Mulanje from Malawi

I bought these seeds over 10 years ago from Holy Smoke seeds who I am told were reselling seeds from Malberry seeds.
Anyway they were known to be very old seeds even then and I only got one female but she was a beauty.
At the time I was also growing ThaiTanic from Flying Dutchman which was listed as 70% Chocolate Thai and 30% Skunk 1.
The high was super uplifting but very short at least to my way of thinking.
So I used a male from the TT to cross to the Mulanje and just kept growing the result on and of for the last 10 years.
A couple of years ago a friend and well known good guy (MadMac) sent me some Mulanje and Malawi Gold pollen.
I used this on two pheno's of my Mulanje and it boosted the aroma and effect in an outstanding way.
I also used the same pollen on two pheno's of Aces Malawi x Ethiopia but thats another story.
I am now growing the best pheno I found of the Mulanje for seeds.
This diary is about that seed grow.
Here are a couple of pictures of that pheno that the seeds produced.

It is a shorter plant with one central cola if untoped.
The other pheno is basically the same but taller and the high is more stoney but still long lasting and energetic.

7 days on.

earlier.jpg

These seeds were planted on the 14th May so thats close to 4 weeks since they first tasted the soil.
I have 2 confirmed males 2 Matching confirmed females in the first tub.
When I pollinated the Mulanje and Malawi/Ethiopian crosses originally I had marked the buds studiously with who had what.
After a few days I did a second touch up on the same buds it was during this second touch up with Mad Macs purple leaning Malawi Gold that I sneezed and blew the whole foil of pollen over the Mulanje who was right in front of me ha ha.
So now every now and then I'm getting a purple streaking on the stalks and purple calyx's on the buds of plants.
The cobs made from these plants are exceptionally strong in every way except narcotic ha ha. I love them they have taste, smell and make my face numb at the beginning of the trip ha ha I am going up on it right now so bare with me ha ha.
The reason I mention it is that a I have a male with purple streaks and a female with purple streaks planted across from each other in the same tub.
Here they are before I touched them and introduced a second 240w LED.

The two males are in the tub on the left in the picture they are on the left side the plants beside them on the right hand side of the tub are females.

First up the male and female showing purple streaking on the stalks it may not show up in the pic but it will as they grow.

Then in the same tub a green male and matching female

Then a real Donkey of a plant and thats female as well in the second tub with the selfed plants a week behind as they were planted a week later.

I am expecting that the 3 selfed seeds will most likely be female. As the seeds were 1/4 the size of the regular seeds it will be interesting to see how they develop.
When I had finished bending and light tying of the females this is what they looked like.

A bit of training for the ladies and thats it fror another week I cant wait ha ha

7 days on and they are looking sexy to me at least being a herbivore helps ha ha.
I topped the 2 males at the back a few days ago to slow them down and allow the girls to get all sexy with it.
But it hasn't slowed them much I may have to prune some balls.

The 3 females are all preflowering like crazy and should make a lot of seeds.
All 3 have the Mulanje funk but with slightly different backgrounds from pine, lemon to menthol really tasty spread.

And then the 3 selfed seeds from the most powerful Mulanje I have grown in my last grow the clone of which was outside.
All 3 look to be female as expected.
Really happy to have these growing I was getting short on seeds ha ha.

I love how thick those main stalks are, and how well they branch out even when un-topped. Way to go keeping the line around for so long.
Much Love to MadMac too
Went for a ride today on one those cobs tripping grass man.
Here's a picture of my horse before we went out.

No kidding watch the rear purple stemmed plant on the right at back, it will grow in some insane way thats for sure.
Its already the most advanced in flowering. Its the third pic down in my post its going to have big buds and it smells of fruit.
It gets me so excited have the 3 phenos I have come across represented to pollinate with two stella males one with purple stems!
The cobs from it are very very strong by any standards very good ganja.

hahahahaha, are you kidding me? That's the happiest picture Ive seen in a long time
Glad to hear the Cob treated you well.

Thanks again for uncovering the mystery of what DJ described as African Black Magic in his book - that its not a strain but a curing technique

Most definitely the cure IMO not to say there are no purple or dark leaved strains that cure black also.
But the same flowers can be cured for either gold, red/brown or dark black depending on the cure.
I have been experimenting using my strongest cob of the purple Malawi x Malawi/Ethiopian.
In the picture below you can see a golden/red cure with dark sugar leaves and purple calyx circled.
The golden/red buds are fruity and pine and tripping potent chewed.
The dark almost black sugar leaves and small calyx are peppery pine sour and super stimulating totally different from the golden/red material made from dense buds chewed.

Looking good my friend. Love the story of how you got the purple.
I had some more black shag from that purple Malawi x Malawi/Ethiopia today its a goer ha ha.
I'm going to introduce that purple striped male to all the ladies. I should get some kicker crosses my life has become exciting again.
I've still got all the other combos to try yet, my lifes work ahead of me, well its something to do anyway ha ha.
This gear is so mind bending it takes me way back to the beginning of my life.
