Mexican - El Yucatero

Mexican bagseed, about 11 weeks, could have gone a few days more, but found a little spot of mould on a lower bud and chopped her. The mould was only on a bud leaf that was damaged and hadn't spred to the calyxes nearby, so I caught it just in time. She is pretty damn dense for a sativa, loof like she has some commercial genes in her, yield is excellent. The other Mexican lady is also a heavy yielder but is much more leafy.

Just a lucky pick with the yield, all the buds on her are pretty decent sized and the upper ones pretty dense, the lower ones furthest from the light are a bit airy, but I reckon there is over an ounce on her easy, so I'm really pleased. There are still three plants left to harvest from my first coco run, and so far the biggest yield was 32g from a Purple Afghan, with a Cheese cut and another Afghan weighing in at 25g. I reckon this Mexican might hit 40, fingers crossed. Not bad for a 250w lamp and 1.5 litres of coco. I used canna coco a+b and Atami Atazyme and PK13-14. I mixed the Canna nutes to ec 1.6 then added pk to take it upto 1.9, although that was a tad high for this Mexican I think as she has curved and glossy leaves. The burning on some of her leaf is from growing too close to the HPS. I have to say, I think Canna nutes are fantastic. I ordered some more for my second coco run and they never arrived, so I'm using AN Monkey Juice with AN Sensizym and Hammerhead, hope I get just as good results.

Well, I have to say, this Mexican is very potent, very racing and heady, exactly what I was looking for, and dred she tipped the scales at a whopping 44g, beating my previous best for this first coco run of 32g from Purple Afghan #3, so I'm a happy camper, and I have kept a clone of this Mexican too. I harvested 16 Mexcian x Flo beans from her too, so my lucky bagseed find will be around my grow for a while longer.

The second female is turning purple, there are some calyxes turning purple and the underside of all the leaves has turned purple. Lights off temps have been dropping to 14 celsius so I doubt it's due to low temps.

Some pics of the dried Mexican buds:

Very unusual bud size for a mexican.Beautiful.BH,when you say commercial genes, does that mean it could be a farmed line that's been heavily selected through generations,or bred in the dam specifically for the Mexican Farmers?
Peace

i had some seed come up on my deck one year it was some mexican somthing it was hermieville but grew it out any way.let me tell you it was strong with the smell of a pine tree.and when dried i put it in plastic bags .and when me and my brother took turns smelling the bag we got light headed.when smoked it was like smoking meth rush and up all night laghing all night .i keeped the seedes and used the pollen to seed a ak47 and now i have female seedes of a mix the plants have a shap of ak47 and at the end of fower ther is a couple of sterile bannanas .but that one plant started me on my growing life.on og me and my brother bought my first light it was the guts and we built it frome scratch .whaiting on a settelment to come through i learned with tic, bog, and others on og.when my mony came in i whent to a out of state hydro store and bought lights ,carbone filter ,bulbs and all the organics i could use like eathjuice products and bat guono.i still have the seedes i made and every once in a while i will crack a few open i know ther is a special pheno in ther .one of the first ones i grew was big as hell yeild over one pound for one plant and sent my brother into sycosses.he is alright now but he can only smoke a 50/50 mix sativa indaca.i have some kalimist growing now and he does not whant any thing to do with it .i gave hime a bud and he took a littel and put it in the end of a cig and he got blasted .he cant emagine smoking a j of solide kali wich i love sativas.i was thinking of crossing that old mexican cross with my jlp sdxogbx1 just to find a special pheno.

highs ta ye all.

congratulations British... you went very lucky, as there are not too many phenotypes as the one you got.... would be very nice to make a back cross... or maybe crossing it with your zamal haze, you will obtain a very compact and potent sativa.

also i would like to say, that the name you put to the herb is YucateCo, not YucateRo... can you see???... as the state of Yucatán is for shure the one who gave birth to that magnificent herb.

i have found some very interesting phenos around here (Chiapas)... quite close to the ones you showe here..... im working on them, in order to choose the best males and females, to obtain, some very productive/short flowering time sativas.

i´d love you to use the "real" name of this weed, because as i said,...is just the name of the state, and maybe, a good reference to ye all Marijuanos, when come over to my country.
i also recommend you (if your looking for some cool, land-race sativas) to visit Chíapas, Oaxáca, Cancún (and the whole penninsula of Yucatán),... and some fellas told me that there is something very interesting around Cozumél... near cancún... and of course, other states, like Michoacan, and Zacatecas, which is producing some purple weed.

congratulations again, and keep us informed about that "Yucatéca".

greetings from the Lacandonian jungle :joint:

Hi guys, thanks for poppin in! Yes, it has a minty/menthol taste, very refreshing and fits perfectly with it's racing, speedy high, I really like the effect of this one, you can get insanely high on this one, it's pretty potent and is some of the best daytime and party weed I've had, much excited chatterign and giggling goes on after smokignthis, I really am happy to have a Mexican that has some of the qualities folks always talk about - speedy, racy, giggly high, minty taste, it's definitely better than the schwag it came from, which also had a speedy, racy high.

