Can you go into any more detail about the garlic spray? Where did you find out about making it? Can you make a bunch of the solution and store it for a week or two at a time so you don't have to make it fresh each time? I'm wondering if this will be effective just with the garlic too instead of adding neem/azamax. I applied a bunch of predator mites and don't want to kill them off with neem or essential oils. Is there any risk of burning your plants with this spray? What are different application ratios?
I've had some limited success with making grasshopper traps using apple cider vinegar and canola oil in gallon ziploc bags. I pinned them around my plants to the support cage or set them on the ground. The best trap I noticed is sitting in a slight hole on the backside of a cage where the grasshoppers can simply walk in and fall into it instead of having to climb up to it to fall in. I think they are attracted to the cider smell and then they fall in and drown. Somebody on IG recommended this to me and said that that is what their grandfather back in Kentucky did for his cabbage patch. You can also use tupperware containers or something like that.
This is exactly what i was told on another site started by Pueblo Organic Growers;
I don't have a Gallon pan and it is summer so i boiled it hard in 2 quarts strained and added cold water...you will actually see an oil that develops on the surface so i added a drop of soap to emulsify. I guess it would last in the fridge??? What it does to mites??? My ladybugs don't seem too effected by it but don't seem happy either. All my spiders moved off the plants onto the cages, so i guess they hate it too.Take like a gallon of water and heat it to a boil. Puree your garlic, pour the hot water over it and let it steep over night, strain and load into a spray bottle. You can also add like a tablespoon of hot pepper or hot pepper sauce while its steeping. Six cloves to a gallon would be rather weak. Not sure of your exact needs so start there and add more if you want it stronger
I don't know anything else about this. I am just experimenting with it. I was due for another Azamax spray so i just combined them on my own. Adding Chili Powder to the mix makes it even better, but that will start killing a few of your mites...not all but a definite hit in numbers.
I will look at making traps...this year is unreal on how bad it is getting...i hope it doesn't get any worse.I am thinking of cutting the tops of of 2 litter bottles and bury them to almost flush with soil to catch other things also...If i could just remember what we use to put in those??? I saw orchards do this with 5 gallon buckets when i was a kid...It has just been soooo lllooonnngg and i can't remember the right mix. I do remember that they used hydraulic oil...i will have to find a different oil.
