DAY 30 - 12/12

It's almost October, but the heat has still been going strong in the area where I live. It's first today that the temps have been more reasonable, and I'm counting on the temps to keep getting cooler in the final 4-5 weeks of flowering the plants. I probably won't start another grow in the middle of the summer again, unless I have some way of cooling the room and grow cabinet. I've been looking into making some simple kind of cooling system for the grow cabinet, utilizing fans and copper tubing with flowing ice water, but that won't be needed until next summer, so there's no rush with that yet.

I gave the plants a good flush 4 days ago, and they're both still looking healthy so far. I've trimmed some tiny popcorn buds from the very bottom and I also removed a few tiny branches and leaves from the bottom of the plants. There's a lot of smaller bud sites, but none that are huge yet. Compared to my first grow, the buds are defintely smaller on this second grow at the same stage of flowering. I didn't have the heat issue to deal with on the first grow, so perhaps that played a factor. I still have hope that the buds will begin to get significantly larger and really begin to bulk up soon, especially now since the temps seem to be more reasonable than they have been for almost the entire grow since it began.

Tommorow I'll be heading out to a hydro store to purchase some PH up solution, because tommorow the plants will be fed with a decent dosage of nutes, and I'm also going to throw in a tad of molasses for the first time when feeding tommorow.

Here's just one overall picture from today of the cabinet and the two plants.
There's no bud shots worth taking yet, because I'm not into midget bud porn.

DAY 33 - 12/12

I'm still lagging behind my first grow, as far as the bud size goes, but I'm doing my best to catch up. I'm glad that the temperature has finally gotten a little cooler in the area where I live, so I'm still holding out hope for a decent harvest from the two plants. Here's just a couple of bud shots that I took tonight.

Greenhead I am having the same slow buds. Also this strain is bushy. The bottom recently has pushed the stems so the buds are up high now. I am not training it, the plant seems to know to push the lower stems. This strain is really a sea of green.

5 of them have really stretched the top up and is filling in slowly with buds. But the clone NL I got from the dispensary a while ago stretched big time and filled in with plenty of flower leaving a good size Kola. Guess that is the difference between a clone and a seed grow. Plenty of bud sites though, I am pleased with that.

I am a ways behind you still and I apprecitate your grow log. Looks like you have a couple of weeks more "by the book". Have you been able to look at the trics or glands under a micro?? Your photos look great. Also my NL are not extremely aromatic (which is good) at this point. How do yours smell??

Good luck with all. Can't wait till we can have our Northern Lights Cybersmoke. T5

It sounds like your grow is coming along pretty good. I read that you had switched to a powerful HPS light instead of the T5's, so you should be getting some decent sized buds for sure.

I do have one of those cheap radio shack microscopes which I will use to check the trichs when the time comes, but I don't believe that I'm anywhere near that point yet. I was estimating that the harvest will be sometime around the end of this month, so that could mean another 3-4 weeks perhaps. The buds don't seem anywhere close to mature yet, and I'm just going to patiently let the plants do their own thing, and chop them when the trichs tell me that they're ready.

The odor is not strong with my NL's either, that was one of the reasons behind me picking that strain. I can definitely smell it when I move the plants around or get up close and touch the leaves, but other than that, I'm glad with the low odor, since I'm not even running any sort of carbon filter.

And yes, pretty soon we'll both be having our NL cybersmoke ! Good luck with the rest of your grow.

Well were good on the odor then, mine is the same. I will also let the plant do its thing and not go by the book. The interesting thing lately is how the plants are developing leaf wise. The taller plants have thinner sativa looking fan leaf. The bushier two have fatter, indica type leaf. But they are all Northern Lights. Next round of pictures, I will try and show you. T5

DAY 40 - 12/12

I decided to remove ('sample') one of the smaller buds tonight and I also took a few pictures. I'm estimating that harvest time will be sometime right around Halloween, perhaps a tad earlier, we'll see.

Most Excellent Greenhead. A thing of beauty. What did the pack say 45 to 50 days. Seems your on target. Can you check them with a scope?? Wonder what those glands look like. You still on that nuet schedule and molasses? Did you ever have a problem with that schedule you had? Great job!

The pack I got didn't say anything at all on it actually. The website says 8-9 weeks, so 56-63 days, according to them. I guess there's a difference between the various NL strains and different breeders. I'll be checking the trichs in a couple of days with the scope, just to see what the status is so far. I'm actually hoping for later rather than sooner, as this gives the buds extra time to put on some more weight and allows me to get in an extra feeding or two, since I only feed about once every 8 days.

I never noticed any nute burn at all since I upped the dosage of nutes, but that was only for one feeding, and I've since backed down on the strength again to play it safe, and I've been feeding just slightly more than the recommended amount along with molasses now.

dont trust the 45-50 days or whatever on the packet. its gonna be more like 60-80days

My pack doesn't say anything at all on it, but I'm not worried about that. The scope will let me know when the plants are ready. I didn't go by any days on my first grow either, since that was a bagseed, so I just played it by ear, which is the same thing that I intend to do with this second grow.

DAY 48 - 12/12

This will probably be my last update in this journal until harvest time. I gave the plants their last feeding yesterday, and they will only get water from here on out. Just like on my first grow, I've sampled quite a few buds already (5-6 so far). I've checked the trichs a couple of times with the microscope, but they don't seem quite ready yet. I'm estimating that harvest time will be anywhere from 10-14 days from now, we'll see. Here's a few pictures of one of the plants from tonight.

WOW. :) What type of yield are you expecting? 5-10? It looks like those Nirvana NL have much fatter leaves than the Female Seeds NL. I wonder what else makes them different. What % of the pistils have turned brown so far? Are the trichs amber at all yet? How many weeks is it supposed to take, 8? Good Going!

Thanks ! I'm not really sure about the yield yet, the buds aren't quite as large as I wish they were, they're definitely smaller than the buds from my first grow, but the plants both look healthy, so I guess I can't complain too much. I've already removed and smoked quite a few buds from the plants, and I'll probably end up removing a few more before harvest time. I'm 100% dry, and it's simply too tempting not to remove a few buds from my own mini grow, lol. I'd estimate that 10-15 % of the hairs have turned brown. I didn't see any amber trichs yet when I checked a few samples with the radioshack 'scope. The seller website for this NL says 8-9 weeks.