Welcome te pukuj, great to have some info from a grower actually living in Mexico. I have a friend in Canada who has a really old Chiappan strain he says is some of the best sativa he has ever smoked, he has made some hybrids too. Not tried any myself.

I have travelled a few places as well as Cuncan in both Yucatan and Merida, such as Valladollid, Chichen Itza, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen etc. and never saw any indigenous plants, but as the Yucatan is mostly jungle, it's not easy! All the weed i bought and smoked in the Yucatan had a good effect, 'hidroponico' commercial, also called 'sticky green' was available at top dollar prices in Cancu resort, but it's stupid to buy there, they work in league with the police. I ignored all the taxi drivers that offered to take me to buy weed and scored from a small market by looking at the pipes and ashtrays on sale and buying a pipe, then was asked if I wanted something to fill it. I got about 5gs of brick for 40 bucks that time. I also scored from a security guard at my hotel, he spoke almost no English but was very friendly and brought me at first a small amount of very poor brick, dark green with lots of stalks. When I asked him the next day for more, I managed to get him to bring me a few different quite large 15-20g lumps in newspaper of better quality, the last lump he brought, after I told him I'd give him 100 bucks to bring me the best mota he could find, was the best, lime green almost, not bricked, just dried unmanicured sativa buds lightly pressed, probably grown locally by a farmer. It has no mature seeds. I brought back about 50 seeds, not one germed, must have been immature, I threw aaway hundreds of white immature ones in Mexico, so they were harvesting early, before seeds were fully ripe.

Second visit to Cancun I travelled a lot more and scored a few different lumps of weed ranging from dirty brown brick loaded with seeds to light green, still fluffy sativa that made my head feel like it was made of clouds and had no seeds. I bought that piece from an ancient old lady at a roadside stall in the middle of nowhere on a side road off the main coastal highway somewhere south of Playa del Carmen. I would love some seeds of that variety. She spoke not a word of English and was one of those really short people of that area who look like they are genetically 100% indigenous with no Hispanic genes at all, she was no more than 4ft tall I reckon. She handed me a handful of this wonderful sativa and I gave her a 20 dollar bill, she grinned and made me take a second handful as she reckoned 20 bucks was too much for what she had given me, so I got 20gs of great sativa buds for 20 bucks when you'd play 50 bucks for an eighth of bad schwag in Cancun resort. Hehe, I only pulled over to buy a watermelon from this old lady sat at the roadside selling fruit, and she sold me some of the best green I've seen! lol I felt pretty safe in that part of Mexico too, the locals were very friendly.

I don't speak Spanish, so i made a mistake when reading the label on this bottle of salsa habanero (muy piquante!) I brought home from Cancun for my dad, who loves spicy food. Notice he hasn't been brave enough to try this bottle yet, the other bottle was stupidly hot he said.

El-Yucateca.jpg

So I'll follow this suggestion and call this Mexican girl 'El Yucateca', it describes her origins and I like the sound of it.

BH, you've inspired to try to grow bagseed one of these days. Next time I find a batch of surprisingly good brickweed (not often anymore because I don't buy as much of the cheap stuff as I used to) I'll hold onto a few of the seeds. You've shown us that you can find potent plants without paying for seeds...

Thanks for the kind words guys, if this little thread has convinced at least one person to experiemnt with some bagseed, I'm a happy man, I'm really against the high prices of many seedlines and the whole elite clone BS. I'm just a moderately skilled grower messing around with a couple of 250w lamps in small spaces, I can't afford to buy expensive seeds, and I love exotic sativas. I'm delighted to have found 'El Yucatera', she stacks up well in my eyes to 99% of the plants I've grown from seeds I bought.

Shame I never got a Mexican male so I can't preserve the genes in pure seed form, but I've revegged her into a mother and have 20 or so beans from her that I hope were fathered by the Flo pollen I dusted on her, but could have come from the Mexican hermie I had as the other Mexican lady thhat was ruined by mould had about 20 seeds too and I never dusted her with any pollen. I thought I'd caught that hermie in time before it shed pollen, looks like I was wrong.

