Mk III Terpenator

Glacier has parts for no machining lil terp. Let convince to make the tops for MKIII. I do not understand the reasons for smaller pipe dimensions, and lengths.

Have all but lids, column, and g5.

This is one reason why i am leaning towards a pre-built system such as the Tam. I'd hate to spend money on parts to build it myself to be stuck sourcing a few much needed parts to complete the build. That, and Specialized has not responded to me.

shoot! now that i have been reading all weekend my head is spinning. So, is the terpenator/MKIII a butane extractor? I kind of doddled back and forth between CO2 and butane and did not even realize i was jumping back and forth between threads here, the pharm and other forums.

The Lil Terp is a passive butane extraction device like the Tamisium, and the Terpenators are hydrocarbon extraction devices that all use pumps, so can also run with propane.

The Terpenators can also extract and recovery at subzero temperatures, so as to do things not possible with a passive recovery system relying on heat.

I personally use a vacuum pump to first evacuate my Lil Terp, because having butane and oxygen in the same tank is a potentially explosive condition, so I first remove the oxygen.

Tamisium accomplishes a partial vacuum chilling the receiving tank. That partial vacuum isn't anywhere near the -29.92" Hg that I evacuate down to with a pump, so after loading it is necessary to burp the tanks to vent off the trapped atmosphere.

Not sure why you aren't getting a response from Specialized Formulations, but I do know that they are in the business to sell Terpenators, not Lil Terps, and special orders take special attention, during a time that they are over their heads buried.

I do know that they've made custom parts for Tamisum owners to up grade efficiency, which they couldn't get from Tamisium, but that was for the larger units.

Specialized Formulations had Mike at Glacier send Skunk Pharm Research prints to China for bids building them there. Mike gave her the bids, and now offers critical key parts such as an injection tee conical reducer on their site, which as far as I can tell have no other purpose than a Mk III Terpenator, but someone may have stumbled on a new applications in the beer industry.

He also now offers the 6" X 1.5" end cap reducer, which does have other applications, and lacks only the hole for the 1/4" pipe to be useable for either the Lil Terp and the Mk IIIA

The reason that he doesn't offer it with the vent tube hole, may be is too specifically for extracting cannabis, which Mike stated to me that he doesn't want the name of Glacier Tank associated with because of federal ramifications.

thanks for the additional info Wolf, i'll give it more time to hear back from Specialized since the Tam and the MKIII are roughly the same price. the goal is to get the cleanest product for tumor tests.

I hate to say it but Carla at Specialized has never been good with returning emails as proven by all the customers that contact me and all the posts on skunkpharm about them not returning emails. And really, if you are going to drop 2k on a system, you'd kind of expect a really quick response.

So imagine what will happen when you spend all this money and have questions? I personally want to buy something that is supported and easy to have questions answered, and when there are issues, I am not expected to turn to online forums to figure it out.

you're not alone.
even allen(?) dissed my queries w/ "sorry we're swamped", that was about a year ago...
I've given up.

sounds like only those inquiring about the high dollar commercial systems will get their attention. That ship is sailing pretty quickly

the funny thing is that Carla only sells the IIIa. makes me wonder how happy GW is with her if his son is building the big systems now?

I'm not sure who that is Trichrider.

well, we sell systems from 150g to 5lbs based off of GW's design, and of course, always cheaper than anyone else... and we return emails the same day, if not sooner

I will encourage Eloquentsolution to take time from trying to dig out and read this thread.

I have no part in running Specialized Formulations, and my suggestions are not uniformly embraced, or always appreciated, so re-mediating the situation is in her's and her new CEO Allan's hands.

That makes it easier for me to maintain a cordial relationship conducting joint Skunk Pharm Research activities.

In my dotage, it seems clear to me that the customers will go where they get the most utility at the margin. The utility isn't all about price, but includes product quality, and customer service.

I have my friends, alliances, and family, but I still shop for the best deal, and encourage everyone else to do so.

If you want the market, be the greatest utility at the margin and then it doesn't matter what anyone says about you, even if it isn't true.

Has nothing to do with happiness, it has to do with the practical aspects of engineering and building complex systems, involving multiple engineering disciplines.

There are subtle differences between a Mk IIIA, and larger fully automated recovery systems, with multiple columns and collection pots.

Even though Carla is a talented Electrical Engineer, from a practical standpoint, with Specialized Formulations struggling to dig out from their current business load, adding more to their pile hardly seems like a good idea. Supporting any of their efforts to dig out, seems like a better one.

I am not a part of Specialized Formulations, so my ideas and suggestions are also not always appreciated or accepted gracefully. Staying out of her business smooths our relationship as partners in SPR.

Waywardwolf, on the other hand, is ready to start a new career at age 44, and I would like to share with him what I learned in my professional lifetime, as part of his heritage. I have never been able to do so up to this point, because his mother and I divorced and she moved him far away, so as to limit our time together.

We also almost always have a good time together, but I notice that he takes a lot of what I share with a grain of salt as well, and comes up with good ideas of his own, so the success of WolfWurx may lie in Waywardwolf's ability to pick the best ideas, and of course, to run his company, so as to service the customers needs.

In the interim, there are a lot of others offering competitive systems that work too, so may the best system prevail! Hee, hee, hee..................

I think you kinda stated it... the relationship is strained, which I've heard elsewhere.

On some level I wish you would stop promoting her as she indirectly tarnishes your reputation by overcharging, expecting you and others to provide support, not responding to emails, willing to mislead people with how much they can run with the IIIa in a day, and other stuff.

so are we actually going to hear from your son on the forums? I'm sorry to hear about that regarding your son, but it is great to hear that you two finally have an opportunity such as this! :)

Yes, the industry is changing and there are many good systems out there. :) luckily I've got them all beat on price!

Yeah that's one thing that pretty much pissed me off about Carla. I told her what size of farm I have and how much material I have to run, I ended up with a second MK3 system...Not once did she offer the following sage advice "It's going to take a bigger tube and system"

Which I'm building now...but she can make a damn good truffle..

yeah, I'm sorry man :( she told some guy who worked alone that he could run 4 IIIa's by himself to process all the material he wanted. He had already bought 3 systems from her having never used the closed loop. That was when I lost all respect for Carla, realized she cared more about selling her systems than making sure the customer got the correct system for their needs, etc.

The only reason she is still in business is because GW keeps plugging her. I don't wish bad on anyone, but I really would like to see her out of this aspect of the business as she is not doing anyone any good. Hell, she can't even put time in on the forums, she just reaps the benefit of others hard work.

So what are the limitations of the mk3?
what size are the standard tubes? and how much material to fill them?
are they easily switched?
How many times can I repack the tube and not overfill the collection pot ? (I wish)
Any other tips or advice from owners, especially things NOT to do?
should be getting one in the next couple of months and I cant wait!

if you start running more than 2lbs a day in the IIIa, you need to upgrade to a bigger system. you will never want to use your IIIa again once you use a bigger system. doing 2.5lbs in one run is so freaking nice. everything is easier to clean... so nice.

yeah, the guy who bought those three systems almost cried when I told him the truth :( I really felt bad for the guy :(

I don't recommend running multiple tubes into the same base, but that is me.

how much material does the mk3 hold?

edit; I just re-read some of the thread and on the first page Graywolf says 2 oz in the tube pictured, but you could switch between a 6" and 36" tube. would the 36" tube hold 10 oz/ half pound ish ?

120-190 grams per standard 1.5 x 24in spool, depending on material and packing pressure. Tubes change out in a minute by releasing two clamps.
