Thanks for stopping by to visit! I had a label for that elm, and somehow I lost it before I wrote it down. One of these summers gonna take a pruned branch down to the local horticultural center and get it IDed. I'm kinda laid back for a bonsai enthusiast.
If you decide to do a bonsai or 2, I'll offer whatever advice I can, just ask...
gog and dub - great ideas! HPS should be great for the cacti, would be fun to grow!
Ok - here's a newb question. Half the plants have a marked change in the buds since flush time.
My first impression is they got wispy, but looking closer looks like the beginnings of swelling / filling in??? Boy, that was a quick recovery, they used to look like this just 4 days ago.
Any guess on time to go from here? Just curious.....
gotta say at least 4 weeks still to go poss as much as 6. I think some of the messing may have slowed it. Also on the pinching thing, stop it. Its a really good idea to give your trunk and branches a pinch in veg, but only once or twice, you've got to let them heal to transfer the goodness. I've been reading back on your thread a bit, your using a lot of nutes and ferts, I'm not up on all that, I dont really bother, so I'd say ease up a bit as thats my limit there.
The best advice I can give on this thread now is, dont put cacti under your hps. It destroys them. At least mine did in one 12hr lighting. I dont understand it, I'm just reporting it.
Damn, been so long since i passed by i have missed loads, your are doing a fine job of the LST with your plants and in general an excellent job as well as a delightful thread to accompany the grow, keep up the good work.
Peace
Thanks much man! Once bonsai are near where you want to keep 'em, you shrink the pot size in steps so they just have enough root to maintain. How small you can go depends on the tree. Sometimes you can get away with a pretty small pot for a large tree...
Sometimes you need a bigger pot - this pine is 3.5' tall...
Some need humoungous pots in the beginning to get them to where you want fast. Like this white paper birch. If you grow them in small pots it can take 10 years for the bark to start turning white. This one was from a dying birch, I cut it off at soil level and split the root ball in 2. Planted one of them in this 5 gal pot last spring. It's now 6 feet tall and the bottom inch of the trunk already started turning white - that's very exciting for me. I'll let her go another year or 2 before I start shaving down her roots and shrinking her pot.
Flush today - where you low or high pH??? Can't believe my soil is still testing at 7
Thanks for stoppin by and giving me a chance to chat a little about my midgets!
hey buddy lookin very short No wonder your a fan of my work lol Nice LST work there. I saw that and was reminded of a picture I was In a High Times mag that stated Not to Tie anything on your plant execpt to splint the stem or somthing let me go look again. Finally After a 20 minutes look through 7 mags I found it listen to this. Sounds too funny. The only reason to tie a plant is to hold it up. Do not tie or mutilate plant in a misguided attempt to force them to produce more resin. Damn now that was a doosie.
Whats up is they are all LST'd PNW.. Meaning he wants them to stay that short..
Where ya been man long time no see. Where did ya go PNW.. I waited forever for you.. ...Anyhow welcome back PNW.. Good to see ya.. peace..
