Thanks Zen. $20 at home depot goes a long way.
Only issue I see is, you may see some excess wear on the cord being pulled back and forth.

Here's what I'm working on.

picture.php

A light will hang from the loop on each end. The bar with the pulleys will hang from the ceiling and bear the weight of the bulbs. The mover and track will be mounted to the ceiling (off center, so it doesn't hit the scrubber) and connected to the cable with the bolt provided.

Still waiting to test it. I'm sure there are a few things I haven't thought of.

yeah yours looks nice!

ideally I would use two bulbs but I'm only rockin one right now.

doing it your way takes the extra minute DIY but looks nice n clean, I like the swedge idea.

definitely going to incorporate the wire holding a vert bulb when I get my 2 bulb setup rockin.

lookin forward to how yours works for you!

I installed the yo-yo light mover last night and it is working great. I still have a few small things to tweak. The bulbs travel approximately 24-30 inches up and down, with a pause of about 7 secs at each end. I'm thinking about increasing the stop time.

I also had to move one of the bigger SD's to a spot with more headroom. Another nite of work in the room and everything should be A+.
Once everything is tight, I'll take a bunch of pics.

This is very interesting stuff Marlo! Nice build. I recall people saying you didn't really want to move your lamp more than a couple of inches with a light mover, b/c you can only stretch the light out so much before the plants start having to change position to catch it. I'm sure the same applies to a vertical rig. Can't wait to see some pics of this thing in action!

the sun goes from east to west every day and outdoor plants seem to do just fine.
Obviously you cant go 6 feet with one bulb, however 2 feet of travel with a single 1000w allows for intensity that makes nice nugs top and bottom, at least in my setup.

I think by having the vert bulb on a mover, if you have one bulb like me its extra advantageous to move it because the fan leafs tip towards the bulb and by moving it ~2 feet it gets above and below fan leafs to directly hit budsites/nodes with quality light that would have just hit the fan leaf if stationary.

With 2 bulbs moving up and down you also have less time spent hanging side by side and shining directly into each other which should help. Awesome setup for the space.

Light Rail 3.5 w/ DIY dual yo-yo vert add-on

Light Rail 3.5 w/ DIY dual yo-yo vert add-on

I shortened the travel distance down to about 24". I couldn't find my damn tape measure when I was in there, so I'm just guessing. I also increased the stop time to about :15. Working smoothly.

The room is currently on day 17 of 12/12.

Yo Yo Yo Doc Diesel is IN DAH HOWZE and getting all Yo-Yoey on us.....great practical use of an old idea, this is why I continually come here to share idea's and to GET some great idea's. I'm already wondering how we can (if?) incorporate a couple of light movers in our 3200 watt room? I do not know if I would benefit much from only about 12" of light travel?

I have to find MY measuring tape and do some calculations myself but it is worth looking into. I think I would benefit more by just wrapping everything in Reflectix atm, but time and money are still in short supply but I'm off to Home Depot today to look for some Reflectix.

Hey man, just wanted to say I loved your previous setup, and this looks even better. Very clever use of space.

So sweet!
I'd love to see some pictures of the ceiling, to see what and how you attached everything.
I can only imagine the boost you'll get from that light spread.

Marlo, because you have the orange webbing pretty close to the walls, do you have any concerns about stagnant air between the wall and webbing?
In your set up could you take pictures of how you access the room.
I'm trying to imagine how you work in there if the webbing is up on all 4 walls.
How did you separate, if at all, the webbing so as to gain entrance to the garden?
I'm thinking a DR80, (2.5x2.5) with the webbing circling along the walls. I just am not sure about the door.
Thank you for sharing in your creation.
It inspires me to think "outside the box".

The 4th wall is the door and has no netting on it. Very easy access. No stagnant air anywhere in the room. Good air flow and exchange is the key.

This idea would work great with a DR80. I used one for my 1st vert grow. Great experience, but this netting would have made things so much easier.

Thanks Gooz. Always looking for ways to improve. Keeps things interesting.

Thanks bro! I only thought of doin this a few days ago after seeing a diagram while lurking thru some vert threads. I figured if I show what I'm up to, someone else will catch the fever.

I really like the idea of the lightmover and it's made me wonder what kind of 'saturation' level a leaf might have (re:light)? Why not make every bud a 'right next to the light' bud with the mover?

I also notice that leaves closer to the lamp are a little dryer so it's possible that moving the lamp might balance this out some so that the same parts of the plant aren't always slightly dryer/warmer.

You can't compare 400w lamps to the sun. ;) If the lamp is spending half of it's time in another location, that's 1/2 the energy those leaves are converting. Robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Marlo- is that 24" total? so like 6" higher and lower than it's stationary position? I broke 1gpw using a flip/flop with my 600's strung horizontally in my homebox a few months back. I kept the lamps within 12" of each other. The light mover is going to help for sure.

When the one light is at the top, the other light is 24" lower. They stay there for 15 secs, and then switch positions. In the old setup, they both hung out around the top.

I will probably adjust the yo-yo depending on how the buds start to form. I'm happy with the top end on both sides. If it looks like I'm wasting light goind down this far, I'll shorten the distance. Time will tell. It's all in the name of science.