So I find it kinda ironic that my bagseed Mexicans made me 40 or so more mexican bagseeds! They really are bagseeds as they have unknown fathers, only way to know if they are of any use is to grow em out sometime in the future. I'm very glad to have her as a mother now as I reckon I wasn't all that close to having her dialled in this grow and am keen to run har as a clone and get her dialled in to see what potential she really has. I'm also looking forward to making some more crosses to her. First one will probably be to my Trainwreck. I'm gonna cheat with that one. The revegged mother still has a load of popcorn buds on her and the TW male is about to start dropping pollen any day now so I'll dust all the pocorn on the revegged mother with TW pollen. I've done this trick before and it works great, the calyxes bear seeds just as normal while the plant continues to veg and grow.

After that, I'll probably hit a cut of her with some Sour Diesel pollen, just cos it sounds like it might be an interesting cross to grow out one day.

Looking at your plants,I'm finally starting to understand how wide-spread the hybridization of landraces down south has become.Of the last 50 or so bagseeds varieties I've grown out in the last couple of years, most have looked identicle to yours with little variation.I can only think of 1 definate landrace I've gotten and 3 others that probably were. The rest were somewhat fast flowering, stocky varieties.

that's been my experience. very little pure sativa landrace in brickweed get. 1 out of 20 was and took forever to finish. 4-5 months finish i don't know. could of gone longer, but went hermie. ugly plant. buds not dense. great smoke. smells like my grandmas cookies. great if you like crazy, energetic, paranoid. it feels like your smoking crack. though i don't know what that's like.

before drying.

Well, I'm not claiming 'El Yucateca' is an authentic landrace, I'm sure she is not, there are two other phenos from those seeds, one was similar but much leafier, she had the same big yield and the buds were very similar, slightly larger calyxes and the buds a little more dense, she was rotten with grey mould so all went in the hash trim pile bar 11g of smaller lower buds. These had a stronger taste than El Yucateca and were fruity, the smoke was nice, more expansive but had a flatter high, not a keeper but nice enough in it's own way. The third pheno is currently flowering and is again similar, but is probably a more indica pheno as it has broader leaves and a more indica structure. Buds look similar, perhaps a bit frostier and also looks to be a huge yielder, is formign one very large cola.

So what I think I have with El Yucateca is a hybrid of Mexican to an indica, probably an Afghani type, or maybe a Dutch commercial variety, who knows, but there is definitely much more Mexican in her genes than indica, she has absolutely no body stone whatsoever, it;s all in the head and a potent, racy, speedy kick in the synapses it is too, can be a little disconcerting and paranoid if overdone, but once you get used to her super speedy high, you don't suffer the paranoia and unsettling-ness (is that a word?) of her psychedelic edge, there are subtle auditory halucinations and the speedy effects can unsettle someone on early samplings, my friends have experienced the same kind opf mad happenings and paranoia but tinged with fits of giggles I experienced in Mexico smoking the brick the seeds came from.

So to be honest, i couldn't give a toss that she is 'tainted' by indica genes, she performs very well indoors under lights, producing a unique and exciting, energetic high, so I;m delighted to have an authentic Mexican high than will perform indoors under lights. Although the hybridisation was not done by a breeder in order to make the Mexican high attainable indoors, that has been the end result, to me, she is preferable to a pure Mexican as I've grown a pure Mexican heirloom called Speed Weed that is a bugger to grow indoors and doesn't finish properly, even after 24 weeks. Speed Weed is probably a Pacific Coast type and, as the name implies, has a speedy high with no body effect, it's at least 30 years old, came from an old timer in Cali. In El Yucateca I have what I was looking for from a mexican variety - a speedy, energising, heady, no body stone pure high. I avoid smoking her late at night as it's then hard to sleep, but for daytimes, social gathering and parties she is fantastic, pretty much everyone who's sampled her is taken aback by just how different the effects of cannabis can be from the run-of-the-mill flat stone of most commercial mainstream polyhybrids these days, many of them have never smoked bud that had these speedy, get ya high as hell and make the world a daft, giggly, slightly psychedelic place populated by things that both amuse and unsettle, smoke a load of this bud, slam a couple of Tequilas and the world becomes a different place, reality is refracted through the prism of your brain into something subtly different from normal and you'll have all kinds of shits and giggles, possibly involving Canadian Girls, Pool balls, Mexican lounge lizard singers and alligators.
