is beyond me....seems such a PITA to gather .1g when you can be gathering a 5-6 times that per press if not more just using a hair straightener....Now I suppose if you could do 7-10g at a time with a tshirt press, that would speed things up, but collection is still a pita.

One thing to note, I clean my silkscreens after each press, so I have a whole bunch of circles cut out when I'm using my flat iron....I still like the flat iron when working alone.

People are having the best results using freshly cut flowers if it's frozen before squished.

Just did a test on some og hybrid, not grown to its fullest but still nice. Fully dried and cured for about 2 months

Hair iron at 310. 2.7 grams broken into 5 equal .53 budlets, then balled up and squished once for approx 3-5 seconds. I'm pressing so hard the first time there is nothing from a second press.

2.7 grams of flower in, .4 grams of rosin out. Left over chips at 2.1, indicating about .2 moisture loss. Overall 15% return. Flavor is full and complex, big time head sweats, hardcore rosin naps.

As far as gathering it up is concerned, I have a few ideas for that too. Going to first try folding the parchments in half and freezing them over night and the just try to ruffle them to break off the rosin into a collection vessel, that's what I do to get the little tailings and edges of left behind bho.
You guys, really nice pics!!!!

No no sam just forgot the part where his rosin harvester has a flash drier

Terps

is it much better because its shatter?

As Sam said before if a sample is soft and has lots of terpenes, thats preferable to removing them to get a questionably "better" product.

It's better for me because the taste is slightly more pronounced and stays on the pallet longer, its also smoother than the amber hotter pressed rosin.

It still goes soft when handled its not quite glass shatter like the kief rosin was, i also got a better yield almost 18% this time.

Yeah I'm thinking at such a low temp, you can press, clean up you nug area or kief puck, and replace that with a similar sized piece of material, and press again. This would allow the product to overlap and you can get a nice build up before having to clean it off. Just a theory that I will test but that would boost productivity greatly!

I am curius about this, if the goal is to melt the resins off the buds, why chill them first, does it help preserve terps?

it seems like one would have to press longer and or at higher temps in oreder to get the heads to melt because of the lower starting temp of the resin heads...

Definition of THERMAL INERTIA
: the degree of slowness with which the temperature of a body approaches that of its surroundings and which is dependent upon its absorptivity, its specific heat, its thermal conductivity, its dimensions, and other factors

just something I thought of when watching people press fresh frozen buds, anyone have any ideas?

if it makes a better product I am down for it.... now all I need to do is figure out a way to speed up the flowering time of these NLD's so I can press some rosin from them :D

If it's not frozen, as kut pointed out, the consistency is extremely watery, requires ample drying time of the parchment paper, and produces very little return. Freezing the material does something to allow for less moisture leached out on the paper. Some are thawing the frozen material before squeezing. Others are taking it straight from the freezer. Both methods seem better than not freezing it at all. I've had good luck with half dry flowers that were never frozen. Lot's of steam, the rosin caked hard, but the flavor was amazingly strong and fresh tasting. I have not tried it with partially dried then frozen material. Like you said it seems counter intuitive.

I wonder what happened when I tried fresh frozen. All 5 buds I pressed exploded into nothingness. 320f in a shirt press.

I been playing around with pressing kief and flowers, i prefer flower rosin but kief produces a pure shatter product. i use a heat press set at 200c and press for 10 seconds on the hardest setting.

what kind of heat press are you using?

I still think you guys should have a steam press with some paper both sides and make a gully.

a 23 x 30 shirt press i bought from fleabay.

I was thinking of attaching the press to the wall so when i press gravity pulls the oil down and collects in the folded over part of the oil slick pad.

Or maybe using steam to melt the oil off the bud without even pressing...

yeah if the screens can handle heat maybe you could force steam through the bud through the screen somehow?

I am doing it with the hair iron vertical, leaving a gully for the rosin to run into.

So far i am doing a teaspoon which is 2.5 -3 grams getting about 30% return. This was some grape, it seems to be a little lighter color than the blue dream.. Both are great.
