Here are the three seedlings at 14 days old from the four seeds that came from the same bud as the one the KC was grown from. One is a wierd runt mutant with varigated leaves, will probably grow out of it. The second one looks pretty xativa and has long, varigated first true leaves. The second true leaves strangely have two blades, not three. The third one looks more indica and when it was a few days old it fell over, but it has kept growing and doesn't look to be suffering, just has a bent stem!
Fingers crossed the sativa looking one is a male, be great to cross to the KC cut.
The Trainwreck x Mexican seedlings are 36 days old and aren't doing well. One died yesterday and the others are really small and underdeveloepd for their age. They have suddenly begun to flower and there is one male and two females, the male has been culled and I might cull the females too as they look awful. Only plants I've seen grow like this were Lowryders.
Hi ripOG, Yup, there was a mistake in the title of the thread, if you skip back a couple of pages, we discuss the correct naming. Yucateca is correct - feminine form, thanks for the tip, always happy to get tips from folks!
I was actually referring to the "El" part. It should be La Yucateca, not El Yucateca. The name of that hot sauce is El Yucateco, I believe, which is also acceptable.
I figured out what was wrong with the TW x Mexican seedlings, they had root rot caused by sitting in the runoff tray. I elevated them out of the tray by sitting them on upturned pots and repotted them into larger pots of fresh coco and let hem dry out before giving them some fish emulsion and Maxicrop, both females have recovered, I culled the male. One of the two females looks like it is definitely the Mexican pheno as the leaves look just like the Mexican mother. I have allowed this one to continue flowering and it's doing well, gonan be a small plant as it's growth has been stunted by the root rot incident, but at least it will give me some idea of how this cross has turned out. The other one is taking longer to produce lots of new growth and has been put back into veg to recover.
Here's some pics I snapped of my 'El Yucateca' Mexican sativa just before I chopped her tonight at 91 days - 13 weeks exactly. She has a delightful menthol smell and it took only a few mins to trim the entire plant - hardly any leaf.
I still cannot believe how lucky I was to find this pheno from bagseed, oh how upset I am that I didn't keep that male I had 2 years ago, I go and find an amazing IBL (the other two females were very similar) and get a pure male and a pure female and go and fucking kill the male!
Then again, the male was the only plant I got out of 25 seeds. It was 2 years before I tried germing the remaining 27 and got 3 females and 1 full-blown hermie.
Each of the main colas is huge, and there is hardly any leaf at all, I gave them a quick trim and now there is not one iota of leaf on the buds all all, just masses and masses of lime green calyxes with those distinctive rusty red hairs. On the tips of the buds the calyxes have purple mottling.
British_Hempire those are truly inspirational genetics.
Plants like your La Yucateca is why I have saved thousands of Mexican bag seeds over the years and am starting to hone my growing skills so I can preserve these genetics for future generations.
I believe La Yucateca is reward for your open mindedness my friend.
Hey Now, Wonderful pics, let me say British Hempire, Happy Easter to you and your family! Wish your grass was at the bottom of my Easter basket than this fake plastic shit they sell in America!
