New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

I currently use a glass swizzle stick for collection and it works great for most strains. I use the "ball" end of the stick. Also, the ball is not perfect (hand made, I assume) and the little flat spot on one side really makes collection easier than the perfectly round surface. Something to consider next time you're making glass daubers.

You think the "funneling" idea sux also?

funneling might be awesome, but i wont agree on the flat spot on a roller tool. There are two styles of colllection tools, rollers and stamps. stamps are all flat, rollers should be all round for me.

I have not had much luck with rolling. Maybe it's the parchment I use (Reynolds) or maybe it's just the strains I press. But, I have to kind of, "scrape" across the rosin with the glass to get it off the parchment.

Here's a shot of my buddy who flies my dauber. :)

As you can see, the end is not round (no doubt, the result of poor craftsmanship. LOL) However, I found that the flat spot scrapes nicely along the parchment and collects the rosin well.

I guess there's many ways to skin a cat. And, we all have so many different variables, between press designs and different strains and different techniques and different conditions and and and...

I'm just one of those people who are never satisfied with the way things are. I am always post engineering stuff I buy at the store to make it bigger, better, deeper, stronger. LOL Kind of anal that way. LOL

I think the funneling/guiding idea has some merit. I'm going to try a few more experiments after I smoke up this batch.

I use reynolds too. I couldnt collect very good with my first tools, i had to make about 4 or 5 till i got a great design. the newest rolllers are very heavy and retain cold, so as long as its not miami they pick up well usually. i actually have to warm mine sometimes, and they could also be cooled if needed. a large diameter roller just totally kicks as on smaller ones.

i am pretty sure i said it dozens of pages ago i need to set you up with one. get at me if you want one!

I need one asap. I tried to have a local guy make me one and as soon as I set it on a table it broke in half. Local glass blowing place couldn't fix it, said it was so poorly made with gaps or something, the marble just fell off completely. Ugh :( Let me know what it'd take to get one from ya HMK!

For anyone that care, I have had a couple presses...seen a few more in person. But honestly, the easiest, most portable, and best results come from a quick clamp and a hair straightener. Not being rude, but my flower Squishes with my $12 hair straightener and clamp look as good, or better than anything I have personally seen/used in person. Not saying there are not better set ups. But my Remington hair straightener and clamp never disappoint me, it is functionally way easier, and takes up harldly any space. Some presses take up Anton of space, but have a tiny footprint to squish. Nothing impressive, besides then large amount of space it take up.

I will be honest, not all hair straighteners are the best quality, I had a number of Conair...one lasted one Squish! But the Remington that I got form Walmart lasted me a very longtime, it still works. But the other day I went into Ollies..a discount store. I found the same exact model for $12 bucks! If anyone has an Ollies, check for the Remington 2 inch hair straightener. It is $32 at wal mart. 12 bucks ins a great deal for a durable hair straightener. Only downfall is the lowered temp it records is 300f. I just shut it off after heating up for 10-15 sec. Around 200-220 with my laser thermometer if I am in the mood to check. But in my opinion, best $12 hair strsightener I know of.

This is my one year anniversary making rosin, the first pic is a 6 gram piece i ended up with from the first days of making rosin. It is still very good, i have kept in in the fridge but not frozen, it smells and tastes great even though it was pressed around 270* with the hair iron in the vice. I have come a long way from the hot hair iron presses to my waffle iron press that is working great. I have spoiled myself and a number of my friends who now only want to smoke/ vape rosin. I will put the year old piece away to see how it is next year....

what kind of pressure are you able to put on that waffle griddle? And do you keep track of the yield it produces? It seems like a lot of pressure would crack the waffle maker part

The jack is a 6 ton, the plate screwed to the waffle iron gets the brunt of the pressure, the only problem i have had is putting to much pressure you can make the mesh with the kief break open. The yield is around 30%...

So, I told you guys I was done fucking around lol. Well, maybe actually I'm just starting. Anyhow, I acquired one of these pneumatic presses, hooked it up to my tiny compressor, and it works great! It's only a 1 ton press, but man o man does it beat using an arbor press, hair straightener, etc. Just press a couple buttons and watch it do it's magic.

I had to do some light welding to make it work for the day, but I'm either going to drill out the MediSun plates to fit the round shaft, or most likely, get the new prototype done quickly and use it. Good things coming soon!

Do you only run kief with your press or have you tried flower with it? With that size of a surface area it seems like you could do between 1/2 and a whole ounce of flower if it was cold pressed into a puck first.

Sometimes when I press flower with this thing I notice the flower doesn't end up as a chip, it ends up almost a mush and doesn't peel off the paper easily. It makes the flower come off in pieces. Is this too much pressure, too much heat, too long, what?

I get that result as well with flower but it seems to be what's needed to get the most out of the puck. If you let it cool it comes off a little easier if its mostly intact, if particles are in rosin its easier to get that out warm. What's the most you can do without containment? 2 grams is pushing it for me with those plates. does 20-25% yield on most flowers at 190 degrees at full pressure with a 6 ton bottle jack

I get less than 10% (more like 5%) from pressing flowers. If you're getting 20 - 25% pressing flowers then I am doing something wrong.

Sometimes too moist of flower, too high heat, too much pressure will do this. If too moist...go light on the pressure. If you press too hard on moist material combined with high temps the puck almost explodes.

if its hard to collect.. just grab a huge flat tuperware.. and put your parchement in there allow them to dry for a few.. helps me with too moist stuff that's hard to collect.

try compressing your material more before putting it in the heated press.

the evenness and density of my pre-press prep makes a big diff in my efficiency i've noticed---evenly packed and tightly compressed material gives me the best yields per gram and the wafers come out nice and dry, not sticky at all.

i think oil gets trapped in the relatively large spaces between the material and does not have reason to keep on movin. then it just cooks there and makes the surrounding material a sticky mess. same thing happens if i wrap my filter material incorrectly, i end up with the sticky mess on the edges trapped in the excess material.
