I wish I could give you negative reputation. I don't often say something like that. Read the last 10 pages at least, what you ask is covered. I know it's a big thread, but do SOME work man.

this is why some of these forums are a joke honestly.. because you think anyone wants to sift through 1000 pages of gg4 shit to find info? same with these threads.. lol.. should each thread be turned into a book of info.. it would be worth reading. but when 90% of posts are garbage. its not worth it..

just go with a D-Nail Press.. if u want cheap. 400$ after shipping..

I feel the same way.

If you read through a thread like this you will often encounter a user claiming X method is the best. Then ten pages later, Y method is the best. Then another 10 pages and now X is better again.

So I have extra money, and don't mind paying extra for a quality, well thought out machine. Is the D-nail press just that? What is your exprience with the D-nail personally? Thanks brother, :tiphat:.

These forums are no joke, and they are no book. It helps our collective minds to think out loud and work through problems and find new solutions.
This is why it's best to keep up to date on these new developments.

Some of these forums are a joke honestly...
A blonde calls up an airline and asks, "How long are your flights from America to England?"

The woman on the other end of the phone says, "Just a minute."

The blonde says, "Thanks!" and hangs up the phone.

Bada bing bada boom.

The D-nail press is a POS. Don't waste your money, go get a hair straightener and clamp and save yourself $300. Anyone who has tried it or bought it should tell you the same, by far the worst purchase ever. 3+ month wait for a piece of junk, I got a refund

can the hair straightener heating elements withstand the pressure from a 1/2 to 1 ton arbor press?

The answer is "kind of" or "depends". Every model is different. I did this to mine, attaching them to a steel plate and then having the pressure be on the plate instead of right on the aluminum which is way weaker. It holds up just fine, but I never used an extension bar nor did I bolt it down like I do now with my MediSun dies. Reason being, those hair straightener plates don't go below 300 so I didn't have to apply much pressure to get a result. Full pressure at that high of a heat = bad results, oil sprays, etc. Now that I use MediSun, I run them way lower, around 180F and apply as much pressure as I possibly can for around 10-15 seconds depending how it is flowing. I need to build a table to mount it to, as I have it mounted to my granite countertops and that worries me a little bit. The result of the lower temp = more terps = more flavor = better oil. It's worth it, trust me. I was pressing at 300 thinking it was fine, and it was, but man was I leaving behind a LOT of flavor and I was burning up some of my yield.

Regarding the thread being "too big" and having I guess too much info? You're just lazy in my opinion. I started paying attention to this thread when it was at 80 pages and before posting went back and read every single post of every page previously as to not stick my foot in my mouth or be lazy and ask others to post cliff notes for me. I asked a basic question in here and was told to watch youtube and got the hint.

information is knowledge . If you read the thread at least you will know if what you think is a brilliant idea has been tried or not. Saving money makes sense to me whether you got it or not.

these attitudes suck IMVHO.

long threads are full of gold if you're motivated and literate.

free knowledge there for the taking! imagine!

someone says one thing then ten pages later says another because they've grown several crops or squished 3 pounds or fucked up 8 times and created something incredible on the 9th.

bitching about it not being *even easier* than reading a book sounds like complaining you're hungry at a free all you can eat buffet, sitting there making a pouty face cause no one will make your sandwich for you, with the crusts cut off, with a ketchup smiley face on the potato chips.

boo hoo. if you'd rather complain and not read and you buy something shitty, don't be surprised when you come here and we all say "yeah we know we've been talking about it for months."

if you do the research you'll be rewarded. you'll save time and money and material and end up with a better product sooner with less waste and error. seems worth it to me.

^ real talk. I know the feeling of not wanting to read through an entire thread (its called being lazy) but you gotta remember that this is a free forum of people continuously learning and growing. You need to learn to read between the lines.

Anyway I got one of the flat irons and pressed some gg4 rosin from some two year old keef and that shit was some FIRE. I'm still trying to decide if i want to get something bigger for larger scale rosin, but if i do i will be sure to read this whole thread.

One thing i noticed is that it was pretty sticky at first but i left it on some parchment paper on my dvr for a few days until it got to the point where i could touch it without it being sticky, now its about the same consistency as some good shatter. One thing I noticed tho is that its a lot darker than shatter, but I think that might be from the age of the keef i pressed, since ive seen some pretty light rosin in this thread.

