New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

Pressed some well cured grape ape and got my most stable rosin yet. Stuff actually shatters. ~4s presses @ 310f. Was a real pain in the ass to collect- had to make a warming plate so the oil didn't just flake off the parchment.

When they get shattery like that I find if I collect the material quick it's easier. I go maybe 2 or 3 presses and then collect off the parchments. I had some completely clear crystalline shatter from an og that was pretty much impossible to collect once it cooled, just kept breaking smaller. I ended up folding up the parchments and giving them a second in the iron alone was the only thing that helped.

if it starts breaking up and flaking when i collect it i just put the pad on the top of the hot press for a few seconds to soften the rosin back up so it sticks to the skillet.

Nice grape ape rosin, I'm running grape ape also.

It has been my nicest rosin to date, pressed from sift.

Better yield from my ww but the rosin doesn't taste as nice.

My plan is to press large pieces of parchments with many samples on it. The shatter sounds great for what I planned on doing, I said this earlier too...freeze the parchment, fold it in half, tilt it down 45 degrees over another parchment and ruffle it really good. This is how I always got the thin edges of shatter of parchments when I was running a cls.

Don't most steam press spray or steam with pressure?

I'm not sure. I'm also just not too stoked to purposely inject moisture as if cls has tough us anything that will cause the product to want to butter up as opposed to being shatter. Not sure though.

Bastards didn't send my press out till monday, we're supposed to do it thursday! Oh well, a few more days!

Gave some rosin to my grandfather this morning and he was intrigued as hell. He liked it to say the least.

Yep my gramps was the same, he was pulling out all sorts of hash and bud that I didn't even know about. I told him next time I come over we'll rosin it up aha.

I've noticed a slightly vaporized taste from rosin, but i'm just starting to play around with the technique...I'm sure it's possible to extract the oils without the "vaporize" taste.

looks dank crop! & boulderado, is that sour dub I see??? bet that's pure bliss if it is!

The taste isn't as strong but there is still a lot of flavor going on. If I were to take a rip of 73u then take a rip of the rosin from the 25u, 45u, or 160u I can notice a slight difference in taste as it doesn't linger on the tongue compared to the 73u.

I guess rosin gives me a reason to start using the 25u bag again lol I never really figured it was worth the time/trouble for the low quality that's usually in the 25 but I suppose it's time to rethink that stance

So are most people pressing sift/hash type products or straight buds? I tried this out using plain buds, it produced a very nice end product...but it was not really something i would want to do often as it took quite a while to get a few good hits worth and was hard to collect the small droplets. I did have some luck making piles that were about the same size and then putting them in the same place on a piece of parchment, eventually it created easier to pick up oil blobs.

I've just been pressing straight nugs, no screen; .15-.5g a piece. For the smaller nugs (<.25g) I'll throw them in a kief press and make a puck. For larger ones I'll press them as tight as I can between two boards. 4s @ 310f has been getting ~10-15%+ back. Not sure about your dabbing preferences, but personally a .25g nug (top shelf quality) produces enough rosin for 1-2 solid dabs.

Collection is kind of pain- easiest way I've found is to pick the contaminants out and then scrape it up with a dulled razor, adding heat or cold when necessary. The rosin can usually be completely collected in 1 or 2 passes. If you have multiple runs of the same strain, you can keep all the rosin on the razor and gather it at the end.
