Mk III Terpenator

Question Breakdown

Question Breakdown

Hey Graywolf, ICmag!

As of now I have just landed myself a contract in Southern California large enough for me to justify purchasing a closed loop system. I have some questions they are as follows:

1) As of now I have the DIY 450g MKIII Kit, the 6'' Shatter Platter, Vinyl Labels in my Terp Kart. I know I need hoses, recovery tank, scale as well, I have those on Amazon. I do not need a recovery pump because I plan to run passive.

2) I noticed that Terp has the PTFE Lined hoses pretty taxed, if I'm not mistaken I can get the same ones for >100USD. I'm just confused as to if they are actually the right ones - Found Those Here .
What Fitting do I need to properly assemble the MKIII? I believe its the SAE one? I don't want the quick connects because I've heard they leaked. I'm really only interested in larger hoses to boost recovery time with the less-viscous COLD butane.

3) I don't see any gauges in the DIY kit? I want to know exactly what I'm running PSI/HG wise, so where would I go to purchase something like that and where do I put it on the system?

4) Eventually I plan on running an external dewax similiar to how BretMaverik is running his Sweetleaf V3. I plan on running a secondary column with a dewax jacket around it. Doesn't that column have to be large enough to hold all the butane from the run? and how does that work, do they bypass the dewax chamber until they have fully rinsed the material and then flood it into the external dewax chamber, then collection, then recover?

Also, does Terpenator have an option where they could excuse the regular material spool and give me a price reduction for the dewaxed one?

The type of hose will work, but 3/16" is too small. Suggest 3/8 or 1/2".

We use the Just Better M2 250 compound gauges.

That would be a perfect question to ask on the Sweetleaf column.

I was trying to order a dozen of the "Just Better M2 250 compound gauges" but have been told they no longer make that model, and they do not have a replacement at this time.

Wowza! That has yet to affect the stocking on the shelf here and they are still listed by JB, so that surprises me.

Whom did you try to order them from?

Ashcroft makes a stainless compound gauge with calibration screw, but it is not as finely graduated as the JB is and costs more.

Tried to order from Century Tool, apparently JB apprised them that they were no longer available and there was no replacement at this time. :tiphat:

These Hoses

With no disrespect to Terrp, I don't wanna pay 3x what the market price is for hoses. I seem to have found some Teflon/PTFE Hoses but I don't know the fittings.

I know I need (2x) 1/4'' SAE Female, but I don't see that option? Is that the 1/4'' SAE Swivel Long? The fittings are on the right side under options. I just want a larger hose circumference to speed up passive recovery times with a much colder slushy butane.

We use JIC for the stainless hose fittings and have them assembled at Associated Hose, Motion and Flow, or Unisource.

We also had some made by Pacific Rubber in Eugene.

The fittings on your mkii are 1/4" and 3/8" 45° SAE. 37° JIC hoses will work with 1/4" SAE and still form a seal, because they have the same thread size. But the 3/8" SAE and JIC do not share a thread size and are therefore not compatible.

The guys at Terp said to stay away from the jic?

We use JIC exclusively. As noted, the threads are the same on the 1/4 and 1/2", and you can get dual seated fittings that work with both 37 degree JIC and 45 degree SAE.

We use a copper flare washer when we mate the two.

Why wouldn't I be getting solely the sae 45s then?

Please check out the stainless fittings thread. It has this whole issue in vast detail. :)

TLDR: there is a real lack of 45 degree stainless fittings - esp in 1/2". It is a lot more difficult to convert between than you would think- lack of fittings to convert

I got my whole diy kit assembled but realized I was never shipped a 3/8 flare to 3/8NPT fitting but instead received four 1/4flare to 3/8NPT. I ordered three hoses total from doscounthydralochose, 3/8 diameter ptfe hoses @ 4' length. With two hoses being 1/4 jic female, and one hose being a 3/8 jic female fitting, am I on the right track? Does home depot type thing (national chain) carry SS fittings to where I can get my necessary 3/8 fitting for the top of the tree? My #5 recovery valve

You are on the right track, but our Home Depot isn't a good source for stainless fittings. Try Associated Hose, Motion and Flow, or Unisource
