Year before last I spent a month and a half on the Trinity. From my experience the USFS pays no attention to your grows. In fact the dozer lines I put in , in order to protect their property , many times included putting a line around their crops.

Wonder if you cut the line below my garden. We were surrounded on all sides in that fire. 45 days of thick smoke. Met new fire fighters almost everyday. Most of them asked to take pictures standing next to the plants.

Had one of the higher up LEO guys, an old timer. Tell me that you can refuse to evacuate, its your right. They just don't want you coming and going clogging up the incident. I stayed behind, they back burned directly off our property. Luckily got all this rain this last winter, so a lot of the black is gone now. The new growth in the forest looks really lush as well.

Good luck Screws, don't inhale to much smoke and keep that fire hose ready.

Pretty sure they have severe mental issues. My uncle used to talk about crazy shit that often was just jumbled words like that dude. He was paranoid schizophrenic.

Been in touch over IG. Screws is fine and on the other side of town than the fires. Not sure how the smoke has been effecting him and his crops, but he is safe at least.

We do want some update pics when convenient. Best thread year after year.

update:

garden is doing well for the most part but i'll discuss bad news first. The main problem is one of the biggest Ancient OGs. Half the plant is wilting while the other half seems unaffected so far, although this has just developed within the past day or two.

upon investigation we discovered what seems to be a fungus attacking / eroding the base of the stalk , right above the soil surface.

I tried to get a picture. not sure if it helps. if anyone can identify what this might be? i've never seen it before.

Mounds...

Mounds...

We just started pruning out the centers of the big plants, it takes a while sometimes 2+ hours per plant. Most of them are looking really good even without being pruned yet. first layer of trellis is almost complete and they are ready to start flowering soon.

Native Soil Plot

Native Soil Plot

these are kicking ass! far exceeded expectations. They seem almost as healthy as the mounds, though not quite as big. I think they were underwatered for a while but since we installed irrigation everything has greened up nicely. I'm very impressed with this plot's vigor considering there were no amendments or nutrients given at any point besides a weekly foliar feeding. The whole plot including the walkways will be overgrown by the time everything is finished flowering.

these smaller ones were just planted in the ground about 3 weeks ago, they are already catching up to some of the earlier starts:

heres a recently transplanted Sky Lotus from bagseed that my trimmers found in our crop from 2 seasons ago. I love growing out accidental seeds!

That's not fungus my friend, you've been girdled, typically done by rabbits, they chew off and eat the outer layer of bark.

Almost nothing will kill a plant faster then getting girdled by a rabbit, that's the shits bro, I had a friend lose 7 large plants last year from that.

you know i think you're right. somebody else said that too. probably a rabbit or a gopher. it's totally possible. I've seen rabbits in the garden. fucking hate those little shits. We already lost one plant this year, this would be number two, and i suspect they are working on a third. That's what i get for not using wire baskets in all the mounds.

at least it's not some kind of disease. I hope the rest of the garden makes it thru to harvest

wow those native plants are real eye openers... gotta get my native soil tested, you tried that yet?

sorry to hear about the fungal issues, try adding trichoderma to your foliars and hit the base of the stock with it, will help prevent these kinds of things and will fight the infected ones (im using rootshield, from everwood, ordered with some pacific gro (seashield)... fusarium and hemp canker are whole plant killers which is a real pain in the ass with the limited plant numbers

edit: oww i didn't even think of rabbits, what a pain in the ass... just another reason to pick up a .22lr

A wire basket won't keep them out unless it keeps them from getting to the trunk of the plant.

Around here the we're infested with rabbits, they could decimate an entire garden in a few hours. We have to bury chicken wire a foot deep around the entire fence to the garden to keep the little fuckers out.

I'll assume from your pics your garden is not fenced off? You might have to get some live traps and catch them and relocate them, or a .22 rifle and send a message to them all.

we put baskets in about half the mounds, they stick up from the soil about 8 inches and are sharp on top. none of the plants in those mounds have any damage.

no fence you are correct. i assume they will be back so will look into traps. I dont have time to post up with a rifle and wait for them. i would use a 12 gauge though anyway
