Love the mushroom shot pipeline, just thourt id drop a fungi pic of my own from this morning.

I know it's artificial nature, but hey I love being able to create my own little biotope. This way it's also easyer to study and see whats going on under the ground, where the mushroom really is growing. The fruist we see over the ground is only about 10-12% of the mushroom, the rest is below the surface of the soil or whate ever it's growing on.

I finally managed to get closer to this crusader spider in my backyard. Look at the cross on it's back - it was named after it.

Great pics everyone!

Hey Bongosaurus, in your pic it's not a mushroom but a colony of larvae, IT'd be cool to see what's hatching out of these eggs.

Here are a couple of shots from my recent hiking trip to the Sky lakes wilderness in the Cascade mountains in Southern Oregon. This is a roadless primitive area, sitting around 6000'.

just read an interesting story on ladybugs in the newspape the other day. apparently they all group up just before the cold comes and the form a big ball of themselves. once the ones in the middle of the ball get warm, they make their way to the outside and let others have their turn. imagince finding a ball of thousands of lady bugs. how fucked would that be. anybody know if there anyway to keep em trhough the winter. i hear their great aphid killers?
Keep them in a mesh bag...cheese-cloth or nylons work well. Put some straw in there for them to hang out on. Add a couple shots of water via spraybottle to them every month or so. The bottom drawer of the fridge is ideal.

Hope this helps,
Seed

PS- Ive done this many times..the best I can do is about 50% mortality. Better than nuttin'.

Mushrooms/Toadstools

Mushrooms/Toadstools

yo folks

Shaggy Caps (Corprinus comatus) or Ink Cap (Coprinus altramentarius)

note: it is often very difficult to pin-point exact species in fungi, the term 'comatus' says it all,,, both inedible species!!!

toadstools (unknown)

nature in bloom... this species obviously thrives alongside old firesites,,, on the very edge of slash n burn land high in potash

more and more great pic nature lovers :) i realy like peaceofmyhearts flower out of the rocks up there-

i have a fasination with the colored sky and the way the light shines thru the coulds- i grew up in a nice rural area with a lot of farms, it was always my favorite to go out into the fields and gaze at the hills and sky- i could look as far as the eye could see- sometimes i would lay on my back at the top of a hill and look strait up so that all i could see is the blue sky -

Great shots! Interesting ball of leaves on the branch. I wonder what caused the change in hormone balance? May be a different type of gall.

Couple shots from my reef and a few udders.