Alright so I broke my dewalt/conair HMK style press. The plates eventually melted through the soft rubber grips and damaged the wires on top of the heating elements and it just basically all fused together and stopped working. So anyone looking to make a HMK quick grip press try and avoid the dewalt brand if you can.

I decided to build a vice style press to replace it. Its definitely not the most efficient press out there but it was cheap, works just as well as a quick grip and is way easier to use. No squeezing the shit out of it with your hand. I got everything at home depot and k-mart for probably around 60 bucks.
Also, avoid the cheap 4 inch bench vice from home depot if you want to build one of these. The whole top broke off the swivel base piece on the the first real squeeze.

I know it will eventually break too though, and when the time comes I will probably upgrade to a milling vice with Joel W. plates. Anyone who hasn't seen his stuff check out the rosin thread on fuck combustion. Definitely the most legit plates out there for your money right now. I need to just give in and buy them.

Anyways here's some pics of the press. Its attached to an old guitar amp and has a leverage bar with it that's crucial for easy squeezing. I'll throw in some action shots too lol.

I got my screen, and am pressing at 200-220* with my press and it is working great, the hair iron is a little to hot. The color and flavor is much better, the kief i am using is fresher than last time but i am not sure that makes a big difference...

All I said is people contradict themselves. You know what I hate, and think "sucks"? Is when people make a huge long winded post about nothing because they feel like they should be the on on top of the soap box. I never bitched once, why the hell are you attacking me? Why everyday on this sight is somebody having a pissing fit? I have contributed to this thread many times, and make one observation about people contradicting themselves then I have to come on and read your post????? WTF???? Don't know what I ever did to you? I mean, you even went into how I expect somebody else to make my sandwich for me, and cut my crust off. If you ever said that to my face, or knew what I do on a daily basis, you would think twice. Because I said some people contradict them selves on the internet (which is one of the most true statements ever told) you attack me personally? Really low bro. Shows what class you have, didn't your mother teach you better?

Another day another squish, got the new rosin bags today 25u.....worked pretty nice

View Image

i didnt really like the 25 bags, took longer for the oil to get out thus darkening it.

90 for flowers, unless the buds have 50%+ rh then i go 73 for fresh off the branch use the 25, the increased time for oil to escape will also evap most of the water out of the buds.

45-73 has been great for the headies.

pressing with parchment will ALWAYS result in a sappier and harder to collect consistency. seems the parchment absorbs and holds the moisture instead of forcing a separation. you notice this in the wrinkling or the parchment from the moisture.

for collecting these presses on parchment most of you have adopted collecting on something cold, again adding moisture to the oil. i have found that just leaving the collection parchment in the freezer for a few weeks will sublimate most, but collecting and then defrosting adds it back through condensation. so next time i will put the collection parchment into some container to avoid the condensate issue.

Looking for some advice / knowledge.

Just finished up some Goblin Queen and it dried on the branch for a week, and has now cured for around 5 days in jars and is sitting pretty at 62-65% RH. When pressed, it comes out unlike anything else I've pressed. Instead of being kind of a shatter consistency, it's very liquidy and impossible to collect with a metal tool unless you let it sit out overnight. I assume that means there's still too much moisture?

What would you guys suggest? A few ideas I had were to let the bud dry out more first, like let it sit out in a room for a couple hours before pressing, or perhaps to change the temperature of the press? I tried pressing for a longer time, but that didn't seem to change anything. I'm pressing using MediSun plates, a 1 ton arbor press, and at around 180F.

Also, anyone know a good way to get a read of the surface temp of the dies? A laser gun won't read the shiny surface, and using parchment is never that accurate since it sits up off the surface. My temp figure is based on what MediSun himself told me based on the settings I'm using, but I'd like to be able to dial it in myself.

Thanks in advance.

Try putting your parchment against something cold then using your tool to collect. I use a smooth glass bottle from either the fridge or freezer depending on how runny your rosin is. If its too cold it will just flake off and fly everywhere. You have to find the right temperature to get it to stick to your tool but not the parchment. Good job on getting runny rosin that means you got lots of delicious terps. Good luck!
