Malawi Style Cob Curing.

H

and cobs burn nice with a milder smoke....I cob everything now. Cobs are compact and are easier to make, monitor and store than the standard hang dry/bottle cure. Maybe part of that is that I live on a similar latitude to Malawi and grow under the sun.

I now tend to cob up the ganja much more damper than I previously did and probably wetter than recommended.

As I now no longer fear mold happening and I find with very densely packed cobs this works best for the fermentation process...the end result looks closer to hash than bud is closer to black than dark brown/light brown usually pictured here on this thread.

I only dry for a few days for airy buds and a day or two more for denser buds. The cobs I make are sweated for two days, unwrapped and dried for half a day I test for for dampness with my teeth...then re-wrapped in baking/parchment paper and string, then wrapped very tightly in Cling or Saran wrap (so there's no need to vacuum seal) and leave them for a month, smoke test it then re-wrap it and smoke it when the older ones have gone up in smoke. There's lots of ways to skin a cat and that's how I do it and it works for me.

One thing is for sure, big thanks to Tangwena for showing the rest of the world how chamba is cobbed.
I am glad you like it I would never smoke green buds its to harsh on the throat.
The lighter cobs result in a more racy high than the darker cobs that produce deep lysergic trips for me depending on the type of weed used of course.
I have found 3 levels of cure that can produce 3 distinct type of highs from the same weed. There is no end to the personal twists you can introduce to the basic cure everyone will get differing results based on the moisture content of the buds going in temps of sweating and length of curing before drying.
Some people will be able to produce mind blowing results while others not so. Its just experience in growing, harvesting and then curing that make a good cob.
When you get all 3 in the same cob of the right strain there is nothing better IMO.
Yesterday I chewed 0.35g of 7 month old Golden Tiger and had the best energetic tripping high that lasted 8hrs and peaked at the 4 hr mark. Thats going up like a rocket for 4hrs and then leveling out for 4 hrs before fading as if I had had nothing to the best sleep ever.
The perfect high it had everything happening in it. Thats why I love this strain so much and it was a Malawi pheno not a Thai pheno. Electric like ecstacy and spacy like acid the best mix.

I don't have a scale for sub gram weights, how big is 0.35 grams? About a 0.5 mm cube size?

It depends on compaction and moisture content but this is what two 0.35g cubes of compacted slightly moist Gt cob looks like.
If you intend chewing the cob get a cheap digital scale $30 on ebay.
The difference in strength of 0.35 to 0.5g is quite large but the physical size difference is very small.
Dosage is very important to get consistent results.
Some of my cobs strains anything over 0.5g has me lying on the floor tripping out in my mind for 3 or 4 hours cool if thats what your after but not good if you have somewhere to go ha ha.

Redeye24/7 cobbed and fermented slabs of GG4 to get great effects.
He reported superior taste smoked and vastly different effects to jar cured. For example a lot more active rather than glued to the couch and more of a head high he said he loved eveything about it.
Smell, taste and effect.
He produced some masterful fermented buds and cobs and is a cobmaster in my opinion.
Not to everyones taste though as reported by Palmero above horses for courses for sure.

Hey Tang, thanks for explanation, that amount looks roughly enough for a joint that is about as thin as a chop stick with a cardboard filter, we used to call this type of joint a "racehorse".

I'll try it when I have a day off (but with a business, housework, garden and kids, I don't know when that day will be!)

Yeah thats about right a pin joint 3 or 4 drags and gone.
I miss being able to smoke a small joint but my lungs are so stuffed it would finish me off. But I often long for the taste from a good cob of piney sticky goodness ha ha.

You really have to try one of the new herb vaporizers out now. There's zero harshness or tar and the taste is good, definitely worth a try. ..it's like breathing the essence of the herb and is as mild as breathing air.

the downside to herb vapes is that they require lots of mucking around to set it up to get high - it takes 10 minutes to vape a bowl's worth of bud, they costs hundreds of $, the batteries go flat too fast when portable, the high is not as satisfying as burning but way cleaner and they break or stop working way too easy....but when I vape for a few days straight, my airways become free of phlegm ...

I'd vape some now, but both of my vapes are not working..one needs a large hard to get battery and the other has a broken glass piece so I smoke skinny joints.

My first cob

My first cob

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you and Tangwena especially for sharing such an awesome and unique method. This really adds a new dimension to the hobby and I'm looking forward to trying it out again.

Here's my first attempt at cobbing. It's about a zip of a really nice hybrid auto, Mephisto is the breeder and the strain is Sour Hound. I used fresh corn husks and sweated it for a day, wrapped loosely in a plastic bag on a germination tray mat for 24 hours. It got a nice sweat on. I then vacuum sealed it up and kept it in my closet. I did try and heat it up a little more by keeping the sealed cob by my computer exhaust for another couple days. Not sure if I over did it.This is it after a week in the bag and a couple days of hanging to dry out a bit. I plan on sealing up the rest in a vacuum bag and keeping a little to try now. The smell coming out of the bag was not sweet, but a little sour. No real weed smell to it at all. The jar cured buds are very smelly though.

Hi my friend it looks ok from the picture, the wrapper has cured nicely. I am a little worried you got no sweet smell on unwrapping it but that might be the strain.
The cobs vary a lot smell wise some smell a lot others not much depending on the strain.
Saying that it looks good. After aging for a month sealed up it should be good enough to test.
I haven't used the method you used for a while I now.I use the yogurt maker to sweat the buds its a little more consistant, but if the cob sweated in the bag it should still work ok.
Please let us know your impressions good or bad when its another 4 weeks older in the vacuum bag.

I have several vapes but they dont get me high enough also my lungs are really stuffed from smoking oil and pot in Africa I mean on their last legs so I dont smoke or vape anything.
All I have left is chewing the cobs thank god they get me high enough not to miss smoking or I would be very depressed ha ha.

I finally got around to trying this out, we dont have fresh corn atm so I went with the loose in the bag method. After two days of sweating I opened it up for drying before I seal it back up for 3 weeks. And the smell is not sweet for me either, it's a little more like salami on the smell or maybe like vinager.

Excited to see how this unfolds :)

Edited: it's been 1 hour 30 mins and I must say the smell grew on me, it's weird but I find it a little sweet in the scent. I'm pretty sure it is fermenting.

This is exactly the smell I got too! To me it was kind of like a salty sour smell, like the brine from pickles or pepperoncini.

Here's some pictures. The buds were dried for 4 days.

This is 48 hours after the sweat, took picture while it's drying before the 3 week seal.
