My little lady went in the flower chamber a few days ago, and is just settling in - got her as close to the light as possible for now to minimize any vertical growth, but I'll be tying her down as soon as she takes off - got no room for any stretchy bizness in there. Just trying to get a good rootball going for now, with lots of Rhizotonic...

Good luck mate, I doubt she will stretch much, she will get 3-4x taller but it's not what you would call stretch, the nodes stay close together and she just grows a lot before starting to flower. It will take two weeks for her to put out the first pistils and another week after that for flowering to set in, then she will take 13, maybe 14 weeks to be fully ripe. I had to chop her the first time at 12 as there was some mould issues, but she could have easly gone a week or two longer. If she is a single cola, and grows to 2 feet, she will be 2 feet of pretty much continuous bud, just one big cola, when I grew her the first time she was two long continuous colas with 3-4 chunky buds on her branches.

The stems are incredibly strong on her so no worries about doing any damage when carrying out any bondage on her, so tying down will work great.

Well, I wish I could, but out of the 50-odd seeds I brought home I got 5 to sprout. Out of the first batch 2 years ago I got 1 plant, a male and I culled it. When I tried germing the second batch I got 4 to sprout, 1 hermie, 3 females, so I don't have a male. All 3 females were really nice but there was one clear keeper.

El Yucateca is now 20 days into 12/12 and has begun to slow down her stretch and begin flowering. At this point in her life she looks deceptively indica leaning, but that will change as she flowers. There are 5 main colas and 3-4 smaller ones plus many little branches, I am hoping yield will be impressive from this run. As you can see, she is a lovely dark shade of green and very healthy, she is obviously loving the organics, so far this experiment is pretty successful it seems.

Very impressive show! After reading this thread, I will never turn my nose up to bagseed. Interesting how the Yucateca starts out looking indica-ish. I saw something similar in another thread on a 'found' south african grow.

Cheers RubbaDub. You're right, some African strains do start out looking quite indica then explode into huge sativas, I've grown Swazi varieties that started out looing very indica.

About leaves...here is a Durban Poison I germed, my only one to germ. Turned out to be a male. The leaves were HUGE on it at this point , about 4 weeks into veg. Even when it was 2 feet tall and began to flower , the leaves were still very large. The pot is a 1Liter pot for reference.

I've heard some Northern Mexican strains look more indica in their growth patterns. Nice grows gents :D Nice to see BH and EM again. Happy New Year mates.

Thanks glock23 - all the best to you too. Though being the difficult type, I prefer to celebrate New Year at spring equinox on March 21st. It always seems a far more sensible time to have it - the clocks change, the daffodils are out, and everything is 'new', as opposed to this godforsaken backwater of a season, in this miserable Northern hole, where it gets dark at 4pm - 3 when it's overcast...:(

Anyway, that's my NY rant over, so here's a pic of El Yucateca at 1 week of 12/12, just beggining to find her feet and unfurl:

I hate Ny too, had some rotten times at NY, this year being no exception, I'm thoroughly miserable at the moment, like EM says, it gets dark mid-afternoon, I'm even further north than him and I haven;t seen the bloody sun for weeks, one day in 5 it doesn;t rain all day, rotten horrible place to be at this time of year. If I didn't have a nice stash of buds to keep me going, winters here would be unbearable.

Great to see El Yucateca in someone else's garden, look forward to seeing what you do with her.

Well the good news is my headaches stopped on the 21st December, bang on time as always. My brain clearly goes into flower when the sativas do...:)

But yeah, the dark is driving me crazy too - slightly drier climate where I am, so I do see the sun a little more, but the last two weeks it's been mostly dull, overcast and utterly boring.

As with you, good bud is all that's keeping me going right now - Grape Krush, Flo and of course the good old Thai - back again. Also just managed to find a quarter of the smelly (Mystery Strain) from the original source, and some of the so-called Blueberry we get, which is pretty good, if a bit narcotic for my tastes. And there'll be some of that so-called G13 around again next week too, so I'll be OK!

In the meantime, El Yucateca is beginning to spread her wings...:)

That is downright wierd aboiut the way the headaches are seasonal, and the timing is so precise, damn strange!

A nice selection of quality buds you have to enjoy, I like the Thai a lot, looks like it may become a regular staple in your area, that would be good news, woudl liek to taste that one again sometime. I put 5 of the type 1 Thai seeds from those sticks into paper towels a couple of days ago, just remembered no so better go check if they have sprouted! The smelly is good stuff so glad you found some more, i really liekd that 'G13', thought it was really good but more skunky and fruity than I expected and not that stony, more of a balanced effect.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how much size she will pack on in the next 10-15 days, it's not really stretch as the nodes remain quite clopse, she grows like mad.

El Yucateca is now at 25 days of 12/12 and has fileld out nicely, she is a lovely bush with a fairly flat top, there are 5 main colas and several smaller ones. The leaves are a lovely glossy green colour, no burnt tips and no clawing, she is being fed my organic mixture at ec 2.0, ph 5.8 and seems to like it very much!

Resin is just starting to appear, she will take at least 12 weeks to flower, and doesn't get that resinous, but resin does not always equate to potency and she isn't lacking in strength.

I still think it is nothing short of amazing that a plant that looks as indica influenced as this one has a totally sativa high with no trace of body stone, a rare beast indeed imho.

Mine is starting to go now - very vigorous growth and nice shiny leaves. I've tied it back slightly to open it up and get the smaller shoots exposed - I don't think this one will be spindly though! My camera just ran out of juice, so I'll buy new batteries and get a couple of pics up soon.

The way you describe the high is dead on with what great mexican weed is like in my experience. About the only way I can label it is an ether and alcohol buzz. The feeling where you start to get drunk and you notice the effects in your body+mind quickly. However if you have been drinking enough alcohol to feel it the mexi almost always overkills the alcohol. Nothing beats the mind racing variants of cannabis. I've had very similar results with a specific pheno of pure powerplant. It's weird to hear people talk about the hybridization of the mexican landraces. What will happen to these wonderful gems that people have overlooked as of recent? It's a shame to think of the specimens in the genepool that will be diluted in the coming years.

I think El Yucateca is a hybrid, her sister that I just harvested didn't flower properly, she looked just like El Yucateca, same huge colas, but she never filled out, juyst remained loads of thing stongs of calyxes, the whole thing went in the hash pile. Probably that one was a pheno closer to the original Mexican sativa and El Yucateca has a bit more of whatever she was hybridised too in her makeup, but that is a good thing as it means she will flower properly indoors and the high is still authentic speedy heady Mexican.

I totally agree about how a good Mexican high will cut through any alcohol buzz. I found that out for myself in Mexico. A bottle of Tequila Mezcal and some El Yucateca buds is a powerful combination, my friends and I had a Mexican Theme Night a while back, I brought the Mexican buds and a bottle of Mezcal I brought back from Cancun and had been saving, someone else made tacos, that was about as Mexican as it got sadly, just lots of big bong rips of Mexican with Tequila slammer chasers, god were we mashed! lol

El Yucateca is now at 30 days of 12/1 and is still looking green, glossy and healthy, lapping up the organics at ec 2.0, ph 5.5. The first resin is appearign and from now on in she won't get any taller, the buds will just fill in and she will soon have half a dozen nice big colas and a host of chunky lower buds.

I'm looking forward to starting some of the Trainwreck x Mexican seeds and finnding the best male to backcross to El Yucateca, I figure that is a good route to creating an El Yucateca seedline as the Trainwreck has a similar type of high, being mostly Mexican and Thai genes.
