New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

Anyone have any reviews or feedback on Soilgrown's Sasquash press? Air assisted hydraulics with 6"x 10" plates. Would be nice to have air power when doing lots of pressing.

Only the bottom plate is heated, it transfers the heat to the top plate when closed.

The Happy Buddha Press has only the bottom plate heated as well and has some amazing results. I imagine not heating the top plate also helps to minimize heat transfer to the hydraulic parts for a longer life span.

So I said fuck it, I'm going all in on this and I hired an electrical engineer and a mechanical engineer. Going to design our own plates, and if they go as well as I think, I'll offer them up here for members or something. I'll keep you guys updated, I'll prob need some additional testers after a few generations of the prototypes are made.

I cleaned up all that wiring and mounted all that neatly in a small rubbermaid tote.

I just got the drilled plates back yesterday. Everything works beautifully. My buddy came over today and we squished all day long.

Have you fired that sucker up yet? get some pics up! I have a shop press like that what else did you add to it?

You need pid controllers, heat cartridgesink, and thermocouple, can get the plates at a metal shop and they can drill the holes for you there if you don't have a drill press. 1/4 hole for thermocouple and the hole for my cartridges were 5/16, here's the guide I usedhttp://highsimple.com/diy-rosin-heat-press/step-4/

Been t-shirt pressing lately, it works well enough, going to try some bigger runs coming up... really interested in something auto-matic the worst part is holding the t-shirt press down.

Habor freight deal is legit.

Did you follow that HighSimple guide as well? Did you use the exact size plates they recommended? Trying to figure out what thickness to use.

Cost about 500 when said and done.

couldn't be happier.

Improved, smaller footprint so I can bring it to parties, the beach, the bathroom, to bed, you get the idea, love this fucking thing.

Can we see some results? I see you went with the 1 plate method, instead of bolting on an additional plate that mounts to the press. That's what I was going to do as well, just concerned about the pressure being even. Also, since you're doing a 20ton, you can do the 4.5x4.5, but on a 2 ton arbor press, I'm thinking about making a 4.5" x 2.5".

Well, now that I have made a number of presses and heated platens (any different number of ways) for under $100, now I need to work on the pressing and collection process. So far. all the ideas that I have tested were less than gratifying. However, today something panned out so I thought I would share it and perhaps we can build on it.

Just a note....I am pressing 1 gram to 3 gram pucks for personal use. The commercial people pressing larger quantities have an entirely different set of problems. So, this is working for 1 - 3 gram presses.

First, I tried this by folding and bending aluminum foil but I didn't get enough depth so I took a piece of 0.019" nominal (about 0.014" actual) aluminum coil stock and cut a rectangular piece about 4" wide by about 6" long. Within that rectangle, I cut out a triangle with the base slightly in from the far edge of the rectangle and the apex at the opposite edge, breaking the closer edge of the rectangle. Essentially, a triangle within the rectangle with the apex of the triangle breaking the edge of the rectangle.

Geesh.. who said a picture is worth a thousand words. LOL I'll post a pic later.

Anyway, I laid this metal template in between my plates while I was heating the plates. Then, I placed my puck in parchment in between my plates as usual, but now, on top of the thin aluminum template.

When I pressed the plates together, the template guided the rosin along the triangle and toward the apex. This put most of the rosin in a nice little puddle at the apex of the triangle.

I need to tweak this but I think this one is a winner. LOL

Here are some pics for the post above. I tried 2 different shapes. The triangle seemed to work better so far.

I still have a couple leaks and it's not a great guide, but I think it might have merit.

Anything to make the collection process a little easier. I really need a way to eliminate the parchment, altogether.

why though? its really easy to get off parchment with the right tool. I can collect like a gram in less than a minute for sure.

That's very true. I have been so focused on removing parchment from the loop, that, in the meantime, I got pretty good at collecting it. LOL

Although, I do like the way the triangle funnels the rosin into a smaller collection area. I am hoping that bigger presses will result in an actually "drip-off" effect.

I currently use a glass swizzle stick for collection and it works great for most strains. I use the "ball" end of the stick. Also, the ball is not perfect (hand made, I assume) and the little flat spot on one side really makes collection easier than the perfectly round surface. Something to consider next time you're making glass daubers.

You think the "funneling" idea sux also?
