tried to make a mound today. it did not go as easily as i thought it would. the hardware cloth basket kind of fucks up the shape of the mound! also it took a bit more soil than i thought. I'm still hopeful that it will look badass when finished.

so its about 10 feet diameter and 3ft tall. I'm goin to make the top flat so it will be like a 3 or 4 ft diameter flat circle on top and then gently sloping sides

when it's done i will put a plant in it. first of the season. still goin to wait on the soil tests so i can amend the rest of the pots before i make them into mounds and plant in them but i just wanted to make one mound and see how it works.

Not sure. Trying to figure out what form to use. Sulfates are the cheapest but this soil is high in sulfate so I've been advised to apply sulfates slowly and to work on leaching them out first. So I don't know why I can't just apply amino acid chelated elements. Leadsled actually sells sulfate and amino chelated amendments and has good prices and smaller amounts for purchase so I'll probably buy from him. Mbferts.com carries cheap micronutrients, too.

you try using ground staples? I made my mounds by just scraping the ground flat and laying down hardware cloth and stapling it to the ground. If not the dirt gets under it and definitely pushes it up. I don't put sidewalls or anything and it works great. I try to shape the tops flat and then just cover in rice straw and drop the drip line. Make sure you make channels in the dirt to hold the water in at first.

Hey going to go primarily with Sky Lotus this year and trying to decide if i should give any of these try any of these in my big mounds. Any thoughts?

Mr C. i'm not forming each whole mound from scratch. i'm tryin to figure out the best way to turn my existing 800 gal pots into 5yard mounds.

yesterday i made one, removed the fabric liner from my 800gal pots, leaving just the hardware-cloth basket full of soil. then added another yard of dirt on too and shaped it into a mound. idk if that makes sense but i'll take a picture later.

it didnt work that well, the sides of the basket busted and made it hard to shape the mound properly. also i'm still tryin to figure out how to make channels like you were saying.

re: strains, out of that list, the Dream Lotus stands out. i have some going in veg and they all have a great blue dream structure and seem really vigorous

hope youre spring is going well.. peace!

yeah , need a pic of the mounds , preferably prepped and stripped down just before you intend to add soil to make it into a mound . if thats where your starting to run into problems . sure you will get some good idea,s on the next step , maybe pic of the mound you finished

@mr chocolate , those pink panther crosses would be nice . the pink lotus i finished i had 4 , were awesome , finished early ,yield , bag appeal and smell (mold resistant ). sent some samples out today to be smoke tested for a few opinions . i,m keen to have another crack at them .thats all i,ve grown on that list, well except for the sky lotus . my guess is your already comfortable with that choice ;)

Obviously you can grow in flat top containers like 800 gallon pots. But one of the main advantages of mounds is that they move water away from the main stalk into the root tips, where water and nutes are actually taken up. That prevents the main stalk from sitting in water where fungus can start up easily.

Hello Schrews, forgive the intrusion on your thread but I would like to ask your opinion. I have been following your threads for 2 years and am happy to see the progress you have made. You really killed it last summer. I value the experience you must have gained growing all those giants.

I am growing 4 strains this year and will have the opportunity to do some breeding. However I cannot decide which male to use to pollinate the girls.

Here Are The Strains!

Hell In A Bucket = Sugaree (Grapefruit/Cinderella 99) ♀ x Gorilla Princess (gorilla glue/princess 99) ♂

Granola Funk = Girl Scout Cookie Forum Cut X Wookie

Buddhas Hand = Lemon Thai Indica landrace X Snow Lotus

Blackberry Dream = (Blue Dream/Strawberry cough) X Blackberry Kush

I will grow one female of each and need to choose the male to cross with all 4 of these strains from this list. I have never grown any of these strains before except the Blackberry Dream which I bred myself. Any input on the other strains and suggestions would be very appreciated.

Much respect
Sincerely
CoastalKind

A guy on Instagram had an idea on making mounds I wanted to borrow. He makes a 4'x4' square, two foot tall out of wood like a mold, then fills it with soil and lifts the mold off leaving a nice shaped mound, like a flat top pyramid. Hardware cloth can come in two foot rolls, get some of that and make 4x4x2 foot cages to fit within the mold, or possibly outside of it. After lifting mold you would still need to add dirt around the square to slow water loss, although a lot of mulch might work. The 4x4 holds 1.5 yds soil. lovely_farms was where I saw it
